GTX770 2GB or 4GB & memory bandwidth

Recommended Posts

I posted this exact thread a couple pages back a couple months ago. I went with the EVGA gtx770 2gb and am running a 40" led Samsung TV and a 19" LCD monitor for gauges occasionally. When running the TV alone I haven't had any issues at all being able to handle anything in fsx performance wise.

I am only running REX4, active Sky Next, FTX global, Wilco CRJ next gen currently. I have it on a 4790k system though and it seems bulletproof even in dense cities.

I wouldn't see a reason where the 4gb would benefited me at all, even when running the 19" too. The FPS definitely drop down with a second screen but it still runs smooth.

I'd buy the cheapest available GTX970. Less power. Less expensive. More memory.  More performance.  More futureproof (DX12).  A no-brainer really.

Honestly, get the current best of all worlds - the EVGA GTX 780 6 GB version

Well I'm certainly keeping an eye on the prices of GTX7## series cards given that the GTX9## are on the scene. Perhaps around £350 is the most I want to spend on a GPU.

I'm really not one for grabbing the latest and greatest new PC hardware ASAP! I prefer to wait and get a better deal. Anyway I'm not ruling anything out.

OK my brain us melting here! I don't have the budget for a 6BG GTX780 even with the price drops right now. I'm leaning very much towards the GTX780, my thinking being that if I find that I need more memory then I'd be better off going for a GTX970 in the future rather than getting a 4GB GTX770 now.

With the price drop I am considering selling my gtx770 on eBay and getting a gtx780 for cheaper than I bought the 770.

Right now I'm seeing prices for non-OC GTX780s as low as about £227! It's becoming very difficult to justify spending over £300 on a GTX780 (unless it's got 6GB VRAM) given that GTX970s are starting at around £250. The EVGA Classified that I was looking at is still way over £300.

If I went for the reference GX780 I think I'd always be thinking about the GTX780Ti:

210.6GT/s vs 160.5GT/s texture fill rate = +31%

336GB/s vs 288.4GB/s memory bandwidth = +17%

But is it worth £90 more???

The more I look at the EVGA GTX780 Classified the more I like their SC edition! A GTX780 over £300 just doesn't make sense to me.

Is a stock GTX970 really better than a GTX780 for around £250? For flight sim wouldn't the main advantage be the 4GB VRAM? Right now I'm very temped to go for that GTX780Ti if there's a further price drop.

This is kind of a general site but interesting nonetheless... not sure about differences for FSX or P3D

No OC , 980 , 780Ti , 970, 780, Titan.

The titan have very low std clock both on gpu and mem.

OC . 980 , 780Ti, Titan , 970,780.

The 980 have more headrom for OC PowerTarget 125% for example and generate less heat than 780Ti quite big difference both on core and mem.

Titan have good mems and good OC on core , 970 is a good OC:er but only Powertarget to 108-112 depending on brand.

780 sucks vid very bad mems Its not even close to the Titan and 970 OC:d.

Its My personal thougts after testing this Cards , a own 980 , 780Ti Matrix and Titan the 970 , 780 was testsamples .
