December 17, 200421 yr Check this out!http://www.airnavsystems.com/ANFS/index.htmAnyone try it yet? Or is it too new to get opinions?
December 17, 200421 yr I dont know about this, but i have airnavs flighttracker 6.0 and it only tracks planes in the US, so unless they have come up with something new this isnt for me as it only works if your flying in the US.Even if it worked with Europes ai traffic, i would never pay 70$ for and ai addon.OHN
December 17, 200421 yr he yahjust stumbled around this...tried it, worked, wiped it off for that price....also...no international traffic, so indeed i think they won
December 17, 200421 yr But Imagine having this along with the internet live ATC for that airport.BTW.. is there a subscription fee for this?If there is no subscription fee and if they sell it for $40 bucks then it may be OK. Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
December 17, 200421 yr Moderator >70 bucks? Not for me.Actually, FS Live Traffic is "only" $54.95 *:-* The $70 package is a different software package entirely... Fr. Bill AOPA Member: 07141481 AARP Member: 3209010556 Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
December 18, 200421 yr >But Imagine having this along with the internet live ATC for>that airport.>>BTW.. is there a subscription fee for this?>>If there is no subscription fee and if they sell it for $40>bucks then it may be OK.Not sure- looks to me like a recurring $54.95 every six months unless you cancel your "account". I didn't know it was only for US traffic, but even at that it's a pretty cool concept for as real as it gets (in the USA). A bit too much for me, but if I won the lottery or had the extra cash it would be on my sim!ho-hum, back to Ultimate Traffic, which is World wide and kept up to date sufficiently IMO.
December 18, 200421 yr >Check this out!>>http://www.airnavsystems.com/ANFS/index.htm>>Anyone try it yet? Or is it too new to get opinions?Hmmm, good and bad IMO. First off I've owned and subscribed to AirNavSystems 2 and 3 flight tracking for over a year.Unless this package that interfaces with MSFS is different than the tracking package then there is a 10 minute delay,I don't know if this is still in the version 6 or not.So...if you know of a flight taking off from your local airport at 10:00 AM it might not show departing in COF until 10:10 am. Also when connect to their server for long periods of time it seems to time-out frequently, its easy to reconnect by just pressing a button but it does happen. How would you know if it disconnected if you have COF running??Good point though is that all AI flights using this package are real and in real time. If the airliner is the air in COF then its really in the air, where as with Ultimate traffic they fly according to the pre-made schedule without weather delays, equipment delays.Question too is how much of a drag would it be on your system? Using the tracking system I've seen the counter show as many as 6500 aircraft in the air at any given time. Hmmm...David
December 18, 200421 yr I am no addon prude.......I BUY EVERYTHING in FS9 addons, but I have my limits. Project Majenta is a NO NO, too MUCH $$. This new AirNav product sounds to me like a really expensive Traffic2004 product. I love my Ultimate Traffic (and it was just updated to the most recent industry scheduling WORLD wide) including it's FS9-caused eccentricities. This AirNav product will cost a minimum of $140.00 per year, maybe more and what does it do?? Well, to tell you the truth, by my reading of the website, they aint tellin' much. For that kind of money the website is very UN-informative. I kind of assumed at first that the server connection actively (maybe with a few minutes delay, an understanddable security issue) updates a planes position, apparently not so, the software creates a kind of "schedule" on the run leaving FS9 to muddle up the final approaches as usual, but THEY don't tell you! So, for $140.00 per year subscription, I need to know a WHOLE lot MORE!! HELLO!! AIRNAV! are you THERE!!????? (oh yes, they don't have a forum do they!!! TSK TSK TSK>Randy Jura, KPDX
December 18, 200421 yr I just checked out their web site and read these posts and I'm still not sure what you get for the money. Interesting concept though, I think. :-)billg
December 18, 200421 yr I had often wondered if someone would be able to take real time data and convert it into FS flightplans. Now it's a reality :-OIf only this had international flights, I would buy it in a heartbeat. I think I will wait for the price to come down. Very sweet idea though!!
December 18, 200421 yr To add to this, if you can't adjust the amount of traffic it shows by the setting in FS 2004, then it'll definitely bring a low-end system to its knees.
December 18, 200421 yr Hi All,I've just downloaded and run the demo version. Everything worked fine I guess. Its US$54.95 for a 6 month stint if you have AUTOMATIC renewals or US$70 for manual renewals. I would probably pay that IF it wasn't just US traffic. I'm not entirly sure what percentages of FlightSim people are from the US as opposed to Europe, Oceania and the Middle East areas, but I very rarely fly in the states and paying US$70 (100 of my Australian $$) for the pleasure of having realtime AI for the hour a week I'm into LAX or JFK simple isn't worth it. Somehow I don't think this one will sell too well ..Just my 2 Australian cents, which really isn't worth that much at allCheers,Kael
December 18, 200421 yr Add me to the list of people that are confused how this package works. As I understand AI traffic, FS reads all existing traffic bgl type files from the SceneryWorldScenery folder when it starts, then displays the AI traffic based on sim time and location (the 40 mile ring around the user's location). The AirNav product says you run a preprocess program before starting FS. This is very vague, but I assume this program reads the AirNav database and creates a traffic.bgl file. If this is correct, then how does the AI traffic get updated after the sim is running? The traffic file is normally locked by FS and it remains static. How do "real-time" weather delays and schedule changes occur while FS is running, as claimed on the AirNav web site? The only way changes can occur is by shutting down FS, running the AirNav program again to generate a new traffic file, then restarting FS.Maybe AirNav knows how to work a dynamic traffic file while FS is running, but I doubt it.So is it fair to summarize the AirNav subscription fee as a more current version (up to the time you launch FS) of an Ultimate Traffic update, but limited to the United States?
