April 26, 200521 yr Commercial Member Also think about how much it would cost you to spend time in a real 747-400 simulator. (how much did some people pay UAL/AVSIM to do it again?) You guys don't know PMDG if you think they're kidding when they say this is going be on the level of an actual procedural trainer - it will be the closest thing you can get to the real aircraft outside of an airline training facility. You'd pay hundreds of dollars to use one of those for 30 minutes, yet $50 or whatever it ends up being for having something almost as good to use forever is too much? April 26, 200521 yr I'm with Michael on the game vs sim deal. While many games do have a totally free community, there are plenty of freeware options here as well, so you have a choice. I think the line between game and sim could be when you decide to get a yoke and pedals and take it more seriously, then the costs come into play more. Personally I don't have a problems with paying for an addon that is priced over the cost of the sim it is something I want.I don't fly the heavies, but I am interested in this design and the new innovations it might bring with it.Regards, MichaelKDFWhttp://www.calvirair.com/mcpics/mcdcvabanner.jpgCalVirAir International Best, Michael KDFW
April 26, 200521 yr >Anyone wanna take a guess at what you think the cost of this>bird will be?>>I feel like it will be 39-50. I hope not, i think 25-30 would>be best. :)>Ok, Sure, I will guess based upon my exacting research of which I have looked at the stars, cut playing cards, threw lego's in a pile and counted them to arrive at a suggested price which the only ones that know what it will be is the developer. So here goes.$79.95 per version, I counted 17 Different 747 versions here:http://www.boeing.com/commercial/747family/background.htmlSo Grand Total will be ONLY $1359.15, but if you act now maybe they will include 1 Livery of their choice for only $10.95 More per version, of course, it's an extra half inch on the paint scheme you know. ;-)Who knows what it will be, when they tell us they tell us. All I know is all I seem to notice is the prices continuing to rise in this sim, to what I perceive as unacceptable levels. So forget the dinner with the family...DON'T PAY THE MORTGAGE and buy the next add-on instead. You can always pay the mortgage, but think of the hours without your family flying the next one of a kind best add-on ever....Well, you asked, I answered.....Take care,JoePS- Disclaimer. I have no idea how many versions will be released, or the price. It's humor folks...PSS- The Sim comes with a 747, did you know that?PSSS- There are also Freeware versions available.Grab My FREEWARE Voice recognition Profiles here:[a href=http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID=fs2004misc&DLID=58334]Cessna 172 Voice Profile[/a][a href=http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID=fs2004misc&DLID=60740]FSD Avanti Voice Profile[/a].You will need the main FREEWARE Flight Assistant program to use it, get it here:[a href=http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID=genutils&DLID=39661]Flight Assistant 2.2[/a] CryptoSonar on Twitch & YouTube.
April 26, 200521 yr >dont any of you think it's insane to pay more for an add on>then the whole game costs in the first place??>Europeans paid
April 26, 200521 yr addons free? Maybe, but most of those are cobbled up in a few hours. There's tons of those for FS as well. If you don't think they're good enough, pay the price or make your own.And don't think addons are always free. A house for an online RPG was auctioned off at eBay last year for over $26000.There's companies selling everything possible for such games, some items costing hundreds of dollars and for that you get a sword or something and that's it.The attitude that people shouldn't be allowed to be rewarded for their efforts is hypocritical.
April 26, 200521 yr I don't personally think the price will be helped by all of the people in the PMDG forum crying out for an update - saying they desperatly need somewhere to type their credit card number in.If I were a developer in for the $$$ I would be thinking that my product is worth alot, because alot of people are saying they are willing to pay quite a lot of cash for this. Demand alone will the factor in determining the price - like all products. While I am not saying that PMDG is (or is not) at fault here, I also think that a company can pretty much treat it's customers how it likes when they know that their product is in serious demand and has no real competition (the LDS767 is not a rival - only another well-developed 747 would be a rival). I think that if were was a rival to the product, we may well have seen it released by now, or have more updates on it's possible release date. I'm not critising - any company would do what PMDG have done.Having said all that I have, I can't wait to see it released, but the price is a factor in me determining if I buy or not. My guess is about $49 and I reckon given the delays in giving us even our weekly screenshot updates a release date or no earlier than September.Someone mentioned FS10 will get released this year..... Source? If you were making a guess when you said that I reckon you are at least a year out.Gary
April 26, 200521 yr Why this discussion in the general FS forum? There's a PMDG forum just 'down the road'....Seeing that the 747 will probably contain more/newer technology than the 737 series, and the 737 series (complete) is just under 70$...Having said that, I hope they will be able to keep the price down. I can understand that the ever-more sophisticated products keep taking longer to develop and that therefore may become ever more expensive, but, even though this hobby is still relatively inexpensive compared to some other activities, more and more high quality and expensive add-ons are being created, competing for our simming budgets. Frankly, I for one cannot afford all the stuff I would like to buy anymore. So, with upcoming products such as the PMDG 747, Ultimate Terrain USA, Activesky V, and many more, all very different add-ons covering very different aspects of the sim, choices are getting tougher if prices keep going up as well.Best,Martijn

I didn't have to do that in the past, but now there are so many good addons, that I really will have to think about what I'm buying next. I think that if they sell this in USD and not GBP, that will give us Brits a bit of an advantage.
April 26, 200521 yr >"PSS- The Sim comes with a 747, did you know that?">>lol, no it doesn't. :)Yes it does! The 747-400 is one of the default a/c. Obviously no where near as detailed as PMDGs will be...

See also his own thread about what addon manufacturers should do because everything they're doing now is a waste of resources.

The 777 looks like a sausage with wings. Add-ons (freeware and payware) are much better than any default planes.
April 26, 200521 yr Perhaps AVSIM could post a sticky along the lines of:"Developers set a price for their add-ons. The rest of us decide individually if we think that price is worth paying. It's called market forces."Then we wouldn't have these threads every few months going over the same ground. Gerry Howard
April 26, 200521 yr You might as well put up a sticky post saying"Visitors are not required to read posts that do not interest them"Best,Martijn
