June 12, 201411 yr Apologies if this has been discussed before. But I'm trying to find a list of settings that have the most impact on fps. So far it looks line the #1 item on this list is cloud shadows. Any others that the tweak maestro's here can divulge. Just got ORBX CYSE last night and am trying to tweak the system to get max fps. At the below settings I am usually able to sustain 30fps in most of the areas, but CYSE is not cooperating. 4770k @4.5 2560x1600 fps Titan BLACK -boost clock 1020 ASN with 3 layer tweak Cloud shadows off 4x multi + 4xSGAA Track IR Ezdok AM 125 PRIORITY HIGH FPS locked at 30 VSYNC + Triple buffering enabled
June 12, 201411 yr I've noticed that the AA setting can make a big difference for me in places. Specifically dropping down to 2X instead of 4x when I'm struggling. ...all this said it's frustrating the performance isn't better with some of these awesome machines we all have here.
June 12, 201411 yr I have the same system as you. Absolutely no problem with cloud shadows. However, I run photoscenery exclusively. Now, Ultra water? That's different. Mark

Mark Hi Mark Are u saying you are running water set at ultra or you are not? Ive never messed with the water settings much but have always kept it at ultra.
June 13, 201411 yr Yeah, I'd drop the AA down to 2xsgaa .....and turn the cloud shadows on. ....Oh, and don't forget to delete your shader file. June 13, 201411 yr Yeah, I'd drop the AA down to 2xsgaa .....and turn the cloud shadows on. ....Oh, and don't forget to delete your shader file. Agreed. I'm usually able to enjoy the cloud shadows being on if I stick to 2x AA Assume all are doing the AA in the SIM and not externally in NI or Control Panel, correct?
June 13, 201411 yr I have the same system as you. Absolutely no problem with cloud shadows. However, I run photoscenery exclusively. Now, Ultra water? That's different. Mark Is that to mean no autogen trees or buildings or anything? (On X-Plane you can use AutoGen with PhotoScenery)
June 13, 201411 yr Author Agreed. I'm usually able to enjoy the cloud shadows being on if I stick to 2x AA Assume all are doing the AA in the SIM and not externally in NI or Control Panel, correct? SGAA can only be done through NI
June 13, 201411 yr Turbine we have almost the same system try this in your ni - also set fps slider in p3d to 38fps - I have eliminated stutters finally and also here is my p3d.cfg entries only these TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=200 - change this to 200 - really helps a lot with loading terrain day and night performance ====================================================================================== [JOBSCHEDULER] AffinityMask=84 [bufferPools] UsePools=0 These numbers would be different for you as I have 4 cores and HT off - buffer pools 0 for me was a must Settings in p3d menu Now I have not added any AI settings yet as I have been having an OC issue on cold starts - trying to sort that out - I think I have now but will not know until more cold starts - anyway try this I think it will work well Oh I have dumped precision tool - it does not work well with a titan - I was getting an out of memory message - dumped it and problem was solved - get rid of it - its crap - sorry Mitch no go on titans FYI aircraft used for testing was Alabeo Cardnial - AXE is next - hopefully it will work well with these settings Rich Sennett
June 13, 201411 yr Rich, four cores and HT off.. OK, but why AM=84? That is for HT on... Bert
June 13, 201411 yr Hi yah Bert - tried it both ways and dam its just better this way - dont know why but it is noticeably better Keep in mind that 38 on fps slider is for my monitor - you will have to play with that setting for yours Rich Sennett
June 13, 201411 yr This worries me as I'm about to build a computer very similar to the OP and it sounds like still it will not run the ORBX regions without FPS issues? I thought a Titan and his processor would chew through ORBX and P3D with ease. My 560 and i7 2700K seem to maintain 30 fps in P3D without any issues so I was hoping his setup would just double that. Is there still issues even with a modern hi end cpu still running P3D? Should I hold off another six months and let LM refine the performance? Thanks for any help. Sean Green
June 13, 201411 yr "it sounds like still it will not run the ORBX regions" ======================================================= I am running global and vector and I have not loaded any regions yet but should be no problem The problem is detailed aircraft such as the aerosoft airbus it takes more horse power for that - as I have a stutter free setup now - I will test the AXE tomorrow - also AXE is not intended for P3D anyway - the new 318 -319 first and updating the 320-321 a bit later so the jury is still out on that but as far as carenado stuff or similar ftx regions should not be a problem in P3D - but the titan is a must especially with high res monitors - I would bet if I was running anything lower that 2560 x 1440 I would be smoking in P3D - when g-sync comes out I may not get a monitor with that high resolution ================================================================ "Is there still issues even with a modern hi end cpu still running P3D?" Yes but you have to consider that there is more eye candy which does take a toll on the cpu - as they have used the gpu to take more of the load - that will help a lot and sli may just knock it out of the park ================================================================ "Should I hold off another six months and let LM refine the performance?" Not sure its very usable now and looks great - not to far from being much better than fsx in many ways - if it was crap I would have dumped it - you have to give it a couple of weeks to get it up and running before giving up Looking at your pc it would be ok but you would need to get an ssd hard drive and a much better video card if you want to have a good running simulator Rich Sennett
June 13, 201411 yr Hi Mark Are u saying you are running water set at ultra or you are not? Ive never messed with the water settings much but have always kept it at ultra. No. It gets just a bit stuttery with water at ultra for me. However, I brought textures over from FEX so that May have something to do with it.Is that to mean no autogen trees or buildings or anything? (On X-Plane you can use AutoGen with PhotoScenery) Have never been interested in autogen and love the performance boost. The real upshot for me is that during the day, above 2k feet, scenery looks exactly as it is....not someone's rendition of what they think it looks like. During night flights, photoscenery gets turned off and I go with stock terrain. Works for me.
