September 25, 201312 yr I have suggestion, those who want to ask questions who know they are going to get blasted just don't ask. Find you a friend on here with some knowledge of what's going on and PM them that's how to avoid being "targeted" by the bullies on here. I have some issues and some questions, but I don't ask because this place is not very friendly at all when you have those questions. I want to introduce my son and my nephews the FS community but the communtiy is not ready for the young types because of some of the people on here are just down right "MEAN"! If I'm not mistaken 90% of the forum members are grown men and to have one of them come down on a kid for asking a question, well that would be devasting. We are trying to grow the FS community not run people away from it. The purpose of the forum is to be helpful not hurtful, and I feel the PMDG forum has moved away from that! It's now a place if you ask a question and some of the guys don't like it you get flamed. SMDH,we are supposed to be better than that. What you say is true but the opposite is also true. Try posting a question on a popular console game forum populated by young people and see what kind of answers you get. Mike Keigley
September 25, 201312 yr Of course the best answer here is to combine things....Firstly as you say, people need to use search and read better before posting. However what would really help is that when someone posts something, that might be frustrating to many and may have been answered before, people simply ignore it, no answer to the post will hopefully naturally encourage the user to then search. The big issue is, is that because "those Characters" that then decide to jump down the throat of the poster and all out war occurs, it actually results in making the search facility useless, because when I search for something i get thrown up pages and pages of bickering that i then have to read through to see if the answer was in that particular post. Try doing a search for release date - or patch. So the annoying same posts might be frustrating, but actually its the annoying 6 page threads of rubbish(sign your name, RTFM, I know more than you etc posts) that have to be read through before potentially finding the answer you searched for. Its especially annoying when a good proportion of the time, the flamers actually don't have the level of knowledge to answer in the first place - theres an excellent thread somewhere on here where a whole bunch of people were flaming someone - the laugh of it was he was the commercial pilot and they were just a bunch of FSimmers telling him he was wrong. Whats mad now is that I have done exactly what Im preaching, and turned a thread about SP which actually may eventually contain an answer into something people will need to read past to get the answer! Excellent comments. I actually feel that we are on Page 2 because this is a very important subject, more important than anything to do with FS technicalities or issues. We are talking about us as members of a great community and the way in which we behave. Its not about PMDG and release dates at all. If any one sees a question/subject/thread that annoys them, irritates them or aggravates them in some way, then please just ignore it and move on to another subject that interests you. Please don't post a superior or sarcastic response that will inevitably belittle or perhaps humiliate a new young member who is "finding his way in our world". In recent months I have observed some threads that are bordering on hostile and inflated egos that are simply extraordinary! We all share the same fascination, passion and addiction to a piece of computer software. Yes we are all different and yes we all hold varying opinions and that is great because it should generate good healthy debate. Everyone has a valid point to make and everyone's opinion should be respected (if expressed in an appropriate way) so let's be civil to each other and leave our egos at the door. If a question is asked too often and it frustrates you, then don't worry about it, forget it, move on. Don't place a post saying "Think and search before you post"! How does a young lad or girl feel when confronted by that? Rather intimidated I would say. Lets all be nice. JON GREEN

September 25, 201312 yr I'm guessing it's easier to not release a date because more issues can crop up, the easiest way to deal with issues is to make a list and fix them one by one. Software is tempermental and by trying to fix one thing could easily break others, a service pack would no doubt have to be tested either way so I don't think we'll see anything for a while until everything off the list is ticked off. http://forum.avsim.net/topic/418750-pmdg-777-issue-tracking-thread/ Once everything on that list is fixed then you can expect an update. How does a young lad or girl feel when confronted by that? Rather intimidated I would say. Lets all be nice. But there is more to it than that. If someone new is joining this forum I'd be willing to bet they know how to type words into a search bar and select the 'Search' button. If they are new to this community, and therefore most likely asking basic questions about the hobby, aircraft, scenery, etc, than there is a high probability that their question has been answered before; simply based on how long this community has been around (and it doesn't take a genius to figure that out). So then the question becomes: at what point do you encourage people to go and find the answers on their own? As of now, by answering these questions that are asked multiple times a day and not forcing people to go out and find answers on their own, we are rewarding people for their laziness. In an ideal world people would only post threads for questions they can't find the answer to. However, as a result of the internet being anonymous, there is no harm or foul in putting out no effort to find the answer and clogging up message boards in hopes that someone will come along and do all your work for you. It's the same reason why you see floods of bullies and jerks on message boards - there is no punishment or personal consequence because everything is anonymous and hidden behind a persona. Just think: if someone came along to post a question that had been answered many times before, and as such the other posters didn't reply at all to that thread because that question had indeed been answered before and the poster was just too lazy to use the Search function, then what is the poster of said question left to do? They'll be forced to go out and find the answer on their own. Most likely, in fact, learning much more about the topic they are researching than they had if someone had just come along and posted a small sentence response to answer the question. It reminds me of a joke from comedian Louis CK. It goes something like: "Making fun of people is good. It triggers discussion in their brain. It forces them to think."
September 25, 201312 yr So then the question becomes: at what point do you encourage people to go and find the answers on their own? Hello Greg I really do understand what you are saying and thank you for your input. I simply ask that we "re-direct" people in an appropriate manner and do not confront them with arrogant or slightly intimidating responses. If they become repeat offenders and display the laziness you describe, then yes lets ignore them and force them to conduct their own research elsewhere. The other day I saw an angry member referring to "some pimply kid who thinks he knows better than a pilot". The kid and the pilot were both wrong and I just think that tempering our tone might help to reduce the forum battles that seem to crop up so frequently. These forums are mainly inhabited by some superbly helpful and generous people and I am forever grateful to them. JON GREEN JON GREEN
September 25, 201312 yr I've been around Avsim for a while so I kinda know where to go to find things now but honestly that is not the case if you are new here. Most search results come up with stuff you aren't looking for and if your a person who isn't good at searching Keywords that will probably just complicate efforts more. Someone earlier mentioned combining FAQ's into one topic so people who are new to the forum and don't know how to search can find things. I think that would be a honestly be something that should be looked into otherwise people will just continue to post new topics especially the younger crowd. Paul Smith

September 26, 201312 yr Ya' know...That coffee pot is STILL empty gentlemen...Somebody mind getting on that? Am I supposed to put my overly priced and powered computer specs here? Sorry, I must have no tolerance for idiots who do that. So when's the PMDG 777x gonna' be released? Sorry you got your hopes up..But hey..Look on the bright side...It's not for FSX.. -Sincerely, Shawn O.
September 27, 201312 yr Ya' know...That coffee pot is STILL empty gentlemen...Somebody mind getting on that? Whilst you are waiting for your coffee, take a read through a current post/thread entitled "Airbus X Extended 1.15 Released" to see a perfect example of what I am talking about. Dear oh dear. It reminds me of a joke from comedian Louis CK. It goes something like: "Making fun of people is good. It triggers discussion in their brain. It forces them to think." I was at some point the perfect Newbe then in your world :-)I started out on another Forum. (not AVSIM) The first thing I did is read posts. After a while I was confident enough to ask questions that I felt were not totally stupid. But soon I found out that anything I asked had been discussed before. So, I went back to read old post. I think I went back and started to read from the year 2009. At that point I had to read through about 40 pages of threads! Not 40 post, no 40 pages with threads each several pages long !!! A mammoth task! It took me about a whole year to read it all, and write notes down. Now I did this for me, cause I liked it and I learned a lot. But it is hardly somehting you can expect everybody to do. Also by the time I was done, I found out that many things I had taken notes on were now obsolete due to fixes and updates and Service Packs and newer hardware, etc. So in my opinion it is fine for somebody to ask anything they want. I answere to the subjects I find interesting and so should you. You have no obligation to answere anyone. And if you know the question has been answered already then just provide a link. About the search bar. Ha, what a yoke that thing is. Try it, type in "PMDG 777 frame rate" and search. Result....no results found...pfffff No try google and search for the exact same thing. Result: on the second line "What FPS do you get? AVSIM" A yoke the AVSIM search function, I have never found anything I looked for with that! PS, I also think the FAQ idea is a great idea. Except.....who does the updating? Rob Robson

There is this saying...."if you have nothing nice (or contributing) to say, then just say nothing at all"! So you would rather me carry on like every other child that argues? You're starting an argument that I will not continue, but I will say this: I do not engage in repetitive posts...I thought this topic needed some humor, so I found something funny to say, and I typed it....I try to help out anywhere I can, maybe you should check my profile and see what and where I've posted before you make claims as you did. Anywho, carry on. Am I supposed to put my overly priced and powered computer specs here? Sorry, I must have no tolerance for idiots who do that. So when's the PMDG 777x gonna' be released?
