Just watching those shadows move across the panel makes it all worth it.

Its interesting to note that I never had trackir lag in FSX, even with the highest settings possible.

Same here. I can see in P3D when my settings are becoming too high because of the TrackIR lag and NOT because of performance itself, which is pretty odd. TrackIT begins too lag 'long' before performance starts to degrade. So as long as TrackIR is okay, everything is (rather) okay.  ^_^

Amen. The shadows bring light into the sim. I sure can't fly without VC shadows anymore!

The moving in-cockpit shadows really do go a long way toward putting you "in the seat."

Its really to the point where I don't care much for all the other shadowing, and the performance loss associated. Luckily, the cockpit and external shadows negligibly affects performance and the sim runs very nicely.

Something I've been wanting to say but forgot: during the last two days before my reinstall of everything, so when things were going wrong all the time, I had that problem/bug where the trees would look very odd. I had to change the resolution in the sim and then change them back again to get them right. I didn't have those weird trees during the first 5 days! But once I got them I couldn't get rid of them (after startup, that is).

Now I have reinstalled P3D... and all trees are fine all the time. I also noticed a few onscreen messages (differential brakes etc.) which I hadn't seen for a while even though I did not disable them in the cfg.

So... it seems to me that P3D can get a bit messed up if you change options too often...? Anyone else having the same experience?

Can't edit my post anymore so I will reply myself. I just installed the A2A C172 again and immediately got those weird trees again. That plane really isn't as compatible as some think it is! I won't use it anymore until LM or A2A solve various issues.

BTW When I loaded that plane I also got an Simconnect error...? Weird stuff. I'll forget about that C172 for now!!!

You have hit the nail on it's head. That's the case with many of these addons! Reminds me of the FS2004 to FSX days. Oreven FS2000 to FSX. Just read someone trying to port a FS2004 native aircraft to V2 on the LM forum. Good luck with thata one. :)

A couple weird things that I have noticed:

-Differential brakes message displays at startup and other random times, despite not depressing my brake pedals.

-If you are flying along on autopilot, then go into the settings window and return, the plane will bank off to one side. The only fix is to cycle my rudder pedals then all is back to normal and auto pilot regains control.

Yes, the C172 is a no go for me right now. I will fly the default Maule or the (Carenado) A36. I will also have a look at some Carenado FSX planes I have: from what I've understood they are officially compatible. I have a few lying around and which I hardly used in FSX: they might come in handy now. But ONLY if I they are really fully compatible!!!

Jeroen...  try out your old LH Kodiak.  I'm having fun with it.  :)

Oh my, I haven't used that one in years…! But I don't have EMT and neither FSX for the sounds. And I rather only install really official compatible stuff.  ^_^ I had another look at the A36 but there is something about it that I don't really like. It's dark and the lights look fake somehow. I will see if I have any other FSX planes left that I haven't used for a while and check if they are truly compatible but I didn't buy that many so I think I will have to stick with the Maule for now.

EDIT

I see some have the Katana 4x installed with success… Man, it's really hard to NOT give that a try too LOL

Ah, ok.  Yeah, it is a bummer about it needing alternate sounds.  That took me a minute to figure out.

As to the Estonia tool, I think it is pretty much just an easy way to set up a symbolic link and FSX registry entry, which other posts here have covered.

The Mooney Acclaim!!!

When you mentioned the Kodiak I suddenly thought about the Mooney Acclaim, created by the same devs! So when I got home I fired up P3D and selected the Mooney. I noticed it only comes with a G1000 and I didn't really like that because of the performance hit that device usually gives. Well, this isn't FSX for sure...! I loaded the Mooney, loaded bad weather (the same that gave me problems when I still had volu-fog on) and I just finished a half hour flight where fps constantly stayed above 30 (limist is at 34)!!! I noticed fps dropped two or three times to a amazing 29.7 LOL but that was it!

Yes! Now we're talking! Ok, at first sight everything looks exactly like FSX LOL but in FSX I never had been able to fly a plane with a (similar) G1000 and keep fps up like this! And all that with rock steady autogen and textures loading on time (while this isn't a very slow plane). The VC of the Acclaim is even better than the Kodiak imho: all 3D buttons on the G1000 (if I remember well the G1000 in the Kodiak is flat). Everything looks very sharp too! The view isn't that good though because there is a lot of cockpit in front of you, but well, this is a very good 'default' aicraft!

I wonder why I haven't read more about this plane on this forum...?

Anyway, this first complete flight with my new settings went exactly as I hoped, even though it was with a G1000! Max fps all the way and smooth too. Well, sometimes I see a slight stutter when I look around but that's what you have with TrackIR: usually even panning is smooth (TIR at high priority). So in short: I am back in heaven again LOL (Yes, my middle name is Fickle... :P )

I think we have all, more or less, settled on settings and how each affect what and work well on our PC's. It takes a little time and is worth the effort.

I think A2A have already stated that the C172 is not V2 ready.

The installer is only P3D 1.4 verified.
