I for one am no big fan of LM leaving a lot over to third party developers ...........

........I'd prefer a closed and intergrated addon market tightly controlled by the developer of the sim.

Do you mean like Microsoft Flight? This is a platform developed for their professional market. We are just lucky to be here for the ride.

That excluding developer model worked well in the Flight didn't it? NOT. :P

Sounds familiar. Like some product released about early 2012 that bombed badly. But I cannot quite remember the name...

David Zambrano, CFII, CPL, IGI

I know there's a lot of money in aviation because I put it there.

Exactly! Flight is what happens when a flightsim developer excludes 3rd party developers (or is too controlling of them). How long did Flight last before MS gave up on it? Like 6 months.

We are all used to 'game-prices' but maybe we have to prepare ourselves for 'pro-prices' for future addons?

It's the old supply-demand curve. So far, no 3rd party developer has decided to charge significantly more for a P3d version than an FSX version. The one differential that comes to mind is the small additional fee (~$5 US) for REX P3d. ORBX has also stated that their products will have triple installers (FSX and both P3d versions), but that a few ORBX regions might have a small aditional fee if P3d2 development costs for that region are significant.

It's possible that some developers might raise their prices for P3d2 add ons, but then again, their sales volumes would be affected. If P3d2 was the only viable flight sim option, most of us would have no choice. But most of us already have P3d 1.4, FSX or XP10. It's just a question of where we will direct our future add-on purchases. And the 3rd party developers know this.

I know, but I was talking about NEW developers who are going to develop for P3D exclusively...! Don't forget that LM also releases P3D as a platform for developers for some serious simming stuff. As I said I don't expect current FTX devs to up the prices for P3D but take note that all those devs will create addons for both FSX and P3D. But from a simmer's point of view the most interesting addons might (!) come from new P3D-only developers who really take things seriously. And that might include the prices! ^_^

P3D offers some (or a lot?) of new possibilities for developers! I am curious to see how many current FSX developers will go for P3D completely, forgetting about FSX, but also how many new developers will show up (for P3D only).

I liked this one

"So, with all that said, v2 is 32-bit. We've put a lot of thought into a 64-bit v2, and will continue to do so, but I can't promise you when it will be done or ready, or what all the hiccups with existing add-ons would be."

I don't mind giving up backward compatibility and reinvest addons for a 64 bit FSXII . I am prepared to do that only for  the 64bit  FSX version. At that point the benefits  outweighs the cost  of investment in rebuilding addon sceneries.. Otherwise I need backward compatibility.

I agree with you to a point. It would be awesome to have a 64 bit "FSX" and I would want jump ship but it would be a slow process. But at the same time, I couldn't drop twice of what I've already spent just to have the same addons I currently have for a 64 bit version and a lot of others probably wouldn't want to either. For now, a 32 bit application with updated coding for better performance seems to be the perfect answer for our community. What if the new improvements get rid of most or all of our current 32 bit problems? Then it is just as good as a 64 bit, yeah?

Yes, kind of like Flight, only replace Flight with FS11. If Microsoft had done the decent thing and finnished FS11 I am sure there would have been a great deal of addon developers queing up to sell their addons through the FS11 market. I am sure, even with MS taking their cut it would have been a profitable venture as volumes would have been huge compared to devs selling through smaller publishers like many do today. Of course, a few openings to install freeware mods should be implemented, otherwise we'd all be flying fictional liveries and aircraft.

I have never been under the illusion that the above in any way would be of interrest to Lockheed Martin. Since P3D is the only sim going somewhere I am happy to join the ranks, but personally I'd prefer a flight sim that also included more entertainment elements.

Yeah...I would then have both the 32bit and the 64bit version Just like I had FS9 along with FSX...until I gathered enough addons for FSX and then I dropped FS9...so yeah..it would be a parallel approach so to speak.
