Keep Killing the GSX ground mechanic

Recommended Posts

Wonder if someone can help me.

After pushbuck using GSX, the ground pushback chap waves at me and wishes me a good flight and then wanders off, but then as soon as I start my taxi, I hear a voice the ground mechanics voice and then my co-pilot saying I've killed the ground mechanic. What am I doing wrong?

Hi,

you need to tell the MCE ground mechanic that he is dismissed from his duties. The GSX "Rampie" is separate from our MCE "Mechanic".

Normally you establish contact saying, "Ground from flight deck". Then go about the duties. Pushback etc.

Then when you are ready for taxy, say "Mechanic you may disconnect now" or "ground mechanic you may leave now, Thanks".

If you are using Sven as the MCE ground mechanic, if you run him over he will get very annoyed and if you speak Swedish you will understand why!

Regards

David

I am curious, what is the other software package that you are using besides GSX? I use GSX but have never had a report of killing the ground guy, which frankly I found hillarious. How did you do it?

Thank you for that information. I have been thinking about MCE for a while now because I'm lookiing for vox for ATC. I may give this a try. No, I don't plan to kill a bunch of simulated ground crew, I just think that it's funny that the simulation keeps such a close track of what you are doing that you can.

Fly on!

Daniel, from memory ( I am not in front of my machine) there is now an option for the MCE Ground mechanic to hand over to the GSX Ground Crew as soon as they are called up. So when you call "Cockpit to Ground" and the "Request Pushback to the Left/Right)" your MCE crew will "call up" the GSX crew and he will tell you he is handing over and then he avoids being "run over"....which I have done myself on numerous occasions (reading the checklists??? what is that?  LOL)

I have also heard of people who have added a command to the after pushback sequence to make sure the MCE mechanic disengages before taxi....lots of options.

Great! Now developers can create FSX-Ambulance which will rush the mechanic to FSX-Hospital (sold separately). The P3D version will also have HD Lighting on the ambulance but will sell for 67% higher.

Hi Will,

Is this automatic, because I have been getting GSX to do the pushback for me. Its only after the pushback and I start taxi that I can't the warning telling me something terrible has happened!

hi Daniel,

No it is not automatic, it is a selection you need to make in the main MCE panel....I will turn it on tonight and let you know how I set mine up.

Ok, just had a look, in the General Tab, go to More Options, Deselect the option "Keep Mech On Push"...that is all...I think the kind folk at MCE felt sorry for the poor Mechanics...

Thanks very much Will. I think I did have that checked so I'll uncheck it and see how I get on!

Will, to clarify a few points I see on my system. (stressed My System others may have experienced different things);

The MCE "keep mechanic on push" is always unchecked.

I always need to dismiss him, by either verbally saying ;-

Mechanic you may disconnect now.

ground mechanic you may leave now, Thanks.

Or by typing those commands into a Vox Script and enabling verbose option or using the Notify command, so I know what's been said.  If I don't do this he gets the chop when I taxi. Never when I push back, just at taxi. So I must release him at pre taxi.

I have never been able to get the MCE mechanics (Andrew, Andy, Clive William, me, Lorna Trav) to speak or interface to the Rampies responsible for GSX, namely, Simon, Jane etc.

The Rampies are responsible for the GSX on screen commands, namely, Boarding, de boarding, re fuelling, catering and prepare for push back and departure. This last item selects a sub menu for push back to the left or right.

The MCE mechanics mentioned above only do the GPU connect/disconnect, cargo doors close/open. They never do push back via GSX. Or at least not on my system.

The following typical conversation occurs:-

"Ground from cockpit"

"What can I do for you captain"

"Mechanic please begin pushback" or " Mechanic pushback to the left"

F/O " Need to start engines" or another phrase about need to wait for ground procedures to complete.

There is no push back and no interface with GSX.  I sit there like a dummy!

MCE mechanic never gets the GSX Rampie to do anything for him/her. Perhaps he never bought them a drink? There is certainly no communication going on!

I see there is a MCE GUI check box for "interface with AES". I don't use AES anymore, perhaps MCE Mechanics can talk to the AES guys, have better beer, ( the Aussie Lager is nice) or have the correct radio frequencies

I hope this helps anyone with my experiences.  If its my stupid PC then fine! Come to mention it, I always use the GSX on screen menu anyway for push back. My procedure flows vary so much as per airport and airline protocols.

Certain airports do not permit a gate start. Some prohibit an APU start and you need the GPU (MCE Tech here) Some times I start one engine, push back and start the other engines during or after push back. So I invariably use the GSX onscreen menu.  Or there is much sitting around like a complete dork!

Oh and since GSX wont allow a push back, hook up to Tug, with engines running,  there has to be a tow tug link up before engine start or your borked!

Anyway, that's my experience.

Best regards to all,

Enjoy the hobby. ^_^

David.

Hi Dave,

My setup is the same as yours.

A couple of key things....when you load up your aircraft, engines off, parking brake on are MUST-DO.

Once these are done, start MCE.

The interface with GSX should then start, and you will hear the ramp officer introduce himsef/herself.

If this step doesn't occur, I find the interraction has not been initailised properly.

If it does occur, you are good to go and it all works swimmingly.

I used to have to alter the mce.ini file to ensure interaction with GSX, have not had to do that with the latest version but it may be something else to try.

Hi Will,

Yup, same start up!

Engines off, Park Brake on, Simon intones his greeting, I ask MCE Mech for push back and he pops up the GSX menu and the de boarding menu is selected. First Officer then warns that "engines need to be started"...Errr... No madam or the GSX Tug wont attach and in the Turbo Prop, we will definitely slice an dice the mechanics!!!

So what ever the MCE ini addition is I may look at?

Don t get me wrong, I can get any number of push back scenarios with MCE Vox Sript and GSX. But the MCE Mechanic never worked for me so I just use him to do the cargo doors and the GPU! Oh and dismiss him before Taxi...Unless you enjoy hearing the different swearing options with all the different mechs...Svens is the best...Its Wallander.. :P

All can be seen in my last video. At about 01.10 I ask MCE Mech for pushback, he selects GSX menu item for de boarding and FO has a hissy!

Which was fun to make and has an interesting ending........Given whats goin to go on in September:rolleyes:

Best Regards

David.
