MTX 5.4c change to 5.4 b database

Featured Replies

Hi simmers i got MTX recently how do i go back to the 5.4 b database it came as 5.4 c but i've read you can change the schedule to 2012 5.4 b

Thanks

Vernon Howells

Start the MyTraffic X Configurator and select the Autumn 2012 schedule under the Select Schedules drop down list. The Autumn 2012 schedule is basically 5.4b.

Thanks but i can't switch it because for some reason my OS7 is denying it i have tried everything to make it work.

This is the error -

my traffic x windows cannot access the specified device path or file. you may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item

Driver 170, if you look in the directory of MyTraffic, you will see that the buttons on the GUI just call up a .bat file.  Like if you want to switch to the 2012 traffic file, it is obvious that the GUI just calls up the file Traffic2012.bat.  If you are getting a windows path or permission error when trying to change schedules from the GUI, what would happen if you just tried to run the batch file manually by clicking on it?  I haven't a clue why your installation of MyTraffic seems to be so screwed up, but this is just something that if I were getting your error, I would do.

Vernon,

This is one reason, probably the main reason, why you are having so many problems with your computer and FSX. Everyone tells you to disable UAC and anti-virus programs when installing new stuff and to leave UAC disabled and to run things as an Administrator but you are not getting the messages/suggestions? Windows Vista originally set up extra security measures as XP and earlier operating system users were complaining that they were being hacked or a virus hit them and they couldn't stand it that Windows did this to them. They were mad.... real mad. So, Microsoft techies said, "Okay. If you want to blame us, we'll throw in even more security so that these evil hackers can't hit you with malicious attacks unless you tell them, 'okay, you have my permission to attack my computer'. You may not be able to run your software properly, especially, older software, but we have protected you from the evil people in the world and, if you get a virus or malicious attacks, it will be your fault, not ours." (or words to that effect). Well, those who used Vista got really mad as the security was just too much and it made Vista seem "buggy" so Microsoft came up with relaxed controls in Windows 7 and 8 (Source - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_Account_Control). When you disable User Access Controls (UAC), you have given Windows permission to go ahead and allow software to be installed and give you (the user) permission to run it properly. If you enable UAC, then Windows will ask you for permissions like, "hey, can I run the 2012 schedules?" and you might say, "this could be a bug. Maybe I better say no" (don't worry, it will ask again if you say no until you succumb to them and say "yes, run them!!"). Sometimes you have to go the extra mile and open up your directories and go to the FSX directory and see if it is being shared with your computer system (uh, the main computer Administrator; the person who really controls your system). So, no longer can you just sit there in front of your computer and install software. You have to take extra measures in many cases to get your software to install properly and to run properly. UAC controls are just one measure and that may be enough but if you have a FSX addon that is not shared with your computer administrator, it may not work properly. PMDG has an excellent installation guide which I know you have seen. (I believe AVSIM might come up with some suggestions for installing FSX and FSX addons in future updates to the AVSIM FSX/P3D Configuration Guide or the AVSIM CTD Guide (maybe both) as AVSIM is jealous, real jealous of the excellent PMDG guide ). This is why many have absolutely no problems installing and running FSX and FSX addons but so many just cannot get it to run properly and see a lot of CTD's. They don't understand the philosophy of User Accesses, Administrators and anti-virus programs. The anti-virus developers have everyone so scared they will get a virus if they turn down or turn off any feature when installing software, even safe stuff like FSX or FSX Gold or known developers like PMDG, FSDT, Aerosoft, FTX/Orbx, etc. (or even running a piece of software). Of course the anti-virus developers need to do this to keep their company's operating and in business and their shareholders happy. This is why many will see "false-positives" type viruses on their system when installing, say, a FSDT addon. They forgot to disable their anti-virus program first! But, you must remember anti-virus programs are made for non-computer experts so they have instant security for non-geeks (personally I don't use an anti-virus program but backup my personal documents like photos just in case a virus/malware gets through my firewall and I don't install software from unknown sources).

Another major feature for installation of software to make it run trouble-free (okay, trouble-free might be a bad word but it is fairly accurate) is to right click the software's installation program and select "Run as Administrator". This way the Administrator of your computer will allow things to run properly (I know! I know! You are the Administrator if you are the only user but there IS another Administrator working in the background that 'approves' things and he's bigger than you are). This is why many recommend that you go to the FSX.exe program in your main fsx directory and right click the program and select Properties. Then at the bottom (Privilege Level), you want to make sure under the compatibility tab that it states "Run this program as an administrator" ALL the time. You can right click the FSX startup icon ON YOUR DESKTOP too each time you start up FSX and select "Run as Administrator" (this will not work if you have the icon pinned to your taskbar at the bottom of your desktop). Same goes with any installation of an addon to FSX/P3D. Right click the install software and select, 'run as administrator'. This way the main computer Administrator knows what's going on and installs it properly so that it will run properly as the developer of the software intended. Here's more info on this - http://www.7tutorials.com/how-run-programs-administrator-windows-7 (or windows 8).

I just want to emphasize that the suggestion to install FSX/FSX addons in a non-default folder, like C:\FSX, does not mean you do not have to do any of the above. It's still very important!!

I hope this helps.

Also set fsx the way you mentioned too by selecting run as admin in the folder also setup full control! Same goes to all addons.

Is it still ok to run fsx and addons by creating a shortcut on the desktop....

Yes... but for your own sanity make sure that everything is set to run as administrator

Maddog is that my communicator in MTX folder you are referring to mate?

Yes, it needs to be set to run as admin otherwise it cannot call the batch files.

Been down that road soon as it gets added it appears blank in the scenery window in fsx

Vernon Howells

Click on the blank white space as advised in that post and it will work. If you are still stuck and you need pictures search Youtube for a tutorial video.

Cheers, Andy.
