Hm, I was planning on doing some flying today but I really don't feel like flying anymore without that C172R... I want it now! So instead of flying I enabled DX10 again and did a few tests to make FSX DX10 ready. And all that ONLY because of the VC shadows in the 172!!! I had some problems with DX10 but I mainly had those with my testflights which were a little er... not like regular flights (flying way too fast above London just to challenge the system). Obviously the 172 will be flying a LOT slower so the main problems I had with DX10 are solved by that (slower loading textures). I even lowered my precious autogen one notch (to Very dense) for some extra headroom. I do wonder now though how heavy the 172 will be on the system... I am sure it will cost me some fps but how much...? Anyway, I am also hitting F5 more and more... can't wait!

Same here.  I'm not a pilot IRL.  My life circumstances were such that I was never able to put a license together - when I had the time I had no money, and when I had the money I had no time.  Now I've got some other things (post-2008 finances, a medical thing that's minor but would get in the way of a PPL) getting in the way.  One of my pleasures in simming is to re-create the life I would have had if I had been able to get my license - which means flying the kind of airplanes I would likely have flown in real life.  The rental option on the 172 really appeals to me, since given the price of a late-model 172, it's unlikely I would have had one of those in the hangar, either.

Don't get me wrong - I like exotic stuff, too, and I find that flying life-threatening machines like warbirds and helos makes be a better sim pilot overall.  But simulating a close-alternative real life has its charm, too.

Exactly the same for me. Flight sim is the life I could have lived if circumstances would have allowed me to get a PPL. In that life, I would most likely have rented or possibly owned a beat-up old C172, Cherokee or similar. I would still not have been a millionaire, so a TBM 850 or even something like a SR22 would have been out of the question.

Like Alan, I do enjoy flying more exotic planes - jets, turboprops, even warbirds..but the sim feels the most immersive when I'm flying something a mere mortal could actually afford to fly in real life.

That's why the A2A C172 is so exciting. It expands my "virtual aviation life" so that I not only get to fly the plane, but actually care for and maintain it as well. It's like FSX meets Tamagotchi

Jeroen, given other A2A Accusim aircraft I have, I would think it will be very lite on FPS.

When your starting a Accusim engine it really is like starting a real engine. There Spitfire was worth the price to just to do nothing more than start the engines.

I think you will find this to be > ALL GA's

But for me the 777 is > ALL

Good news, thanks! I am getting more excited every minute. ^_^

(BTW I am still using the REX textures you suggested (if you can remember): it's still the best set by far! ^_^ )

Dave your young, priding one self on memory re call comes with age . After a certain age one tends to look backwards rather than forward.....or babble on without making sense like Im doing right now

.

Don't worry Zoran, I understood every word! :(

Why Americans?  Is that because most Americans are obese?

Watch it mate, you'll be making another apology!

In terms of systems sure... but it's still really slow.  I'll be getting it anyway.  I don't think it will be my favorite GA.  Just saying

Thanks mate, good to hear. I also still use the same set, not found one I like more.

Ryan It will be slow but RealAir is there for go faster. Really slow is the A2A cub, now that is Really slow.

Ya I bought the Cub with accusim a while back.  With accusim it's cool but I never fly it.  I could walk faster lol!

A2A planes are simply amazing! I own a few and they're so much realism put into them.  Must buy for me also!

You must be like me in the sense that I'm a bit of a flight sim collector.  I have to have certain planes just to have them, but they aren't flown much.  Of course I'm going to buy the C172, but if I'm being honest, I'm not completely excited about flying it.  Such is the nature of the flight simulation hobby, I suppose.  Madness! :P

I recently came across an old slide rule that I used for some physics and calculus classes back in college.  When I used them, I was a bona fide, certified expert on all uses of the slide rule (you had to be).  I pulled the slide rule out of its case, stared at it for a while, and realized I could not even solve a simple multiplication problem with it.  I'm not sure what this has to do with old school vs. new school, but it came to mind.

Sorry ... I was reading back on page 8 when I posted this.

Maybe you were reading my post (on page 8) about learning to do things in a more 'manual' way that conditions the brain to a higher level of ability.  So whether we use GPS or other aids, and of course we do, we are better off for having developed the spatial abilities required of an older school.  Slide rules are largely before my time, so I only speak theoretically.  By using the slide rule at one time in your life, even if you can't do it anymore, there is still some cognitive understanding of the process remaining that new students using their engineering calculators, will never have.  It put your head in the game and kept you in the loop.

If the (huge) pants fit ......  wear 'em.

Well I am super excited about flying the 172. I really really enjoy taking the Cub for a spin, but kept wishing that A2A would surprise us by announcing a Super Cub expansion for it. That would have been perfect imo. As good as the Cub is, I just can't bear to fly for long being so painfully slow. The 172 on the other hand have me already well on the way planning my first crossing of USA starting in Maine heading west. Combining FTX Global, UTX, FS Genesis and REX with the 172 has finally pushed me over into doing it. And I can't wait to get going. Undecided on including a GPS or not, but I'm tempted to skip it and do it the hard way. :)
