October 16, 201312 yr With the new rendering engine and opportunities that come with it, do you think 3PDs will develop (or would you ever want) rain on windows while flying like these other sims below produce? I think it would add to the immersion especially when tracking the glide slope with limited visibility. Train Simulator Euro Truck
October 16, 201312 yr Rain is an effect and a function of the addon. The ability to do so is there in the sim FSX or P3D. FSX/ESP limited the number of effects that can be used and most developers use them for essential effects. Ie wingflex.
October 16, 201312 yr I think They have said that rain and snow effects were unchanged for V2 but that they would build it into post V2 updates
October 16, 201312 yr The door is wide open for possibilities now that the foundation. Is revamped. A lot of answers coming from their Dev team have been if it doesn't make it V2.0 then it will make it in V2.1/2 etc. In other words sounds like they have a long list of improvements and are excited to implement them but it all can't be done on initial release. October 16, 201312 yr I would rather the addon developer took care of rain and ice effects as they could make it more realistic for the aircraft we fly instead of some generic rain effect that would be the same regardless of what we fly. -Paul-
October 16, 201312 yr Commercial Member gandy, the type of rain effect that is being used in the videos above are not generic at all, but rather a detailed effect that reacts to the surface it is placed on. Ed Wilson Mindstar AviationMy Playland - I69
October 16, 201312 yr Moderator In the case of ETS2 it is all accomplished with custom shaders. It's fascinating to watch what happens to the 'rain drops' if one doesn't turn on the wipers. They will gradually dry out over time, rather than simply disappearing instantly once the rain stops. B) Fr. October 16, 201312 yr yeah it does look nice in ETS2, nicer than train sim for sure as that uses a static rain drop that is not effect by gravity or the speed of the train, i own train sim with a few addons and the rain is generic across all trains, this is why i feel custom rain effects would be better. But i guess its up to the customer to ask the dev's to add the features to improve immersion. an example, If all the owners of the NGX or T7 asked for VC rain effects i feel pmdg would add them as its something that can be done and would improve the addon in fsx unlike a weather radar which is limited in function and the rain effects would not suck away the fps like a weather radar. -Paul-
October 16, 201312 yr I remember Flight Unlimited 2 and 3 had rain effects like the ones shown above, about fifteen years ago. It's always been one of my most wished for things in MSFS. I would load up FU2/3, set the weather to heavy rain and thunder, and just sit there with the engine shutdown listening to the rain hit the cabin, the distant rumbles of thunder, and watch the rain streaking down the windscreen. In many ways the FU series was way ahead of its time. Nick
October 16, 201312 yr In many ways the FU series was way ahead of its time. Another way to put it would be the current addon developers are behind the times, more than 15 years  -Paul-

Given that Carenado is known for their visuals, rain effects would be right up their alley.
October 16, 201312 yr In Train Simulator the model developers have also started applying the rain effect not only to the inside, but also the outside on the Windshield and light covers. Class 90 was the first to introduce this publicly and the GP20 followed soon after. October 16, 201312 yr xplane 10 also has good rain effects and icing effects on windows I'm not an XP10 fan or user, but one has to give credit to this I agree
October 16, 201312 yr xplane 10 also has good rain effects and icing effects on windows I never know that about XP10 because I always fly in clear weather. I will have to check this out later. Is this a feature of XP10 or the addon developer? Meaning, will I see it regardless of my payware aircraft, like the BK-117?
