October 11, 201312 yr Hey, I just bought my copy like an hour or so before this post. I installed some textures via Rex Essentials (with all SPs), and in water selection - I did click on DX10 optimization with textures set to 1024. Now, when I am in the FSX, I do not see the wave animations at all. I know the texture is installed. I see the animation in DX9 (Using the Sparkling Rex Wave Animation). I have tried rebuilding the ShaderCache...but no luck. Any ideas or thoughts on this? Thanks, Skywolf How I Evaluate Third Party Sim Addon Developers Refined P3Dv5.0 HF2 Settings Part1 (has MaddogX) and older thread Part 2 (has PMDG 747)
October 11, 201312 yr From my experience, the only REX water animation that shows what FSX DX10 preview is capable of is "Use This!" in its 32 bit version. This animation looks great with its white caps but a takes noticable toll on performance. The REX guys will be quick to tell you "use DXT1 water" but IMO don't bother for it looks rather poor in comparison, and it looses the white caps as well. For DX10 I've abandoned using REX water animation for the stock FSX DX10 preview water animation is excellent and is not a performance hit, though I still use all the other textures that REX provides. October 13, 201312 yr Also, mind you can use FSWC LITE's bonus dx10 shader... makes dx10 water look really nice from what I've seen: http://www.strikingsoftware.com/fswc.shtml A little gem that's out there and didn't catch everyone's eye. Unfortunately they couldn't finish FSWC+ for controlling DX10 water shader through gui. However, it is possible to manually edit their bonus shader if you are a 'know-how'.

Restore the backup you've made with REX of the original files (the option is on the Configuration Manager tab). 2. Untick the Wave animation (or Water animation: I still wonder why they use two terms for this) on the Option tab so it won't be installed at all anymore. 3. Reinstall your REX textures but now without the water animation.
October 21, 201312 yr Thanks for this. I tried it and although there were backup textures in the backup folder, I'm not sure they were the original FSX. I have installed REX a few times and I think when I did the backup, I already had REX textures loaded. Can someone provide the names and dates of the original files for water animation and I can see if I have them? If not, what is the best way to get them back. Are they on the original discs in a format that they could just be copied? Thanks, I also have water animation that is "stuck" and doesn't look to be working in DX10. Otherwise, DX10 seems to b working real well with Steve's Fixer. -Don Don Polidori
