full throttle startup?

Its not sloppy at all when you think about what you are buying, you are buying a bit of software that can simulate aircraft systems no matter how complex and its up to you to lean how to start them and its up to the developer to make sure they work correctly from cold and dark so who is to blame if you cant start an aircraft from cold and dark.

you for learning how to start it or the developer for not making sure the addon works that way as there is plenty of simmers who do the whole cold and dark thing as it should be.

The always on is a short cut to save us 2 minutes of time ( maybe less than that ) but thats all it is, remember simulation not game :)

Well just to reemphasize, I'm very excited about P3D and it's billing as a genuine Simulator. In fact, it's about time!  However,  I can envision many situations where a realistic scenario is played out from other than cold and dark.  So yes, I think it is sloppy, and hopefully we can agree to just disagree on this point.

Suppose its been said but I dont think LM is interested in aircraft as much as a graphics engine for feeding mutli monitors in a professional , airline type situation. Umm go figure that. :)

This is just a general view - it''s not aimed at anyone specifically  (it applies to lot's of posts at the moment);

My personal view is that people aren't really able to offer a credible view on P3D 2.0 unless they've bought it, and persevered beyond the first 10 minutes of frustration that we all experience with anything 'new'.

My first impression of P3D was a default aircraft, in default scenery, with 9 FPS ......  24 hours later, I am flying the Airbus Extended between complex payware airports with max autogen and all the weather Opus can throw at me, and cockpit shadows, with 40+ FPS.

Everyone is of course within their rights to dislike it, if they've tried it and perhaps have decided it's not for them, or maybe they don't want to put the time into tuning it to their hardware.    But if you haven't even tried it, and are basing your view that it's beta level or crap or whatever purely on other people's posts, then your view is going to lack credibility.

Ok, well exxcoooooooooose me, Q.   I don't "dislike" P3D at all.  In fact I can't wait to get it.  I just don't like to see a bunch of errors reported in an initial release that you know darned well they were aware of beforehand, but they must have been like, who cares?  This isn't like, hey we'll implement SLI in the next release, this is like hey the plane surges forward to the gate when you load it up and you crash.  I don't need an actual copy of P3D to know what that means, because I'm an experienced FSX user, and it's similar enough for me to comment.

My only "credible view" is that I'm not a fan of obvious sloppy errors making their way into the Release to market.  We see that far too much!  If this is what people are reporting, including yourself, then I can only believe them.  If it is only a stupid, localized, error that some guy is making on their own computer, then well, sue me, I'm wrong.

Jeroen i think the issue is that prepar3d stops you from having a idle throttle, in fsx you could have a 0 in the options for the throttle and p3d you cant,

Yes, I understand the issue, but I don't have that issue. When I start P3D with my default flight, the plane stands idle on its parking spot. As soon as I have the A2A C172 installed, I will save it cold and dark.

1. Simply save a new default flight with the throttle closed.

2. Make sure your hardware throttle is at idle when you start a flight: UNLIKE FSX it seems that P3D 'reads' the position of your throttle right away, at least with my new default flight. In FSX I could have the hardware throttle fully open but if I loaded a flight which had the throttle at idle, the plane was at idle until I moved my hardware throttle. With P3D my plane in my new default flight stands prefectly still when I start the sim with my hardware throttle at idle but when I have it fully open, my plane immediately wants to take off.

I never used to load a flight in FSX I always used the startup screen to select my options. However, on my system In FSX if I have accidentally left the throttle on full and start FSX and select what, where I'm going to fly I would always have to stab the brakes and close the throttle. The behaviour in P3D v2 was exactly the same for me so I didn't spot that their was an issue. Will have to go and check it out when I have time.

What throttles are you using btw, im just using the one built in to TM T.16000M ??

Same here. The only time I have full throttle at start up is when I look over and see I left my throttle quadrant wide open.

I also never load flights but I meant the default flight which I always create. When P3D starts up the Maule is selected and so is ENBR Bergen, Norway plus the weather. Those are my new defaults. I don't want to select every flight from scratch everytime! So I never actually load this flight: it simply holds my preferred default settings (also like zoom and so on).

The one on my Logitech Extreme 3D Pro. Maybe it's different depening on the hardware you use indeed.

I think i found the problem and its not a P3D issue, if your throttle is set to a slider and not an axis when ever the controller is needed it defaults the slider to 50% of its range and it wont change until you move the throttle and it has the effect of full throttle in the sim until you adjust it and wake it up.

Sadly this does seem to be a hardware/driver issue and not a Prepar3d issue. I tested by removing 100% of all controls in P3D and only having the throttle enabled and i still got the same result.

In windows when going in to the game controllers properties windows i noticed the throttle was at 50% until i moved the throttle and it was like that every time i looked at that page, even after updating the drivers for my joystick and that throttle at 50% is translated directly in to the sim

I guess it could be fixed if you know where to look in the registry but sadly i do not so i cant post a fix for anyone.

Posting the same on the prepar3d forums as i dont think they can fix this.

Have you all tried doing a custom default flight with throttle set to idle yet?

I got this same behavior with FSX after I forgot full throttle on while saving a new default flight.

Also it didn't matter whether I loaded the default flight or selected different aircraft/airport, the plane always had full throttle on after loading.

FWIW I only got the full throttle first couple tries- with "enable controllers" set. As soon as I got FSUIPC.ini copied across and unticked the "enable", all was ok.  Took me a while as haven't used anything for controls except FSUIPC for ages and forgot to untick for the new load.  Two quadrants and a 65F  Dunno if it helps . . . I know it doesn't mean there isn't a problem, but helps to isolate where maybe?

Your last sentence summed up most of the "problem reports" that've been posted here and all over the World Wide Wasteland over the past few days!

For example, my habit has always been to place my throttles, prop and mixture controls full "off" when shutting down.

As a result, I never experienced the "zooming down the runway" that began this thread!

I have a safe default flight if you want to give it a shot.

BE58 on the runway at KHLG.

Engines off but mags back to both, batt on, avionics on, parking brake set.

Move it where ever you want and re-save, should be ok. I have loaded it a good dozen times now without issue.

Someone over at P3D figured it out. The throttle axis was spread over 3 different devices: the throttle itself, the joystick and the rudder pedals. Lost the other two and since then, no problems. Saved default flight with throttles in this condition was of no avail obviously.

I've also installed FSUIPC and have moved the throttle over to that and that seems to be working well, for now at least. I think the joystick is next.

Thanks for all the help,

Mark
