Anyone know if FSgenesis is worth anything for use with UTX?

UTX vector data isn't compatible with FTX Global vector night lighting. The two companies are direct competitors of each other and I wouldn't recommend mixing their products.

You can edit the scenery cfg file to make it so you can use the FTX Global night lighting with UTX. The thread is posted somewhere on this site. That is what I did and my night lighting is just fine.

My point was you can't use the two products natively with each other.

As you said, you had to hack a file to make them work. Who knows what else doesn't work between them without tweaking files and configs.

Got rid of UTX when I installed Vector and Global.  I used to love UTX, but I'm willing to wait for ORBX landclass program which I understand is coming soon.  Am I correct in this assumption?

Ok I am taking a stab at this. It seems ORBX is really nice. I have not committed to UTX. What pieces of ORBX in north America would I need to get something for now pretty nice with REX4 ASN? I am ready to go ahead and do one with this setup and nothing else for now. I can't give it to him until I know what to do if he has a problem any way. I like what I have seen with ORBX. I do not know if FTX global is all I need I will probably use Vector also. They have all these add on pieces. What would continental USA need to be good. Not including towns airports (the add on type).

Now the vector program might be different and have a totally different night lighting I dunno but I was just suggesting don't cross off UTX if you like the night lighting better with FTX Global because you can get them to work together fine. Again it's just a personal preference as I am very happy with both programs.

ORBX scenery for the US is basically pacific northwest, the rocky mountains, and they have a new northern California scenery. So if you live in those areas then that is awesome because there scenery is fantastic. If you don't though then you have a choice between FTX Vector and UTX. UTX is specifically designed for the USA so it's better than vector for the USA but if you are flying globally then vector is probably the better way to go.

I am not sure I understand UTX for the USA and FTX global can work together? I like them both also. Let me ask this a different way. Is ORBX not complete for the USA? Is it complete for any section of the earth? I really don't care I would need for him to practice in the Texas Oklahoma Louisiana Colorado Arkansas New Mexico Arizona areas at this point. Me I want to see the beautiful scenery where ever I feel like flying!!!! LOL I might try England today China tomorrow Africa next week. He will be in the central and southern areas of the USA for now. I think I found a good plane also what about an A2A  C172 trainer is that a good working model again for him?

As said in above post you cant have utx  and orbox  together without having  issues, if  you  choose orbox you cant go wrong with the the usa sceneries  that orbox has to offewr

If there are actual pilots on here please tell me what the best would be for my son. I would rather not give him anything at all than mess his schooling up. I hope that is a little clearer. If ORBX is the best for that so be it. If prepar3d is best so be it. If FSX with UTX fine. He has not yet attempted night landings and that is my concern. I love this stuff and will probably do lots of playing and changing but for him flight will be life and death. I want my son safe. I might should have asked this in the first place.

Airplanes are the safest way to travel, that is if you know how to fly one.

As for his safety; It would not be of my concern whatsoever any programs that change graphics, terrain textures, sky, cloud, etc. Really, this does not affect the safety of anyone, or performance, it only makes the sim look better.

Your son will be taught, and put, under challenging situations in full motion simulators, as you may already know, simulating an issue with the aircraft, i.e engine failure, stuck landing gear, etc. He should have been trained to deal with a type of emergency like this.

I cannot stress the following enough; some addons are not compatible with PREPAR3D. This includes some texture programs, and other addons/modifications. Most importantly, the aircraft may not be compatible.

Nighttime flights are the same, with, or without any programs, same as day is as day, with or without any programs.

I suggest that, with the information you have of addon graphics programs now, focus primarily on the aircraft add-on(s) that your son will be using, because it's what he's flying.

We can try to help, but ultimately, it's your call with what you want for your son.

Ok I have more information. He needs airports as much or more than lights at night. Is there anything that would cover at least Texas and Oklahoma with proper runways and maybe terminals. I am not as concerned with little airports but medium to large are important. He told me he could not land on dirt like use to in FS2004!!! So its a little easier. The only thing I have found is megascenery 2.0. Good bad any ideas? Mixed on top of ORBX or UTX GEX? I promise I will quit asking as soon as I can.

Dickens I appreciate the help. I finally think I have decided to get the flight1 UTX GEX Opus for him with A2A Cessna 172 trainer. The last part is why I went that way. I am in need of Texas airports lights at night come second at this point to correct runway on not tiny but small-medium, medium, to large airports.

P.S. If you only knew how much you have already helped. The thanks is to all of you.

I am not sure I understand UTX for the USA and FTX global can work together?

FTX global updates all the default landscapes and makes the autogen ground buildings look better and it has great night lighting. UTX adds in highways, roads, neighborhoods those types of things that I think make everything look amazing.

Now you can't use UTX and FTX Vector together because they basically accomplish the same type of stuff. The difference being Vector is a global program and UTX is for the USA. I do almost all my flying in the USA so UTX was the easy choice for me.

I use UTX and FTX Global together and I think my scenery looks amazing. This is also with the FTX Global night lighting which looks awesome.

Mega scenery or any photo scenery that I have seen has ZERO night lighting which is why I have not gotten any of it and also the seasons don't change. The A2A C172 is the best training plane I have come across.

When you say airport lights you mean the runways being lit up at night? Maybe there are some small airports that don't have night lighting but I would say medium to large airports all have runway night lighting. I have not landed at an airport that didn't have runway night lighting.

Yes the nightlight I was referring to was runways. We used to try landing at the airport here on one of the fs2002 or fs2004 and it is a medium size but it had no lights and dirt runway or looked that way.

Ok I think I understand about FTX global and UTX working together and not vector. What about mesh what ever forms the better mountains and valleys. I am confused about that part. That is one of the things I would like to have for him. The piece of the puzzle that would make the correct obstacles and heights for the rolling hills mountains and valleys.

FSGenesis for the terrain mesh, that's the only one I know out there I like. FSX has terrain meshes, though. And since you said he'd be flying Central North America, I don't think he'll come accross many mountains/hills.

As for runway lighting, every runway has lighting in FSX, I do know large airports (Miami, Orlando, LaGuardia, Ft. Worth, etc) have runway lights. (Not sure about small airports (less than 5000 ft runway length)). The runway lights also flash in sequence, beginning at the start of the runway, and then at the end, and then repeating. Also, the ALS is functional. (The Approach Lighting System  is a series of flashing lights next to the runway which assist the pilots in their landings in accordance to the aircraft's alignment to the runway, It will tell you if you need to shift left, right, descend, ascend, etc)

There are many many addon airports, just look up some and you'll most likely find on.

Will your son be moving into the large aircraft such as the Boeings' and Airbuses? (Important)
