Is it feasible to incorporate the scimitar winglets in a future NGX update?

Featured Replies

I'd be fine with a visual-only model with the 'flying' the same as the normal winglets. Lots of time though, not many airlines with them yet.

I was on a flight on an A320 the other day and one of those A320's with the 737-800WL style winglets pulled up and got me wondering how long it will be before I see a 737 with a scimitar in real life.

It would be cool to have it as a visual update only.

Sunwing is now the second airline to have them in service. One new delivery, one retrofit.

I have read an interesting summary by a pilot friend who flew it just recently. Nice read. I am hoping it will eventually find a way onto NGX or a successor product.

WX import? What does that mean? I thought that PMDG would not incorporate WX radar into their packages as "it is impossible to implement them accurately?"

Darren

I'm sure the WX import will be added with SP2.

For the winglets, I think that UA is just an operational testbed for them at the moment. I don't see PMDG going through all the trouble to update the FDE, visual model, etc. unless it becomes a standard feature on the NG's. Even then, it'll probably take a while for Boeing to gather enough data to be able to provide to outsiders (i.e. - PMDG).

If PMDG ever released the 737MAX, then they would probably be included. But because it hasn't really even flown yet and there's definitely a lack of data (except for on paper, which will most likely change in the real world application), I don't think PMDG would have the necessary resources/knowledge for quite some time.

As a purely visual update like the 747-8i........that may come at some point. But ATM I don't imagine them considering it as they're already shoulders deep in other projects.

But I really have no idea. It would be a nice additional feature. Absolutely. We can always hope.

I think he is talking about the Wind REquest part, that populates wind information on the webpage from a weather file. But nothig to do with the Weather Radar at all, only winds data for various waypoints.

Well look at that.  I had no idea a Canadian carrier was doing this.

The other one they have is C-GOWG. Maybe more now.

Basically what the 777 already does with ActiveSky and PFPX.

Oh thank you for that clarification. Was thinkning that PMDG was going to do something against their principles of implementing something that cannot be implemented 100% realistic in flight sim.

Would love them even as a visual-only aswell, been flying on tuifly nordics 738 a few times with scimitar winglets now and would be nice to see them in fsx aswell.

Id like to see just a visual update also. Ive been seeing them quite a bit around Toronto, with Sunwing and Westjet flying them now. Would love to see them on the NGX.

I'm a bit late to the party, but I'd second that too. Would love even a cosmetic update for the new winglets. It seems that almost half of the NGs I'm seeing around Vancouver now have them, be it United, Sunwing, Alaska or WestJet. Hopefully this is something we might be able to see in SP2.

To answer the question - we have no plans to implement scimitar winglets. It would basically require adding a third version of every variant of the airplane (non-WL, WL, Scimitar). I can ask if we can do it as a visual thing in SP2, but the chance of writing new performance models for it are basically zero - would be a ton of work for very little benefit given that this is a free update.

Perhaps a second expansion to the base package is possible?
