Thanks, I have followed your instructions and opened the list for fs9, unfortunatly the biggest fs9 file on the list is 1.32 MB. The fs9 update is bigger at 26.7 MB, surely fs9 should be much bigger? I am looking in the right place as it is the default location c program files (x86) It looks like the file MSVCR70dll is already in the fs9 folder! But I am still getting this message!

Go ahead and replace the existing file with the copy you extracted.

Can't hurt anything doing so.

Yes, the FS9.exe is only 1.32 MB, not very big really.

The update is much bigger because it contains a bunch of textures, among other files.

If this doesn't fix it, I am out of ideas.

You may have to reinstall FS9.

Whatever you do, do not, do not, do not let a random website try to fix this for you. They will probably infect your PC with something you don't want.

You will be better off to re-install FS9.

If you decide to reinstall I have some ideas that might make it less painful for you.

Thanks again! I think that I may just do a re-install as I checked on the uninstall program list and fs9 is on there but there is no size on it just the version 9.0 even though I thought I had the update installed! On fsx it has the size 12.7GB , I have been using fs9 for the last 9 years and have no interest in fsx so any help would be appreciated in a re-install of fs9 without having to also re-install the dozens of addons that I have which seem to be still intact. Thanks for all your help Joe

Just done a re-install of fs9 and the problem still exists! When I attempt to open fs9 the cursor starts a slow spin as if fs9 is loading and my disc drive whirrs into life then NOTHING! When I check on what programs are currently running, fs9 is on the list and if I attempt to start it again the same thing happens and fs9 appears on the list a second time, so I may have 2 maybe 3 fs9 programs running at the same time! Any suggestions anyone? This is confusing me big time.

Go to the folder that has your FS9.cfg and rename it to FS9.bak.  Restart FS9 and it will build a new fs9.cfg file.  If this is a fresh install, I can't think of any other obvious problems that would cause the difficulties you're having.

Cheers,

Jeff

Ok Jeff, will try that soon. Thanks

When I go into task manager I can see fs9.exe *32 at 16,280K and not fluctuating up or down like some other programs. Any clues on that one? I can not find the FS9.cfg folder.

Assuming all is installed normally, it should be in:

C:\Users\**Your ID**\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FS9

Make sure you have win 7 set to show hidden files.  Don't worry about what FS9 is showing in task manager right now.  It's not important at the moment.

Just done a second re-install of FS9 and still the problem exists. I noticed a warning when I start my computer... It reads " there was a problem starting C:\Program files (x86)\Conduit\CT3306061\plugins\TBVerifier.dll" could this be something to do with FS9 failing to load at all? Thanks everyone for they're help so far. Gary

'System Restore' should cure all your ill's.

Or, Program Files/Microsoftgames/FS2004/Troubleshooting/Restore Defaults.

Just my 2 cents...

Came across failure to start FS9.1 under Win7 recently, even with UAC disabled.

After going into circles for a while, decided to run "fs9.exe" in Compatibility mode, as if running under Windows XP SP3.

Finally got it to start. After the first run, was even able to remove the compatibility mode and run it in native mode.

Maybe the issue is just with that part of the software that creates folders in \AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FS9\ folder.

As you still are struggeling with unidentified problems, I would suggest a radical solution:

- backup your actual FS9 - best would be on an external HD

- uninstall completly actual FS9 - not just delete ther folder. Use "programs" and than "delete" in "system control" of your Wndows

- check whether FS9 folder has been deleted in User/AppData/Roaming/Microsoft

- reinstall a basic FS9

- install FS9.1 update

- Check whether this Basic FS9 runs correctly

- paste folders from backup drive one by one and check after each step whether your FS is running correctly

This way takes more time, but it wouldn't' be worth than waist time by searching inexplicable errors.

In addition to what Bernard suggests, I'd recommend installing FS9 directly to your root drive and not to the program files directory.  When you re-install, set the target to C:\Flight Simulator 9.  That should help to avoid some of the UAC issues inherent in newer versions of Windows.

If I was to install FS9 directly to root drive and not to program files directory. Can I just move the addons over or is there more to it? I I know a certain amount about computers but not a whole lot as you have probably gathered. All my addons are still on my system. Thanks again
