Yes this is becoming very annoying, Considering Avsim host many of the best payware forums, and it takes ages to load pages that is if it dosnt time out first,

every morning sometime beetween 9am/10.30am utc this site is down.

If its only happening to a few of us i can understand,Please Avsim have ago at fixing this,.

No need to do tracert as 503 is being generated by the server. I'm hoping Tom understands this by now.

Avsim seem unwilling to resolve, acknowledge or communicate with us with this problem.

Dave, I suggest you PM Chase or someone. From your writing so far, I guess you have some experience with online database/webserver operations. I would have offered, but this is not my forte, I am more of a hardware chap...

I saw this the day it began, pretty much... been using the pingdom tools site for a time as well.. I am not sure if the powers that be here knew the tool already, but I sent them pingdom reports some time ago, when things really started to slow down...

Perhaps it is a combination of a bloated bulletin board software with some server-side maintenance or database backup facility that is limiting the webserver's ability to process the requests. The downtime is coinciding with the morning in Europe, the time during which many, like myself, visit the page for updates on news and so on... so a largish number of requests... though a well-configured server on recent hardware with a decent connection should easily be able to deal with the loads this community generates.

When you start paying AVSIM's bills, then you can complain all you want about this being annoying, until then don't look a gift horse in the mouth! If it's a technical problem, I'm sure AVSIM will fix it in time, if it's intended this way for nightly maintenance then we'll just have to live with it.

Thanks

Tom

Your comment would make sense if there were no adverts on here, but there is plus some other revenue streams, so we are the customers and thus have a right to grumble :)

Ever since I can remember joining this forum, it's been down every night (presumably for nightly maintenance) for about 1 hour. It used to be between 2-3AM Eastern, but recently within the past year or two, it's been 4-5am. So I don't understand, why this is suddenly an issue now?

Thanks

Tom

That could explain why I've not noticed it before but here in the UK that makes it now 9-10 AM which is normally when I first check Avism.

Of course,  if you go back in this post you'll see Tom thinking its network and dns issues, not maintenance, so I'm guessing its not expected behaviour.

What's to maintain?

We have no processes that run that time of day. Further, I have stayed up multiple nights and tried to determine what it is you are seeing. The system does not shut down at the times you in the UK are seeing and works fine for us. The system is online and healthy during the periods you are reporting. I have looked at our logs, Google performance data, etc. There is NO downtime at that time of day.

I suggest one more time that you look at the DNS systems along the way from your location to AVSIM's. Contrary to what Dave believes, we have seen DNS issues in the UK and in Europe effecting folk's access here. You could have access issues to AVSIM and not to other U.S. sites, because of DNS fumbling.

I am closing this thread. We have exhausted every possibility in an attempt to prove to ourselves that AVSIM is behaving this way, and continued questioning of our competence and desire to resolve "issues" is going to result in people being shown the door.

If you are having issues in your location during certain periods of the day, then I suggest you either track down the issues in the pipeline or change your schedule for accessing AVSIM. There is not much more we can do about it.

No you don't. And the next time I hear such presumptuous and arrogant BS from you and you are gone.
