March 16, 201511 yr Author Talkeetna scenery full package update: [Download full version] v0.6 - 250mb Since the few remaining mipmaps issues are not really a problem, here is a first version of the new full package of the scenery, including all the buildings (easier to download). Thanks a lot to all the models creators who accepted to share their work on this single package: Levi, NewS, KW71, M7, AnimatedSyn, Mori and Planets ! Edit: gnuuu - coffee - need sleep - thanks HiFlyer...
March 16, 201511 yr Ok, I see the links are corrected, now. Thanks Acetone! Size should be listed as 250mb We are all connected..... To each other, biologically...... To the Earth, chemically...... April 15, 201511 yr Moderator Has someone placed all of those buildings by hand or is there now an SDK or method to do it outside of the application? (I've been waiting for an official SDK and Mac OS version for ages)
April 15, 201511 yr He Placed Them By Hand!! (Yes, he's crazy) I actually think the developers would benefit from working with you directly, if you were both willing, to develop their OSM capabilities. April 15, 201511 yr Author Has someone placed all of those buildings by hand or is there now an SDK or method to do it outside of the application? (I've been waiting for an official SDK and Mac OS version for ages) Hi Tonywob, Yep, I placed every building, road and local terrain leveling by hand. There is an album of the project progress here, pictures start from the first runway placement, to the current status of the scenery. By the way, thanks a lot for allowing Levi to port your model library into Outerra, this scene only use World2Xplane models, and the performance levels are astonishing! Apparently, the TitanIM project requires a way to import datasets in the engine, so we should be able to add roads vectors and building position without having to do everything by hand at some point. There is no ETA, so considering the current priority projects in Outerra (extended controls and new road system), I guess we shouldn't expect something before the next year...
April 18, 201511 yr Moderator Yep, I placed every building, road and local terrain leveling by hand. There is an album of the project progress here, pictures start from the first runway placement, to the current status of the scenery. That takes some serious patience, hats off to you :-). It's a pity I can't clone you and get you to help out on X-Plane/World2XPlane objects.
April 18, 201511 yr Author That takes some serious patience, hats off to you :-) Thanks! I don't have X-plane to test it, but every screenshot I see of your work shows an incredible level of quality It's a pity I can't clone you and get you to help out on X-Plane/World2XPlane objects. Isn't majority of the process based on existing datasets? I haven't dug too much into how your scenery are created, but I thought most of the work was done with a fine use of OSM data and precise autogen tweaks. There is some stuff I hope to be able to do in Outerra some day, like a quick way to create large fields areas when we will have a more advanced terrain tool. Even if they can't really manage to make a global OSM import API, I believe that with some additional tools, it could be possible to do something with a good quality level. I know they are working on interesting stuff in this field, so it may be possible at some point to get good results. But I swear that if I get a field option and rivers/lake vectors support, I will already be the happiest man on earth

Yes, it uses OSM, but also I have private versions which combine several datasets together, e.g. the GB Pro scenery I did for the UK or a Eastern European scenery I'm currently working on. However, the hard part is getting artwork for regionalisation. When W2XP places buildings, it does so by region, e.g. Spanish houses in Spain, UK houses in the UK. Creating the models for X-Plane is really time consuming (especially obtaining legal photographs for textures) and I've found it very difficut to get anyone to help out (even just to go out and get photographs in their local town). So basically, most of the world (Apart from the UK, Germany and Poland) looks the same with generic European models. The projected started out promising with several people willing to help, but people get bored quickly and move on. Unfortunately, W2XP is more or less dead in terms of development due to lack of help :(. There is a large amount of modders/artists working on Outerra (and even other simulations such as Euro Truck Simulator, etc) but sadly nobody wants to team up for X-Plane.
