November 21, 201312 yr Exactly. And there is no reason not to have both installed. You don't have to delete fsx just because you have P3D installed. So P3D does not render the "FSX entertainment licence" invalid? What happened to AVSIM
November 21, 201312 yr Like should I jump ship now, before all the developers start going to P3D, and I have all this money wasted on FSX... like exactly what happened with FS9 users. Practically every add-on that was made for FSX can be ported to P3D. That was not true at all for FS9 > FSX. So, if you wanted to get into FSX now and purchase add-ons than you shouldn't worry about them not being compatible. It is dependent upon what you do in your sim on if you want to switch or not. A lot of people fly complex add-ons (e.g. PMDG) and won't be making the switch if or until PMDG does. I still think P3D is going to have to go through a period to prove itself. Personally, P3D is going to have to do a lot of convincing for me to start dumping money into another simulation that is still a 32-bit program (assuming PMDG even makes the move to P3D). PMDG still has aircraft in development for FSX that will last over the next few years, so there is plenty of time to decide. I'll be waiting to see what PMDG decides after that time frame.
November 21, 201312 yr So P3D does not render the "FSX entertainment licence" invalid? Only if you sing when you fly Olli, you don't do you ? System: MSFS2024, ASUS Rog Stryx Z790-A, Intel i9-14900KF, Asus ROG Ryujin III 360 , Asus Hyperion Case,Rog Stryx 4090 OC, Samsung 970 EVO M.2 SSD, 1Tb Samsung 860 EVO SSD,64Gb G Skill Memory, Asus Aura 1200W Gold PSU,Win 11 ,LG C4 48" 4K OLED Screen., Airbus TCA Full Kit, Stream Deck XL. November 21, 201312 yr A lot of people have been saying that if P3D becomes popular enough PMDG, they will eventually switch. And I didn't mean "Wasted" in that way. If all developers are starting to drift off of FSX for P3D, you WILL switch, leaving all the add ons you flew with FSX "a waste". I mean, do all of you that had FS9 years ago that bought add ons for it, still fly FS9 just for those old add ons?
November 21, 201312 yr Only if you sing when you fly Olli, you don't do you ? A couple of traditional Maori songs to distract me from my memories of former QN "nighttime ops"; is that relevant, Julian?!? :LMAO:  (...) I mean, do all of you that had FS9 years ago that bought add ons for it, still fly FS9 just for those old add ons? I dumped FS9 (hosting the PSS 777) only very recently after release of the PMDG T7. What happened to AVSIM
November 21, 201312 yr IMHO I will not buy any more new FSX addons. It's time to update this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yB7CAKWhOdc Riccardo OS: Windows 10-64 bit, CPU: i7-7700K @4.20 GHz, GPU: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1080 G1 8GB GDDR5, RAM: Corsair Vengeance DDR4 32GB 3000MHz, MB: MSI Z270
November 21, 201312 yr Let's hope that L/M doesn't decide a year from now that it's loosing contracts and cuts the dev team from P3D in order to reign in budgets. Here we go again...
November 21, 201312 yr A couple of traditional Maori songs to distract me from my memories of former QN "nighttime ops"; is that relevant, Julian?!? Good choice Olli. Good job I was not in QN when you were there, you and I could have got into a lot of trouble  System: MSFS2024, ASUS Rog Stryx Z790-A, Intel i9-14900KF, Asus ROG Ryujin III 360 , Asus Hyperion Case,Rog Stryx 4090 OC, Samsung 970 EVO M.2 SSD, 1Tb Samsung 860 EVO SSD,64Gb G Skill Memory, Asus Aura 1200W Gold PSU,Win 11 ,LG C4 48" 4K OLED Screen., Airbus TCA Full Kit, Stream Deck XL. November 21, 201312 yr What will go the wayside or be set back , IMO, is Xplane and FSX DX10 Preview.
November 21, 201312 yr Nothing lasts forever, and unless your willing to stay w/ one sim and will be happy w/ what you have, like me and FS9 you will always be forking out money, it's up to you as to how much, right! As for PMDG or others, don't believe anything most of all speculation from others who are not writing the checks. Who's to say they won't close shop at some point. technology will force most of us to change at some point, and that for me is really the deciding point, what will work w/ what.
November 21, 201312 yr If all developers are starting to drift off of FSX for P3D, you WILL switch, leaving all the add ons you flew with FSX "a waste". Oh. I WILL switch? That's news to me. I own FSX. I own P3D. I have them installed right this moment on my PC. I spend 99% of my sim time in FS9. Because I LIKE it.
November 22, 201312 yr I really do not understand this thread at all, well, mainly the original post. Why would out thoughts matter ? If you want to move on go for it, if not, don't. As others have said, you could even run both ! I am being quite sincere, I really don't understand what you are asking/what point you are trying to make. As with every iteration, it will be some time before things stabilize, and until then, I personally won't even consider a straight switch. Well there are other reasons too but that discussion is for another thread, but if I was interested, I see no harm in grabbing it to tinker with. "If all developers are starting to drift off of FSX for P3D, you WILL switch, leaving all the add ons you flew with FSX "a waste" This is the perspective that really just baffles me. Why ? What is wasted ? What would prevent me from using said !widgets in FSX ? Regards,Brian Doney
November 22, 201312 yr Wait for the performance reviews. We've seen plenty of eye candy however due to the NDA no one can comment on performance. Once users start telling us how she performs vs fsx then you will make your mind up fairly quickly.
November 22, 201312 yr A lot of people have been saying that if P3D becomes popular enough PMDG, they will eventually switch Actually, they don't need to switch. Not preventing their addons from working at P3D is enough. They put themselves in a difficult position by doing that. Anyway, I am a GA flyer, not really interested in big jets or pmdg woodpigeons.
November 22, 201312 yr And I didn't mean "Wasted" in that way. If all developers are starting to drift off of FSX for P3D, you WILL switch, leaving all the add ons you flew with FSX "a waste". I WILL switch? No, I won't. Matter of fact, I use FS9. I mean, do all of you that had FS9 years ago that bought add ons for it, still fly FS9 just for those old add ons? I still use FS9 and don't use FSX, so to answer your question, yes, I do still fly in FS9 just for those add-ons. Captain Kevin Air Kevin 124 heavy, wind calm, runway 4 left, cleared for take-off. Live streams of my flights here.
