The best soundset to replace the NGX's soundset...Is the NGX soundset .

I think of it as, Yes I have this DC3, but what can I replace it with? Well, you should only replace a DC3 with another DC3, right!?

How the various levels are set have a large degree on how everything sounds.

I've tweaked mine a bit since I started running it. The engine volume maybe a bit

less than default, and I use a good bit of wind noise, which you really start to notice

once you've passed 10k and pitch down for 290-300 knots.. Ditto on the descent..

Gets louder as you descend and once to the IAS speed, pretty loud until you slow

down to descend below 10k.

I hear a pretty good spool up sound on takeoff, but not overbearing..

BTW, I use the 800 sound cfg on all models, including the 600 and 700..

What that does is give me slightly less fan whine.. If you sit in front of the engines,

you usually notice a lot more fan whine, vs sitting in the rear behind the engines,

you hear less whine, and more of the combustion roar.

Yep, that low pitch rumble on decel is a hoot... I've heard that exact sound on the

real planes.  :)

I just noticed this post ;-(  . in all the years i had of lurking/reading things in the FS world i always wonder how can someone that has never experience something in real life could be asking for something better in the FS world? I have a good chunk of hours on some of the 73's and till this day i can asure you (Framedrop) that  PMDG has done a great job ... but again if you dont like the sounds its ok too .... Im done .....

I guess the title says it all.

Sounds like a complete waste of money. Like installing a sprinkler system in the Amazon rainforest. You could do it, if you love spending money, but why?

Hmmm, well, at running the risk of someone saying that it must be me and my misunderstanding of setting things up in FSX, I am still no better off! In the Windows sound control panel, the Realtek control panel, FSX control panel all set as stereo using the allocated Realtek sound. So in essence, I guess I must be doing something wrong, what it is I have no idea, because I have wrestled with this issue since the release of the NGX.

You have a 2.1 setup as me right ? Front + sub.

Set Realtek to 5.1 but only setup front+sub and let realtek control bass management.

Then in Windows soundsetup via controlpanel you disable "surround sound" during the speaker configuration setup.

Hi Michael, thanks for the detailed reply, appreciated. Sure, I have 2 stereo speakers and 1 sub. I can't test at the moment, but I'll try it out later today and let you know how I get on, cheers.

If everyone follows Ryan's intro in the manuals about sound settings there won't be any issues.

This is extremely real in sound and of course remembering that FSX has certain limitations all round i think what they did for what they had to work with was perfect !

Why spend more money on another soundset when it is the real thing. well worth the money all round fo me ...

But of couse i can respect other people have there own opinions & tastes.

I think some users may not realise how the sound of a jet engine changes as thrust is increased. At the lower thrust levels of the 737NGX, you get the usual "whine" of a jet engine that everyone is probably familiar with. However, increase the thrust to 100%, and a completely different sound is audible. I suspect that this is a bit of a surprise to some users, and makes them question whether it is realistic or not. I have been to Manchester Airport in England (and Edinburgh Airport in Scotland) many times over the years, so those subtle differences in engine sounds quickly become apparent. That being the case, the distinctive sound of the engines of a 737NG at high thrust have been recreated perfectly here.

I love the sound set of the NGX, but what I'm looking for is an addon soundset that adds that squeaky clink and clank sounds you get on landing and take off and those bump noises you get while going over the centreline and stuff like that :P

What people need to do is buy a ticket somewhere on a 737-700/800/900 and book a seat forward of the emergency exit rows. Word of warning, I once booked seat 8A on Virgin Australia, there's a bulkhead seam right there and no window, so ... 6A might be better.

Airbus A320's with the CFM engines may suffice, although you get the silly Airbus "Barking Dog" PTU noise when the hydraulic demand left/right is high (ie when running one engine, and sometimes when deploying flaps/gear) that you don't get on the 737.

Forward of the wing is the key. Engines sound different from the front of the plane.
