October 29, 201312 yr I think, at some time in the past, glass cockpits might have been considered cheating. Sim terms. Now that ND, even on the Q400, gives some vital clues about where you are and how you are oriented in regard to e.g. navaids or terrain features. The steam gauge pilots don't have that. So you may already be.. True on the remarks about grey matter. But I think the runway incursion incidents or the fact that airlines are retrofitting systems like RAAS tell a story about how one can (quite easily) overload that mass. Even when it comes in pairs and got trained for just that job. And if I look at a, now, older G1000 rendition with the Jeppesen charts showing up and your aircraft symbol right on top or that safe taxi feature, I don't think that the folks implementing those features and the other ones paying for them had cheating in mind. Just reacting to that notion to call the implementation of modern systems or any kind of help on situational awareness cheating. If you have systems allowing for instant information and an intuitive readout instead of grey matter computing under stress with a vague outcome, you are free to pick what suits you best. If you actually have that choice. Side note. A traffic increase of over 80% in just ten years and an air safety level not dropping, but even improving, doesn't necessarily tell a story about better grey matter. Evolution doesn't work that fast. ^_^ As for the sim usage. The same tools allowing for the extra notch of overview also allow for disabling any moving map feature. And I wouldn't want to downplay the effect of being able to see where you really are, after you've tried to guess it by the needles. I agree that, if you would train yourself to only fly a moving map, you might miss some things. Still, sim freedom FTW. Besides, the idea of having a sim EFB might just try to resemble the changes taking place in the real-world cockpits. CoolIP, not a problem Pierre is a friend and we're in the same team about PFPX ... Ah, didn't know that. So thumbs up to you number crunchers and thanks for your work.
October 29, 201312 yr You could argue that PFPX is more 'realistic', in that commercial pilots on the whole don't concern themselves with flight planning. At the start of the day they simply log into their company briefing portal and download all the PLOGs for the sectors they will do that day. They are, by and large, indistinguishable from the ones pumped out by PFPX and the fact that you can pretty much knock one up in less than a minute with a random payload is as close as you're going to get to the real thing. EFB is a great tool but is cheating a little if you're flying something that doesn't have a moving map EFB. A Q400 pilot, for example will have some charts and the grey matter between his ears to figure out where he is on the airfield and in the air and I personally like that kind of challenge. If you don't want all the hassle of charts and the like however EFB is a nice all in one solution to give you pretty much everything you need. they re really concern about flightplanning ... guess, what in part of their training for every machine they have to be qualified there is the flightplanning part as of course for the APTL ... when I was a flightdispatcher (those old days lol) with a briefing with the technical crew (pilots and engineer) and I can tell you they were listening and asking questions maybe there is some ops and pilots that don't give a dam but I guess there is still that are interested ... at least one because the sole author of PFPX is himself a pilot under a 320 ... what PFPX is about is the quality of the profiles made and as there is more and more hardcore simmers that don't have access to FPPM or other perfs manuals it s really helping a lot ... and the user friendly way ot use and operate it. it s a tool like it or not but a very good tool I wished I had when I was dispatching for real ... all the best. November 14, 201312 yr I just purchased pfpx and so far I'm enjoying it. I have'nt been able to export a route to the PMDG 777. Any ideas? Ron Ron Service .
November 14, 201312 yr I just purchased pfpx and so far I'm enjoying it. I have'nt been able to export a route to the PMDG 777. Any ideas? Ron Are you able to import plans to 737ngx (if you have it). I had this same issue and its just a matter of putting stuff in the right folder. I think I put all the flightplans into pmdg/flightplans. The 737ngx and 777 flight plans are saved in the same format. If your trying to export wind data as well make sure your file name does not include any numbers. I just received a pfpx update, so I am not sure what changes they may have made.
November 14, 201312 yr Well if someone hasn't already mentioned it you might want to make your mind up if you need it because its on sale right now. Check the Bargain Shack. I just got it for $38.50
November 14, 201312 yr Thanks Red 29, I found this by myself by experimenting , I think the folder designation is not intuitive, as I don't have the PMDG 737NGX, however. it works and I continue to learn this planner. Ron Ron Service .

Ron It has a lot more features than you realize. Kyle Rodgers recently did a couple of youtube videos on it and I highly recommend them for when you want to get deeper into it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BSX5FZ5fNMM&list=UUkW4jYLfruaR5oQF61-DgKA http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hgBv2dUry48&feature=c4-overview&list=UUkW4jYLfruaR5oQF61-DgKA
January 9, 201412 yr Having had PFPX for 2 weeks all I can say, it's worth every penny(dollar) I don't do long haul flights a normal range in the 777 for me is KLAX-KSFO/KPHX-LAS. I also use flight aware so I can see just what flight routes are being used at the current time. After watching frooglesim on PFPX I down loaded a app that instead of printing all the info, saves it as a PDF and then I send the PDF to my iPad. You export the flight when done to fsx and the aircraft your using in my case the 777 it even sends the WX to PMDG folder. When you in the aircraft your flight plan is ready for you to request and so is your WX. You really do feel you are doing things by the book. PFPX is a stunning product and I would not want to fly the 777 without it. PS:Kyle Rodgers vid's are great also. David Murden.
