Is it possible yet to add third party objects/scenery?

...I just hope somebody has in the works a mod that would populate airports with parked planes and choppers. That would help cheering up those places quite a bit, in my opinion. Sometimes when I land it just feels like virus apocalypse happened. It's a bit sad.

That's the thing that eventually had me looking at other sims: the lack of life in the world. It is a beautifully rendered world, Hawaii still the best in any sim imho, but with absolutely no movement (apart from the windmills) the immersion that the scenery so brilliantly induces is easily broken.

For the time being XP10 is almost satisfying my immersion needs; the lighting and cockpit shadows are a work of art even if the ground shadows are not so, and better meshes and OSM imports are improving the world all the time. Not to mention the best night-flying of any sim.

Even if importing scenery were to be made to work, is it really likely developers could be persuaded to offer new content for a platform that can't even be bought anymore? For me Flight will always be the Syd Barrett of flightsims. Talented, beautiful, full of potential, but just couldn't hold it together. Shine on you crazy diamond.

I was thinking more like talented fans that could convert basic models and populate the airports with parked planes. just to compensate for the lack of life (including other players), and, in many airports, the lack of detail.

By the way, I also tried Prepar3d and X-plane 10. Couldn't get them to run as smooth as Flight is on the highest detail available on my installation though. and they still don't look as good. They do have air traffic, ground traffic etc, but they just don't work for me.

I agree it would be nice to have more moving objects in Flight, but don't forget there are moving trees which creates great athmosphere, and very often ignored smokes at buildings in winter time  :P

I'm struggling sooooooo hard not to be like the annoying person in the back seat going "Are we there yet! Are we there yet?!!"

I'm glad there is still interest.  I've been renovating a chunk of my house, so my office has been packed away for weeks.  I'm not expecting any updates until around the new year.

I was actually flying in flight with a group of people last night, and this was one of the main topics of discussion..... (Teamspeak)   B)

I've stopped playing Flight for a while now. It just seems too... repetitive for me now. I haven't given up hope yet though! Any progress is nice!

I am here every day. Might be five minutes or 5 hours, never know. Still looking forward to anything you can do for us. Take your time, we will be here. If we can import other aircraft into Flight at some point, I think there will be a big insergence of activity around here,

Steve

My flight time is down as well, but its a problem that's common to all civilian sims. Essentially you go up, you travel, you come down. Eventually the repetition of it can cause a bit of boredom, and that's where the third parties come in, offering an endless smorgasbord of, money-soaking attractions to stave off the ever-encroaching tedium.

The problem is that there are no Flight third parties to do that for us, and until there are (if ever) flight will be in far greater danger of being utterly forgotten than any other sim, even with as much raw potential as it has....

I agree with Steve, and it was agreed in my discussion last night that many people would likely flood back, at least for a while if new planes were on offer, especially if there was the possibility of other good things happening, for instance people would love to remove those trees at the end of many runways and spruce up some of the numerous lonely Alaska landing strips...........

One person who has repaints available privately says that to his surprise, his site is getting large streams of traffic even now, presumably people snatching up his repaints......

I think there is interest.

I have been involved in business software development for most of my career.  My clients are often surprised when I tell them their project could take several months to complete. However, if I can give them some "early deliverables" by picking some easy pieces of the project, it helps.  I don't know if that concept applies in this case, but I thought I'd throw it out there anyway.

Yes, given that I don't have as much time lately (and also partly because there is no longer an issue of piracy), I've been planning on releasing more of the underlying functionality in the tools for others to use.  For instance, I had logic in the tools to prevent people from just zipping up their own content, or even the official DLC and making it available as an addon.  I plan on removing that.  People that want to make other types of addons such as missions or weather, etc might also be able to do those now.  I also plan to expose the SimProp conversion stuff in a command line tool so people can convert the binary documents to xml and vice-versa (similar to spc or simpropcompiler).  The scenery and aircraft conversion stuff is still much further down the pipe, but maybe having more tools available will help make progress in areas I don't have time to focus on.

I think there are probably people out there that could expand on your work, but many likely come from the FSX camp were disdain at any mention of Flight is the soup of the day. (Sometimes its like one of those kids shows where you can't say a certain word or slime will fall from the air and cover you with disgusting glop)

If enough of those people decide to participate, then a lot of possibilities are brought to the table. If not.............

Then a really nice engine might go to waste.

Which would be such a shame.
