March 1, 201412 yr The only problem was Vsync, and that has been fixed too. Vsync is probably the final frontier for DX10 on my machine, if I could get that going I would probably be willing to stay in DX10. How did you get it working ? Mad Dog - download the latest How-To. I've added another section on Vsync, plus an extra paragraph - second to last - that will get you greater help. All the Best, pj Thanks Paul, grabbing it now

March 1, 201412 yr Mad dog ... let us know how you make out with the Vsync issue. Even when I tried Paul's recommended settings, I just couldn't get the AA to look as good with DX10 as compared to DX9. I've hit that sweet spot with FSX, I just don't know if DX10 can make it and better. Yet ... I'd sure like to know if it can. -- tazz
March 1, 201412 yr I use the same AA settings in FSX as you do, Mad dog (8xS and 2x SGSS), and this looks far superior in DX9 mode than any setting I have tried in DX10 mode. In addition, I experienced a serious stutter issue recently at the large airports with anything more than a handful of AI planes active, and I have a strong suspicion that it was caused by switching to DX10 mode (in other words, something that was done to certain files), and there is no way that I am risking that again. Several addon scenery packages were also suspects, but these have been eliminated from the investigation since I reinstalled everything. March 1, 201412 yr Author Jose, I have never experienced any of those things, the sim is rock solid for me, I have never had an OOM from the day FSX was released. But I have the DX10 fixer now. My AA is nowhere near what I had before and the screen tearing is driving me mad. I am at a loss why so many seem to have so many issues in FSX. I have followed all the guides and still no Vsync here, no AA equivalent to my 8XS, 2x Sparse Grid Supersampling in DX9. I only have a couple of modifications to my FSX.cfg and performance + image quality + stability is superb in DX9. HIGHMEMFIX=1 [bufferPools] UsePools=1 PoolSize=8388608 RejectThreshold=98304 [JOBSCHEDULER] AffinityMask=14 Why am I not having such an horrific time in FSX/DX9 that everyone else seems to be having, I feel a bit left out at this point if I'm honest :-) I wanted to send you this link: http://www.flightsim.ee/freeware/fsx-scheme-fix I use the same AA settings in FSX as you do, Mad dog (8xS and 2x SGSS), and this looks far superior in DX9 mode than any setting I have tried in DX10 mode. I was at the point of giving up on FSX. MSFS
March 1, 201412 yr Over the next couple of evenings I am going to Image both my Win7 drive and FSX drive, then using all the info from here and the DX10 howto I will install Steves DX10 tool again. Hopefully this time I will get a better result.
March 1, 201412 yr Just to provide a "balance", if you will, and echoing what Chris says - not everyone is seeing better performance or visual quality when using DX10 mode, and there are many reasons for this. People come in all shapes and forms, and we all have different personality traits and skillsets: not everyone makes a great electronics technician, or carpenter, or accountant - or pc tech - and "learning DX10 in running on a modern PC" is a skill all of its own. You do need some half-decent hardware, and you will get good FSX performance when the proc runs at 4.6 GHz or better: you will also get good fsx graphics performance when you use an Nvidia x80-series gpu. Nick's "Bible" preaches this - and so do I, and to quote an old automotive saying - "There's no substitute for cubic inches!". It also takes some fairly unique personal qualities to be successful in any endeavour, too, and we don't all posess "the right stuff" (and I'm not a psychiatrist, so I'm not going there!) Suficient to say that this is not unique in the move to embrace DX10. The same posts - hundreds of them occurred with the move from FS9 to FSX. There are still thousands of FS9 simmers, and most of us FSX'ers think there's something wrong with those folks! But this is our hobby, and we are free to manage it exactly how we want to: there are no exams: and no goals to be achieved, and we set our own limits. I have no bone to pick, or judgement to make if any one of us posts "It didn't work for me". Imagine being part of this group below: This is an excerpt from "The Arnold Plan" about WW2 training of RAF pilots in the USofA. "Between the 8 June 1941 and 7 October 1942, thirteen classes, containg 1,254 RAF pilot trainees were enrolled in the Alabama Institute of Aeronautics. Of that number, 758 men (60.45%) successfully completed the course. Of the 497 RAF pilot trainees (39.55%) who failed to complete pilot training at Tuscaloosa, 450, or 35.89% were washed out for flying deficiencies, and 46 cadets were eliminated "for other deficiencies". The moral of this post - not everyone can fly an aeroplane: not everyone can make X-Plane work (I'm one of them :( ) and not everyone can make DX10 work. You're not alone. Of those the only one that could have any performance impact is probably the last. These are restored only if you uninstall the libraries from the controller. Steve My FSX Analysis Blog
March 3, 201412 yr Author Here's something else I noticed. My Latin VFR Airport ground textures no longer shimmer at night. This was so annoying and DX10 fixed these airport. They now look great at night without the yellow shimmering ground textures: MDSD MSFS
March 3, 201412 yr If you like your runways to be flicker free in dx10 then the fixer is the only way to fly... Hehe It would be awesome if Steve could get the FLIR working on the Superbug... Hehe... But everything else seems to be A - OK :-)
March 3, 201412 yr for ORBX FTX users: In DX9 I had here and there the annoying hovering houses issue. This is gone with the DX10 fixer. I think this has to do with different data manangement in DX10. Wulf
March 3, 201412 yr I have seen some posts that some are having vsync issues in FSX DX10... I find that setting half refresh rate in the nvidia inspector and capping fps to 30 in the FSX settings - as well as having force vsync in the FSX.cfg works for me.Note: If running FSX DX10 in windowed mode with Windows 7, then also need the AERO going after fsx starts for vsync to work!!!
March 3, 201412 yr ok I now have the DX10 mode running fine without any vsync issues, the water needs some work as it is really too sparkly at the moment. Any recommendation for a good water set and wave anim from either Rex +OD or AS2012 ?
March 3, 201412 yr When I fired up Steve's DX10 fixer for the first time, my response was an emphatic "big deal." Couldn't notice a bit of difference sitting on the tarmac, other than the clouds had this boxy thing going on for a couple seconds while the weather was loading up. Only after I was barreling down the runway for takeoff did I see the difference: Less stuttering and much smoother flying, especially when the frame rates drop. I had to do a little bit of tweaking, but not much. I think I've squeezed every bit of performance I'm going to get out of my sub-par hardware and graphics card, and the DX10 fixer is an essential part of that alchemy. Money well spent, IMO. March 3, 201412 yr Glad you have mastered that Vsync, MD. I like AS's Waves - 04 - "Frequency".
