Looking for another 777 flight tutorial

Featured Replies

Hi,

I've done several time the excellent PMDG Malé-Dubai tutorial by Ryan.

Until the SP1 is released, I would like to continue learning through a new flight.

Apparently there is no third-party written (pdf) tutorial flight for the PMDG 777 yet, freeware or payware. If available and reasonably priced, I am willing to buy.

So I was thinking about the old PSS777, searched Google hard but could not find any written complete step-by-step flight tutorial.

Maybe I should buy the Just Flight/PSS777 but I do not know if a tutorial flight is included?

Can you help please?

The PSS 777 is FS9 only. So you would "just" buy the PSS documentation for that price?!? And I can't confirm a tutorial for the download version, as I bought the box version, back in those days ... (The box version currently is 5.95 EUR ... but out of stock already!!!)

Instead, you may want to check the PFPX section of the Aerosoft forums: There's a two-story tutorial on ETOPS, PMDG B777 and PFPX available for free download.

Thanks for jumping in my thread, Oliver.

Yeah I know it sounds crazy to buy the FS9 PS777 only for the doc, but see the situation: nowadays most flight tutorials are videos... And I feel more comfortable with pdf to execute actions step-by-step, plus the fact fact I have ear problems.

I will enquiry with JustFlight to make sure a tutorial is included in the download version... or maybe I should wait for the box version if they re-issue it. As you own the box version, can you let me know if there is a complete flight tutorial and if it's good? How many pages? Is it printed or pdf?

By the way, browsing Google I came across this dead link: http://www.avsim.com/pss/manuals/PSS_B7

Does anybody know if it is a flight tutorial?

EDIT : I saw the PFPX two-story tutorial on ETOPS, it's more about flight planning, and does not have the flavour of PMDG step-by-step tutorial. Thanks for the hint though.

Tony, the "box tutorial" is 34 pages, starting from cold&dark. It's definitely a good one, but I somehow doubt, it can offer an added value to the PMDG tutorial (mind, there will be a 2nd PMDG tutorial some day). The box tutorial is printed and the print is o.k. for the introductory flight, and for describing the systems, gauges and stuff. The performance charts are a pain to read due to the format of the manual, though.

A re-issue of the box version seems highly unlikely to me: JF want to get rid of those boxes and a revitalization of FS9, well ...

A quick search brought up this document, but, IMO, it's really superficial:

You can have a look into my touch & go training videos! It's not written, but it's good material anyway. At least it's original in that it covers something that nobody really talks about, which is touch & goes on an airliner.

I highly recommend this option. Here's the link:

These two pdfs are outstanding. Not a tutorial like you asked, but great reads to really improve your knowledge. I also recommend Kyle Rodgers' youtube channel and the stuff you should know vids. Again, not 777 flight examples, but good stuff to review, especially prior to the SP1 / weather radar release.

Anyone found a good guide on non-ILS approach landing?

Not quite sure what you mean.  If it's not an ILS, you have to land it yourself.  A landing is a landing.  You land it just like any other plane.

ILS landing is almost fully automated where the system lines up my aircraft with the runway and glides it touch down.

Sometimes ATC instructs me to use a runway that does not have ILS, and I struggle to manually land the aircraft, especially without a yoke ;)  Hence, I would like a tutorial on how to use navaids with LNAV and possibly VNAV too to land on such runways (with no ILS).

Hope I have explained myself better.

Cheers, Harry

Practice practice practice (and buy a yoke - keyboard is no way to fly)

Not gonna happen.  The aircraft (and the approaches) aren't designed to do that.  Sure, you might be able to do it, but I might be able to cut down a tree with a kitchen knife, too...

On top of Kyle's video, you want to watch this one as well to get your theory right:

And on this video I manually fly the aircraft on a visual pattern around the airport, full manual. Link here.

Hey, it's kinda cool to use videos as answers. It's kinda like "Boom! That's that. Next question?"
