March 19, 201412 yr I was doing a visual landing into EGLL last night and was cleared to land 27L using side slip on 27R. Is this an expected procedure? Was this because there is no ILS on 27L but, since I was visual, why would I care? Also, is there some correction required to the location of this airport? I was vectored to right on top of Heathrow and then cleared to land. Do I need to pick up the AFCAD files for UK2000 scenery? Be gentle, this is my first time flying in the UK sim space. Also, recommendations for good scenery? The stock stuff looks really, really bad from on high. Cheers! David Haynes
March 19, 201412 yr I don't know where you are flying, but, in the real-world, there isn't a side slip procedure at EGLL and it has ILS at 27L. Gerry Howard
March 19, 201412 yr Commercial Member Hi, It is called a 'sidestep' At Heathrow you would normally need to do that if the runway was blocked, not something you would see often since both runway's are constantly in use (one for departures the other for arrival) If an aircraft takes too long to vacate you would be asked to go around. Sounds like you are using a simplified ATC program. You should have been flying a STAR Scenery - UK2000 EGLL - http://www.uk2000scenery.com/newsite/My_Homepage_Files/Page17.html Orbx EU - https://fullterrain.com/product_eueng.html Always fly with charts, they are free.. http://www.nats-uk.ead-it.com/public/index.php%3Foption=com_content&task=blogcategory&id=94&Itemid=143.html Rob Prest
March 19, 201412 yr I'm sure that I have in the past been given a sidestep approach into EGLL too. IAN Ryzen 5800X3D, Nvidia RTX5080 - 32 Gig DDR4 RAM, 1TB & 2 TB NVME drives - Windows 11 64 bit MSFS 2024 Premium Deluxe Edition Resolution 2560 x 1440 (32 inch curved monitor)
March 21, 201412 yr Author Thanks everyone. I think I have a good handle on where to start my UK flying adventures now. Cheers! David Haynes
March 21, 201412 yr Yes, you definitely want to use something other than default scenery! Christopher Low AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPU / 64GB DDR5-6000 RAM / 12GB Nvidia RTX 4070 Super GPU / Gigabyte X870E Aorus Elite Wifi 7 / 1+2TB Samsung Evo Plus M2 Nvme UK2000 Beta Tester
March 21, 201412 yr Depends on what type of aircraft your using if your using a jet for example you wont see much from 30000 ft or so, but if you just using ga aircraft yes well worth getting scenery packages I7-8700k,Corsair h1101 cooler ,Asus Strix Gaming Intel Z370 S11 motherboard, Corsair 32gb ramDD4,, gtx 1080ti Card, RM850 power supply Peter kelberg
March 21, 201412 yr There's also a very good payware photoscenery available (Horizon), but my preference is with FTX England (ORBX) and the UK2000 airports. What happened to AVSIM

Only reason why I wouldn't purchase a scenery package is if I don't plan to fly over that region. Rob Prest
March 21, 201412 yr Or in my case, I fly "low and slow" at all times in an airliner! Christopher Low AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPU / 64GB DDR5-6000 RAM / 12GB Nvidia RTX 4070 Super GPU / Gigabyte X870E Aorus Elite Wifi 7 / 1+2TB Samsung Evo Plus M2 Nvme UK2000 Beta Tester

Couldn't agree more, I only fly airliners but the eye candy of fsx with payware scenery is what makes it what it is. Couldn't imagine not using things like ftx global, utx and payware airports.
March 21, 201412 yr I'm assuming sidestep means going for one runway and then changing to the other, that doesn't happen really unless there is a need to change runway. Aircraft do however sometimes get vectored to land on both runways at EGLL simultaneously, especially in the morning when it is busy. I use the new UK2000 EGLL V3, it's excellent! Lawrence Ashworth
