January 14, 201511 yr This is very poor. Lockheed Martin need to provide proper support on their own forums. Our company won't be using this software for training if support is that poor. Have you ... personally had problems with P3D forum support? Best Regards, Vaughan Martell PP-ASEL KDTW

January 16, 201511 yr Have you tried with User Account security and Firewall disable in Windows ? I am really feeling for you Falcon. I would really to help you get going. Can you run an DxDiag and post the export to file here ? https://fsprocedures.com Your home for all flight simulator related checklist.
January 16, 201511 yr "Have not checked Checksum." You have to check each Checksum for each ZIP file before you Unzip it and use it. Best Regards, Vaughan Martell PP-ASEL KDTW
January 17, 201511 yr Commercial Member I've seen my P3D2 hang at the splash screen when it can't connect to the internet for it's little digital handshake, this happens because my ISP sucks and while P3D detects an internet connection the ISP's lousy connectivity won't allow data to flow. If I let it go long enough and the ISP is stubborn enough it will do exactly as you describe where the splash screen eventually just goes away silently and the program no longer shows in the task manager. If I disconnect my wifi and retry starting the sim P3D2 loads past the splash screen almost instantaneously because it forfeits the digital handshake when no internet connection is detected. You said: Can't download with anti-virus and firewall off as the download takes over 15 hours at our broadband speed. ...which indicates your connection may not be the best. Sounds all too familiar. I'm guessing, but I think it's possible this could be a network/router problem or something that doesn't otherwise cause you problems with your normal internet activity. Try disabling any connection you have and see if P3D2 will start then. Just another stab in the dark. Jim
January 17, 201511 yr Author Just checked the Checksum vonmar and it is O.K. Jim I have tried with and without internet connection as it is a wired only connection.
January 17, 201511 yr "Home built." PC "Windows 8.1 pro" PC Just my thoughts: You have some kind of problem with the PC hardware or an application running is blocking P3D or your win 8.1 is not up to date or you do not have the system specs (required software) installed to run P3D. or your Win8.1 (current settings) cannot run P3D "Tried to post image as png or Jpeg by drag and drop but message said wrong format?" You cannot post screenshots via AVSIM menues. You have to post it on a site like photobucket and then put the link to your jpg inside your replies here. Best Regards, Vaughan Martell PP-ASEL KDTW
January 17, 201511 yr Jim I have tried with and without internet connection as it is a wired only connection. I don't use P3D under Windows 8.x so I can't provide much input here ... I have a few suggestions: Sounds like your not getting license validation during startup ... what license version did you purchase? Recommend you run an internet speed test here: https://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/ and select "New York" ... I believe LM's servers are on the East Coast US so New York would be a close test. Report back what you ping, upload and download speed. For example I live on the West coast US and my speed to New York is 20.91 Mbps down and 8.01 Mbps up vs. my testing to San Francisco where the results are drastically better 109.08 Mbps download and 8.39 Mbps upload ... so distance from server locations can be significant. If this is some OS/Norton security violation, they don't always provide end user error messages (don't give hackers any clues) ... but with that said, check Event Viewer - Windows Logs - Security. FYI, many users are running P3D successfully in Windows 8.x -- maybe they can provide additional info. Sorry I can't be more helpful. Cheers, Rob.
January 17, 201511 yr P3D v2.4 works very well with Windows 8.1 and even now with Windows 10. Maybe you messed things up a lot. Spirit
January 17, 201511 yr Hi Falcon164, I sense a reluctance to make the decision to remove Norton. Quite honestly, I think you need to do this if only to eliminate Norton from the equation. I'm willing to bet there are not many of us who are serious flight simmers that use Norton for protection. It may be effective at what it does, but it's such an invasive product and extremely difficult to remove completely. I appreciate you will have invested in an annual subscription but if it turns out that Norton is in fact to blame then I for one would ditch it in a heartbeat. Something is intercepting the Prepar3D process and preventing it from completing its tasks. Is Prepar3D the only program affected? You appear to have tried everything suggested by other members short of removing Norton. Reformatting your HD and starting over is another consideration, but can you justify such a drastic solution for one program? My advice would be to bite the bullet and uninstall Norton in the usual way then use their removal tool to remove any remnants: https://support.norton.com/sp/en/uk/home/current/solutions/kb20080710133834EN_EndUserProfile_en_us Once you have done that, I would uninstall Prepar3D to give you a fresh start and then check that the Prepar3D root folder and the following 3 user folders have been removed (create backups first): %PROGRAMDATA%\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v2 %LOCALAPPDATA%\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v2 %APPDATA%\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v2 To navigate to these folders just copy each line in turn and paste it into the Start - run dialogue box and hit <Return> (N.B. Don't include a space before the first % as it won't work) Delete the contents of the Windows\Temp folder. It's likely there will be a few items you can't remove as they are currently in use. Run Disk Cleanup: %windir%\system32\cleanmgr.exe Delete the contents of these folders: C:\Users\YourUserName\AppData\Local\Temp C:\Users\YourUserName\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files Now run 'CCleaner' to clean the System Registry. Shutdown, wait a couple of minutes and then Reboot. Wait a few minutes for Windows to settle then reinstall Prepar3D v2.4 using the file executable Setup.exe - this will ensure all required prerequisites are installed. Install to C:\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v2 Reboot again, cross your fingers and run Prepar3D which will need to be reactivated. (Note: the 'Shaders' folder will only appear with content when you first run Prepar3D) Finally, you will need to find an alternative antivirus solution. Doubtless there will be many recommendations. I have used ESET NOD32 for many years and it has served me very well. It's also worth excluding the Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v2 folder from antivirus scanning. Good luck! Mike
January 24, 201511 yr Author You are probably correct Spirit_66 that things are messed up now but the initial actions were reasonable: Downloaded Prepar3d. Installed as administrator. Setup ran as administrator. Registration online was successful. Program displayed splash screen. It disappeared giving the desktop. Neither the reliability monitor or logs have shown any problem naming P3D. Cruachan I am reluctant to remove Norton as the annual subscription has just recently been renewed and you are correct, I am not willing to do a clean install of windows and all my other software. I’ve tried your suggestions with Norton disabled (not uninstalled) but still no luck. Now I have decided to give up as this is taking up too much of my time. I have had none of these problems with other software. Although other can run P3D on their Windows 8.x machines I am surprised to have so much trouble from commercial software. Thanks to everyone for their help and advice it was very much appreciated. Now I will wait to see if future update to P3D v2.5 solves my problem. Until then I will stick with FSX and FTX Orbyx as I have had no problems with that system.
January 26, 201511 yr Hi Falcon164, I've reviewed this thread and I'm wondering whether DirectX might be implicated. Try running dxdiag.exe and confirm all is well - probably will be, but certainly no harm in checking. Mike
