January 8, 201412 yr Hello Skully, nice pictures and very interesting. I have Xplane 9 and never used it as much as MSFS because it's limited in a few important matters such as visibility. Seems that this is the next big step. The Manhattan scenery is this stock or some addon? Do they have some generic buildings on airports and airfields now? Thanks PC: Ryzen 7 3700x AM4, 16 GB RAM, RTX 3060 12GB, Storage SSD 3TB, HDD 8TB, USB 8TB, 2 Screens, Win10-64 SIMs: FSX SE, P3d 3.4/4.5/6.1, Xplane 10/11/12, MSFS 2020/24, Aerofly FS 4
January 8, 201412 yr Author Hello Andreas! That Manhattan scenery is a converted FSX scenery demo from :Dzrewiecki Design http://secure.simmarket.com/drzewiecki-design-new-york-city-x-fsx-p3d-(es_7695).phtml Some fsx sceneries can be converted to AP10 by a free program called FSX2XP. XP10.25 has many populated airports from users submissions that Laminar included in the update. As more developers make the move to XP10 it will become the sim of choice. The 3rd party developers have made FSX what it is currently. I can only imagine how good X-Plane could be with that kind of support and an active company Laminar Research continuously making improvements and upgrades.
January 10, 201412 yr Thanks Skully, I will watch how this continues. Xplane 10 will be finished when they have reached Version 10.70 or so. January 10, 201412 yr What are your Computer specs? Some machine, XP 10 is going to change the sim world, 64 bit is a real wow factor. And BLI only 30 min from my man cave. XP-10 was the right choice for me a few weeks ago. Sure have some great free stuff out there, should only get better as more jump onboard.
January 10, 201412 yr Author Polar, I'm running a modest rig by today's standards. I5 Quad Core 3 gig Nvidia GTX 660 8 gigs system Ram I cannot get over on how smooth and beautiful XP10 is. Totally fluid flight with HDR lighting that will melt your retinas B)

Totally fluid flight with HDR lighting that will melt your retinas B) I sometimes find HDR a bit..non-fluid for my likening, although I *cant* go back to non HDR now - what are your rendering settings if you don't mind me asking? I have a similar system, but I get a bunch of Jaggies in HDR and 4*4 AA usually crucifies my frames :(. Cheers
January 10, 201412 yr Author Hey Conrad, I'll post a pic of my current setting for tonight when I get home. I helped a friend get his XP10 setup last night but he's running an ATI card so my setting didn't translate well to his system but we got it running great after some adjustments.
January 11, 201412 yr If I could get my yoke configured similar to how it is in FSX then I would most likely be flying in XP more Scott
January 11, 201412 yr Here you go Conrad. You are really getting smooth frame rates and no stutters with these settings? Your texture load is over 2 gigs, how much VRAM does your card have? My settings are not as high, I try to keep my texture load at around 1 gig, sometimes it can go as high as 1.500 mb, but then it can become laggy, especially when panning in outside view. I use OSM Europe and autogen, along with SyMaxx Pro and the freshly installed Aerosoft EDDH. There, I had only 15 fps left in the JARDesign A320 with hefty stuttering when panning the view (down to 2-3 fps and up again). Up in the air, it went up to 30-40 fps and became perfectly fluid. Generally, when many clouds come up, my performance drops significantly. My cloud detail is set to 20%. Any tips to get a little more headroom in dense scenery, without the loss of this beautiful look, would be highly appreciated. My system: i5 3570K 16 GB CL9 RAM GTX 670 2GB all installed on SSD
January 11, 201412 yr Blooming heck. I run a 4GB gtx 770, and an i5 4670k@4ghz with 16GB RAM and I can run high, but that's insane! Your settings!

How do you manage? Shadows are a killer!
January 11, 201412 yr Author Michael, I don't have the A320 so I don't know how much of load it throws at XP but I'm at the limit of smoothness at these settings with the Carenado birds. The check box for VRAM Compression- it doesn't seem to make any difference whether I have it checked or not.. go figure.. but I usually have it on. I've not had time to play around with the clouds at all. Since I love the HDR light I usually clear all weather. Note that I don't have everything maxed out and I probably could turn the trees down a notch from the "tree hugger" setting lol. Shadows don't appear to affect my performance. Try clearing ALL Weather and set your visibility out to about 50+ miles and see how it runs. My card is an EVGA 660GTX Superclocked 2 gig card. http://www.evga.com/Products/Product.aspx?pn=02G-P4-2662-KR http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/evga_geforce_gtx_660_sc_review,1.html Plus a power supply that browns out the neighborhood.. Ian, from your specs you should be running it like a rocket. I don't know if it matters but my computer is a dedicated gaming rig and I don't have AV installed or use it for anything other than simming so it's a pretty trim system and I'm very careful what I install on it.

Thanks for your detailed answer. The clouds have the biggest impact on my system. Shadows, event number of objects don't seem to have a big influence. But even though I reduced cloud detail to 20% in XPX and turned down the detail slider in Skymaxx Pro to its minimum, my sim drops from 40-50 frames in the air to 17-21 as soon as more clouds pop up.
