August 27, 201411 yr Well ... this is a series to show where in the world my Cessna Caravan is. Currently it is in EDDN, Nuremberg. After a (quite) long period it will be back in Nuremberg. In the meantime it will be flown around the world to many interesting and challenging airfields (e.g. Lukla etc.). As I find it boring to fly automatically (sitting there and watching the plane being controlled by an FMS or autopilot), I chose this nice Caravan, as it is able to land almost everywhere in the world. The rough planning is to land at 44 stations, which are along a route of ca. 50,000 km. Possibly I will add more stations with interesting airfields, what will make the route even longer, but I haven't set a finish date for this round the world trip. Stay tuned ...Start in Nuremberg Over Nuremberg - the football (soccer stadium to the left, the railway main station bottom right, ...) Somewhere over Bavaria Approach to Salzburg (LOWS) - below the small village Oberheining Final approach After 59 min of flight landed at the first station of a long journey. Stay tuned ... August 27, 201411 yr Nice shots! I don't "own" a Caravan, but I certainly leave Caravan's owned by others all over the place in FSEconomy (I do own the Carenado Caravans) Aaron Thacker

August 30, 201411 yr Author Glad, you like it B). I toned the colors a bit down, but see for yourself ... August 31, 201411 yr Now that is a detailed airport! Some Google-fu suggests that this is Aerobridge's handiwork, but there isn't much info on their site. Hope they haven't gone the way of the dodo. AVSIM Blog: The Big Tour: A Ridiculously Ambitious Trip Around the World
September 6, 201411 yr Author Ok ... next leg of the trip. Start in Portoroz with nice mediterrean weather. Over Croatia. Some clouds, but still nice weather and according to the forecast it shouldn't change. View from the cockpit. SkyMaxx Clouds feel so real when flying next to them - the sensation of speed is great. Below the airport of Zadar (LDZD) - in the background some picturesque Croatian islands. That's the reason why I like so much flying along this coast - the Croatian islands are fascinating. Behind the hills in front of us is the airport of Split. It is very calm and I asked the tower, if I may approach over the hills to rwy 23. Permission granted - yesss. Some time ago, I already flew to Split with the Zenair CH 650 (a small and light GA aircraft). The approach was still challenging. Whew! That's high ... But that's what I like - approaching an airport via the 3°-ILS is ... . The city of Split - to the left, the hills. We can see that they are quite high (according Google Earth up to 1900 ft). Some altitude "won", thanks to slipping ...but somewhat more painful than with the Zenair. Here I wasn't yet sure, whether I would make it. Some more altitude "killed" - but still not sure if it's sufficient. Looks good now - kinda like the Sarajevo Approach. Actually no problem ... Not even the second exit was a problem ... End of a flight after 1:22 h. The coming flights will be longer - especially at the other end of the world (Pacific) My sceneries (excerpt): LPMA Madeira (XPFR), LGSR Santorini, LRBV Brasov, the city of Fürth (Germany), several libraries, ...
September 10, 201411 yr Moderator That's the reason why I like so much flying along this coast - the Croatian islands are fascinating. I was in Croatia by Zadar during the summer Island hoping and meant to download the areas to see what it looks like from XPX. Looks great, so will go and grab that now
September 14, 201411 yr Author After an overnight stay the wind has changed and I'm starting into the opposite direction than for the landing. The bay of Split. Above the rudder the grey line of the runway is still visible, when watching close. Along the coast - the hills are fairly high for the fact that they are this close to the coast. To the right (above the cowling): Mostar in Bosnia-Herzegowina Somewhere along the Macedonian coast Clouds above Albania ... ... which are the offshoot of a thunderstorm in the Southern Adria During the flight through the clouds, the radar altitude gauge alarmed me. After climbing to 11,000 ft and leaving the clouds I knew, why. The northernmost end of Corfu Above the red switch in the cockpit: LGKR. But I didn't expect this kind of weather in Greece ... To the left (the small dark "dirt" on the screen ): the ferry from Igoumenitsa (Greek mainland) to Lefkimmi (Corfu) In the base leg to LGKR Turning in ... Final approach Finshed for today - after 2:05 h of flight My sceneries (excerpt): LPMA Madeira (XPFR), LGSR Santorini, LRBV Brasov, the city of Fürth (Germany), several libraries, ...
September 19, 201411 yr Author After a 4 hours stay (with sightseeing in Corfu city) the clouds are gone and I'm starting towards ... you will see <_< Nice sunshine and I'm saying "jassu" (=goodbye) to Corfu. BTW "Jassu" means "hello", too Again ... clouds - but fortunately not too many of them Meanwhile the sun is setting, but as "compensation" we see gorgeous lighting effects Still above the Greek mainland (to be correct Peloponnes, even if we don't see it) - the afterglow appears Above the sea - finally the clouds cleared away But with Mykonos in sight (the lights of Mykonos city already visible) the clouds reappear - still an impressive view The island of Tinos (never heard of this one before <_<, but there are so many of them in the Aegaen). We can also see the ferry from Athens to Tinos below the plane But my destination is Mykonos, so I'm heading towards LGMK Turning into the approach Landed ... The airport of Mykonos - one of the 2 payware airports I plan to visit on my world tour (more than 50 stations are planned, but the planning is still subject to change) End of the flight after 1:57h (thanks to around 25 knots tailwind) My sceneries (excerpt): LPMA Madeira (XPFR), LGSR Santorini, LRBV Brasov, the city of Fürth (Germany), several libraries, ...
September 21, 201411 yr Author After an overnight stay, the weather is sunny now and I'm starting on rwy 34. Below the plane Mykonos city. After only 20 minutes the next destination is already visible. Guess which one ... Oia, a place where every evening thousands of people are waiting for the romantic sunset above the sea. The cruise ships already arrived ... Perissa - one of the two bathing resorts in Santorini. Approach - there are a lot of unfinished houses like the one to the right on this island. The observation deck of the airport. This is how a typical small Greek island airport usually looks like ... The trip is not yet finished here - a sightseeing flight is still to come. The second bathing resort on Santorini - Kamari. Fortunately there aren't huge concrete hotels on the island, all buildings are max. 2 floors high. On top of the hill called Mesa Vouno there are ruins of Ancient Thera. Thira, the "capital" of Santorini. Here we can see the church Ypapanti and at bottom right the hotel "Atlantis". It is the oldest and one of the most exclusive on the island. Apropos Atlantis: according to some theories, Santorini is (and respectively was) actually this legendary city. Landing on one of the cruise ships (possible in the next update of the scenery). Thira from below. On the trail tourists from the cruise ships are transported up the hill with donkeys and mules. Alternatively they take the teleferic (to the left). Below the helo - the hotel where I had my stay this and last year. Even the pool is there (no wonder, I have placed it there myself ). Still Thira - with some tree plantages. Flight almost finished ... But the I have planned more action for today ... The marina of Vlichada - now you know what is planned ^_^. The Hydroptère - a trimaran which held the speed world record for sailing between 2007 and 2012. In the caldera, passing the cruise ships. The lighthouse at Cape Akrotiri. Passing Perissa ... ... where some parasailers have fun (in the next update of the scenery). Hope you also had fun on this trip B). October 5, 201411 yr Author Ok ... this time it will be a longer leg - first I will head East, later Southeast. Anyway, first a lot of sea ... The island Syrna (Greece) Rhodes in sight At the left wing, the international airport Diagoras (LGRP). In "front" of the plane - the older airport of Rhodes, called Maritsa. It is still in use, but for car races and model aircraft demonstration. From Rhodes, I'm flying Southeast. The sun is shining, but it's hazy - the view is some kind of boring At least some clouds for variety Cyprus in sight The airport of Paphos A little bit of sea traffic. The small white spot is a sailing boat. Sailing so far away from the coast ... I'm feeling better being in the air <_<. The Promised Land - Israel - appears in the haze Approach towards LLBG - Ben Gurion airport in Tel Aviv Shortly before touchdown One more flight accomplished Am I really at the right airport? <_< Whew! - yes it's the Ben Gurion airport. Flight duration was 3:23 h with 1070 lbs of fuel burned. My sceneries (excerpt): LPMA Madeira (XPFR), LGSR Santorini, LRBV Brasov, the city of Fürth (Germany), several libraries, ...
