Magic!

Thank you so much Vesalius, that did the trick.

I've no idea what pressing that button does, and it seems ridiculous that so few people know about it, but at least we can get back on topic.

Can someone please look at the details below to see if they give any clues to my crashes.

Failing that, I'll have to uninstall/reinstall, but I'd rather not have to do that, as it's a big deal for me!

Thank you.

Turn off all civilian and commercial flights as well as all airport and road traffic. See if that makes any difference.

After all the problems with the above table, is there some kind person who can interpret it, please?

It's all technobabble to me!

Hello Tight Git,

I'm no developper/debugger/....

But you're appcrash is telling us that util.dll crashed. It does not tell us why, that's where it gets tricky :).

I did some research for you and encountered 2 articles that (I think) are applicable to your case. Together with the statement that no one else has reported a crash with MSE Belgium&Netherlands in that vicinity...

I think you have one ore more broken/corrupt bgl tile for that region.

If possible, could uninstall MSE, and reinstall it?

Also, have a look at these articles:

Just my 2 cents to help you.

Right, I've taken the plunge and uninstalled/reinstalled MSE Belgium but same result.

If I start off at St Hubert AB (EBSU), FSX gets to 50% load and then crashes.

So, I've uninstalled again and then added each bgl file (one at a time)testing in between.

Very tedious, but I've identified "Belgium_Aerial1_G_17.bgl" as the culprit!

With this removed (actually changed to ".old")all is well, although the area around EBSU is the expected FSX default scenery, with the MSE all around it.

So, bearing in mind that nobody else seems to have reported this problem, where do I go from here, please?

I would also highly recommend unticking all scenery from your scenery library that is not being used. ie all third party sceneries, no matter where in the world. Airports, mesh, vector, photosceney, but ONLY those that do not affect the area you are flying in.

Wow very nice, respect for all the work you've done! :-)

I do not know MSE... Don't they have/offer support?

Could someone else maybe provide you his/hers Belgium_Aerial1_G_17.bgl ?

Rockliffe,

Thanks for your suggestion, but I've never had to do that and it seems an awful lot of ticking/unticking each time I fly!

What's the advantage if everything is working properly?

Vesalius,

That's very kind.

I've contacted MSE Technical Support to see what they have to say.

I'll post back when I hear anything.

Just a thought, but I wonder if anyone has ever flown out of EBSU?

Perhaps that's why nobody has reported the problem.

I must say I'd never even heard of it until now.

In case you're wondering, I stumbled across this problem whilst flying from Gatwick to Munich and just happened to pass over the area...

Hope all turns out well with MSE cust support!

I highly doubt that nobody has flown over EBSU with MSE... Think of all the flights starting their descend into Brussels via Diekirch (DIK VOR).

Saint-Hubert is not really the middle of nowhere :-D
But I must confirm that for most belgians, Saint-Hubert equals beautiful forests, wildlife, landscapes, isolation...

It is very peacefully located in the middle of the Ardennes Forest and in the vicinity of Bastogne. The "Siege of Bastogne" should ring a bell if you know something about European history and WWII. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siege_of_Bastogne

Saint-Hubert houses the highest civil airfield (recreation/gliders) of Belgium, at an altitude of 563m (or 1850ft).
This recreation airfield is located only a few hundred meters(!!) from the former NATO airbase EBSU.

Thanks for the geography/history lesson Vesalius, neither were my strong points at school.

(I didn't realise you were Belgium based until I checked your profile. I'm in the UK and twice your age!)

I've just flown EGKK to EDDM without incident, except for the expected rectangle of default FSX scenery near EBSU.

Now awaiting comments from MSE Support.

Unfortunately MegaSceneryEarth Support have not responded to my ticket or emails.

Looking through the Forum, it appears I'm not alone, but it's still annoying having forked out good money for their product.

I was just wondering if you got some feedback from them and now I see your message. That is very sad and very unprofessional. Afterall you pay "big bucks" for their product so you'd expect to receive at least some kind of feedback in the first days. At least a message that they have no idea... seems you got better support here at Avsim from fellow simmers.

Shame to the developper!

Thanks TurboTomato, but now I've paid for MSE Belgium, I might as well keep it.

Ditching a whole country scenery because one small area is naff is a perfect example of the saying, throwing out the baby with the bath water!

Hello there. Just found this thread and reading through it. We have not had any other users report this issue around the area you mention. I tried myself flying out of EBSU and no crashes. If the file itself was bad, then everyone would get the same result. This is not the case. There may be a corruption of the file, but this would be only local to you, and if this was the case, must have happened during either download of the file (less likely) or the unpacking of the file (more possible).

The error is with the util.dll file as per your crash log. Unfortunately this .dll error pointer seems very hard to pinpoint to anything judging by what I have seen. Some users suggest it may have to do with particular scenery files, other users say it has something to do with AI traffic, and there are many other potential reasons, but no general consensus on the issue.

As mentioned, if it was an inherent problem with the file, every user would have the issue, but this is not the case. I am not sure what we can do on our side here. Photoscenery products are some of the least buggy types of scenery out there. Sort of like HDMI cables, they either work or they do not.

I am not sure what more I can suggest from here as there appears to be no one fix for those types of crashes, short of trying a full re-install of FSX, but that's a last resort due to the time and effort that takes. You could also try scrapping your MSE Belgium files and re-downloading a fresh set. We have had one customer who had a crash issue in Oregon that was sort of similar, but only he had the problem. We could not find the problem there either. We sent him a copy of the scenery on our backup disks and for whatever reason, that fixed it, but it didn't really make sense.

If we get a large number of MSE Belgium owners reporting this same issue, then obviously we would investigate further, but this has not been the case to date. Perhaps try redownloading as a start?
