Do they still operate to St Maarten? I would like to book a flight out there fairly soon.

That's a shame! Btw has anyone actually been there? Wanted to go with my girlfriend and her daughter for a few days, is there a lot of stuff to do apart from get jet blasted from planes taking off?

I've only done turns into st maarten, but it definitely looks like a good place to stay and visit. Nice beach, crystal clear water, lots of bars, lots of boats, asides from fence riding.

Hey Rob,

Ive been there and apart from maho beach the island offers plenty more. You can make your way down to Phillipsburg (30 min drive from the airport) and theres alot of shopping stores and beach activities there also. The whole island itself takes about an hour to drive around so it doesnt take long to discover something yourself. Theres plenty of beaches where you can rent sea doos, or go on boat tours ,snorkeling etc etc.

Cheers

btw great to see KLM still flying these around. I see them come into Toronto quite a few times.

Unless I am mistaken, I think KLM uses MD-11s for flights to Canada.

I wish it were true Aharon, I happened to be at the airport today watching planes land, the KLM flight was equipped with the A330 and prior to that it was a 777.

I have not seen the MD11 since earlier this year.  It sure would have made my day if had seen one.

I did a double take while driving by KSFO yesterday afternoon when I saw a KLM Md11 parked at terminal A.  I was surprised because I had it in my mind that KLM was to retire the MD11's this year. Anyway, it was a nice surprise.

I wish it were true Aharon,

Actually I saw KLM MD-11s landing or taking off at CYUL and CYVR.

Went to St Maarten in 2003 for a wedding (two trapeze artists from Cirque Du Soleit getting married; one French and one a Scouser!)

Had drinks at the wooden shack bar that's accessed via the road on the runway approach....

It's an interesting place because the airport is in the Dutch side, but most of the rest of the tourist places and hotels are in the French side.  So before going I was expecting a Dutch influenced place but in reality, apart from the Dutch flag at the airport, everything about the place is French influenced........... except, almost everyone speaks English.

Cool place, but it was $500 a night at the hotel we were at (2003 prices!), and in general the whole island is very expensive, especially on the tourist trails.

I'll be on the island one day during a cruise next July, I'll be sure to get myself hauled off to that beach. Just hope there will be a few approaches...

Cool

Get to the bar at lunchtime, get some cocktails in, and sit and wait for the daily Air France 744
