October 9, 201411 yr Oh what a dream this would be to fly in FSX, with all systems modelled in depth. My all time favourite airliner, actually no, OBJECT on this planet. Truly beautiful! October 9, 201411 yr Selling pretty well as compared to...? I don't know anyone's sales numbers, but you're comparing a different market sector (GA) here. They might be doing well for themselves with those products, but that doesn't mean that their projects would get them the same amount of profit that PMDG might get from one of their offerings. haha, I was just joking, Kyle. All I meant is that non-FMC planes still sell

October 10, 201411 yr I'm still beside myself that nobody has come out with a decent blimp simulator!! Adrian Brown

October 11, 201411 yr I don't think its the right direction for PMDG, a Falcon 7X however would bring something completely new, modern, popular and the would cover the business jet sector we didn't get with the 737. Short and long flights would be realistic a we could keep it away from FPS hogging airports which is the main reason I fly the 737 far more than the bigger tubes. -Iain Watson-
October 11, 201411 yr I used the 'Addictive' version which was fine in FS9 but only a 'port over' for FSX which was a shame as it contained all the airlines that used the VC-10. It was a joy to fly and like so many more also a shame that PMDG don't consider what we want and it was an airliner initially. EDIT: I was forgetting, It doesn't use an FMC. The Addictive version is probably one of the worst a/c in FS9 and even more so in FSX. It's a perfect example of how not to do a VC cockpit as well. It's engine performance is excessive and it has bare instrumentation. Compare that to David Maltby's Free model though despite being a 2D cockpit is eons ahead of the addictive. A new wide screen version is coming on avsim soon with almost 1,000 gauges compared to the original 140!! October 11, 201411 yr scandinavian13, on 09 Oct 2014 - 3:28 PM, said: As it stands, though, with an aircraft that saw limited commercial exposure, with only 54 units built...? That was because of politics. The then Chairman of BOAC (Boeing Only Aircraft Corporation) Sir Charles Guthrie did everything he possibly could to destroy the British aircraft industry. And was forced (no, Ordered) by Parliament to buy British. To say he was disliked is an understatement. The VC10 despite having only 54 built is a very important aircraft in the evolution of aviation. It was absolutely at the cutting edge. The first passenger jet to have super critical wings and thus was unable to super stall compared to all other T tailed a/c of the time. It is also regarded as being the first FBW aircraft because of its complex split systems. Vickers applied a belt and braces approach to every system in the a/c. Much of what was developed on the VC10 went into Concorde. Therefore for FS it is extremely difficult to model in that respect. A tiny example being the anti-ice switch. On the 10 instead one has to model an entire panel merging two different airflows through the ducts with different temperatures and take into account cut-off valves for hot starts and engine surge at altitude. I'd love to do a VC to PMDG's standard but I don't have the skill. As for not having an FMC. It does. Though by a different name "The Pilot". Gosh all the simmers would have to learn how to navigate and adjust the throttles by hand and fly instead of getting the FMC to do it all for them!! It's a sad story, similar to that of the TSR2, but neither story means it would bring in much money. When you're a business, that's part of the point: to make money to continue to exist. I'm not saying I don't want it. I'm saying I understand why an add-on company wouldn't justify doing it. As for not having an FMC. It does. Though by a different name "The Pilot". I'd argue that simmers truly had to have a passion for the hobby back when pilots had to do most of the navigation themselves... Kyle Rodgers

Had it not been slammed by Guthrie the VC10 would have taken off in sales. The Americans were also interested in buying. China too but by then the jigs had been dismantled. As for your second point. Yes, for the 10 you need piloting skills instead of the systems monitoring skills of today. Super VC10 into LOWI with PF3 at a cinema near you https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=298UDyNmgUA
October 12, 201411 yr Author Nobody mentioned the fact that the VC-10 was the second fastest Airliner after Concorde. We don't see the DC-6 anymore................. The reason I asked, and (now I wonder why) was because in my opinion PMDG are the tops in developers and would make a perfect job of it, unlike the 'Just Fright' version that will be a 'Lite' model. Dave Taylor

October 12, 201411 yr We don't see the DC-6 anymore................. Says who? The DC-6 has never been announced as anything else than a "backburner" add-on. If the right people have jobs to do on the frontline (777 SP1c,747v2, X-Plane project, P3D Projects), then there will not be any progression on the 6.If there's no progression, how do you expect there to be any news? You don't expect to see a weekly update with nothin in it but this: There was no progress on the DC-6 this week. Stay tuned for more updates Do you? Name available upon request
October 13, 201411 yr Commercial Member I'm really not sure how people still aren't understanding the DC-6 line of products here... The DC-6 line of products are, as Thomas mentioned, backburner products. They're there to be worked on when the various developers are working on their primary tasks (the main line of products - also, I want a gold star for perfect use of there/their/they're in a single sentence ). As such, these backburner products will essentially be making money where money was not made before. Additionally, in order to allow the developers to "decompress" some, these add-ons are "lighter" in nature, in that they aren't as in-depth with failures models and so on. As such, if even some money is being made where none was before, and developers need to decompress a little between tougher, more in-depth products, it would behoove the developers to choose projects that truly interest them, and not necessarily products that will sell well. It's like me: I have my primary job where I make money. It's a job, and it's challenging. After that main job, I have a varying amount of side projects to make money where money is not made in my primary job. In order to avoid burnout and stressing myself out, I keep my side projects to those that interest me: a little graphic design, some database (and gen comp work, usually for friends so as to avoid most stresses), and a heap of aviation work. The side projects need not make me tons of money, but they make me some money in addition to my main job, and it's mostly fun because I make the calls on what I will and won't do. But that's just it: I limit it to my interests, and it cannot take precedence over my main job. Same thing here. Kyle Rodgers
