September 17, 201312 yr Author This sounds like something is overheating. What is happeing to the FPS during this time? Do they drop significantly? Have you overclocked either the CPU and/or GPU? If so, get rid of the overclock for a start. What happens if you quit FSX and immediately restart it? Is it slow? How long in terms of *time* is it before you notice the slowdown, and is it fairly consistent? What happens if you fly in a part of the FSX world that has NO add-on scenery (or even better, you disable all your add-on scenery)? Best regards, Robin. My CPU is O/C'd, but my graphics card is not (never thought it would be necessary for FSX). If I fly a long flight in the NGX, I have no issues. I typically only load sceneries for the departure and arrival airports. I use photoscenery a lot, and I have FTXG. When things start getting "buggy" the FPS do take a big hit. But this only happens on the T7. I replaced my FSUIPC version 4.90 with the newer version 4.92. I am currently on a flight from MMMX to LHBP. I'm two hours in and I can already tell a big difference. Everything is smooth as silk, as it should be. Maybe I've solved my problem. I'll report later. Thanks for your input. Dennis Trawick Screen Shot Forum Rules

September 17, 201312 yr Author Dennis Also another trick when checking your card for a re-seat is to rub the gold contacts with an eraser to buff them up from atmospheric oxidisation. That's a great tip, Rick. But I'm hoping I won't have to tear into my computer to get to the graphics card (although it's really not that big a deal, as you know). #fingerscrossed Dennis Trawick Screen Shot Forum Rules
September 17, 201312 yr Commercial Member It's extremely unlikely that cleaning the edge connector will do anything for your performance problem. If you had bad contacts you'd be seeing much worse than poor frame rate - the driver will attempt resets of the hardware (this will be obvious), assuming the system doesn't freeze first. Best regards, Robin.

Best regards, Robin. It was nothing to do with improving performance. It was a basic maintenance tip if Dennis was going to remove his card to be re-seated. Nowhere did I imply that it'd improve performance or resolve his issues. Rick Almeida
September 17, 201312 yr Dennis, If it's any comfort to you I think my graphics card has always been at the minimum specification level since I started using PC games. Achieving recommended levels of spec was something I only ever dreamed of back then, and have no desire to spend my cash on now. My 1GB ATI card has no difficulty at all with the 777X. In fact on my system (running on Win XP-32) a 512MB card might even be better as I'd be able to use the 3GB switch and get more VAS. With my 1GB card the drivers won't even load if I use that switch and even if they did it would leave hardly any space for windows to run.
September 17, 201312 yr Back when ACES was still open, some head developer had a development blog (P. Taylor was he?). He would tell the comunity all about the progress they were making with SP1 and DX10 preview and all of that. Those days, Flight Simulatior was still an alive project that continued getting better. On one of his posts, he explained how little FSX cares about the graphics card you use. Probably, between your card and a GTX Titan, there's only a 4 or 5 FPS difference on an identical system. I still use my GTX580. 2 weeks ago I upgraded my CPU from an i7 950 (first generation i7) to a 4770K, which I overclocked to 4.2 but then decided to keep it at stock for now. Just that CPU upgrade gave me some 25 extra FPS (along with maxed out ram and a speedy Samsung 840Pro SSD).If FSX was a properly programmed piece of software, with today's modern use of DX and CPU instructions, then it would make all the sense in the world to consider a GPU as a definitive factor in the software's performance. Since FSX relies purely on CPU brute force I'd say, look into optimizing your current build and invest in anything but a new GPU (unless you also use other applications with proper code).I would give it another year and keep my money in my pocket at least until Broadwell comes out. September 18, 201312 yr Commercial Member Ryan, that is great news. I kept hearing how the 777 was getting better performance than the NGX, and I was perplexed. I'm going to investigate the actual card seating as Julian suggested. I was also re-reading the intro. and I noticed I did not have the very latest FSUIPC (4.90 vs 4.92), so I'll check that out today as well. I'm feeling much better about not shelling out $1000 for a Titan, because that's the way I roll whenever I upgrade. (except for automobiles:) I personally think a Titan is insane overkill unless you play other games like Battlefield at ultra high resolutions or in surround. I'm building a new machine myself shortly and I think it's only going to have a 770 probably. Maybe a 780 depending on whether I think I can swing it, but probably not - it's almost double the price and certainly nowhere close to double the performance of the 770. Well, I can safely say that there is not going to be an issue about choice between the Titan or 770/780. As mentioned in the introduction on page 27-28 upgrading to the latest version of FSUIPC seems to have done the trick. Put the T7 through its paces and everything is now A-OK!! Smooth, responsive, crisp graphics, 30fps locked. I love it. The 560ti stays. I'm just going to have to get comfortable with the approaches as apparently the T7 is not quite as automatic as the NGX in that respect. AVSIM is the QRH of flight simulation. Isn't it great how one small section in the introduction can make such a huge difference in the sim. RTFM!! Thanks everyone for the input. Dennis Trawick Screen Shot Forum Rules
