March 13, 201412 yr Hi, Does anyone know the name of the program that handles AI traffic? I have recently got back to FS9 and I am keen to fly into busy airports like London Heathrow, I used to use a little freeware program that slowed AI traffic down but i forget the name of it. Does anyone know? Thanks
March 14, 201412 yr You might be thinking of either AISmooth or AI Separation. They should still be available here. Colin B
March 16, 201412 yr You even might use both together. However these tools handle just AI approaches. You still will have the same number of AI, with the difference, that some do endless circles in holding areas ... Bernard
March 16, 201412 yr On a side note, is it possible to increase the length of time that AI planes wait at the threshold before they disappear? I reckon that I would only have to increase this by a single minute to avoid most of the disappearing acts that take place as AI planes wait for me to land and get off the runway. I really hate it when AI planes just vanish. March 17, 201412 yr That can be adjusted by FS Configurator, as I remember. Tom Gibson CalClassic Propliner Page
March 18, 201412 yr fs9cfg16.zip was the last version released. You can set ai taxi speed (tools) but I do not see the mod to control nuke time for ai. aismooth_v120.zip in the FSX Utility library works in FS9 as well. You will need to have fsuipc3 for fs9 installed (but you do not need the payware registration). That is here: http://forum.simflight.com/topic/66139-updated-modules/ full and interim version. ai smooth will allow you to separate incoming traffic on approach according to your specs. This version has documentation. By separating incoming ai you can reduce take-off queues allowing interleaving of incoming and departing traffic. If you are landing at a busy airport meant for airliners and you are flying slower GA, you should anyway expedite your landing by using less flaps (if any) for a higher landing speed (real world I did this). If the airport has other runways and you can tolerate the crosswind, see if you can do this using a runway intersection hold short landing if permitted by the tower (again, real world I did this). Another technique is to touchdown further down the runway and exit ASAP to minimize your on runway taxiing. FS9 Config does allow you to adjust ai taxi speed on the runway and taxiways. However, if you speed these up to much it will look choppy and aircraft might skid off the taxiway on cornering so be gentle.
March 18, 201412 yr I'm one who uses both AI Smooth and AI Separation together with excellent results. Configured properly I get a smooth flow of traffic in and out with minimal go arounds or disappearing AI, and I don't have a bunch of planes circling for hours either. One other suggestion is not to try to run with 100% AI. Particularly if you're loaded up with WOAI and GA traffic. Drop the slider down to 50-60% and you'll have plenty of traffic and less of a crunch at the departure end of the runway. March 18, 201412 yr Jeff, what means "configured properly"? Could you show your settings? Thanks. Bernard
March 18, 201412 yr Hi, Sorry, it is AITP that controls the AI aircraft timeout. It's aitp10.zip. Both FS9 and FSX versions: http://library.avsim.net/search.php?SearchTerm=aitp-x&CatID=root&Go=Search Hope this helps, Tom Gibson CalClassic Propliner Page
March 18, 201412 yr Thanks, Tom. On the opposite side in part of this discussion you might want to look at the the traffic zapper function if you have a paid version of fsuipc3. (Those with RC4 may have it functional with RC's licensed features.) If you end up in a nose to nose taxi stall you might wish to "nuke" the traffic in front of your aircraft blocking you, especially if you extended the nuke time for ai.
March 19, 201412 yr Jeff, what means "configured properly"? Could you show your settings? Thanks. Bernard I set it up after looking through a tutorial I found online somewhere. Either here or on Flightsim, but I don't remember. Anyhow, I have a copy of it here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/dd2hyly8p4h2gn1/manual.zip I just started with this and tweaked a little from there. I'll try to get a shot of my settings a bit later when I'm not pressed for time. March 19, 201412 yr Thanks, Tom. I found a HexEdit solution to the "disappearing AI problem". This apparently increases the time that they spend standing still from 5 minutes to something like 17 minutes. I will have to monitor the situation with that though, just in case it causes other problems. March 19, 201412 yr To zap traffic I use the Traffic Tools SDK for FS9 and FSX. Just go to the Traffic Explorer, find it on the list, right click it, and choose Delete. Tom Gibson CalClassic Propliner Page
March 20, 201412 yr I'm one who uses both AI Smooth and AI Separation together with excellent results.I run AI Smooth (when I remember) but can't recall the benefits of running both? What are the differences between the two?
