January 4, 201511 yr Hey Guys, I need some advice and help on a new computer build to run FSX: SE on maximum graphics or close to it. Please look at the parts that I plan on using to build the computer below: CPU Intel Core i7-4790K 4.0GHz Quad-Core CPU Cooler Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing Motherboard Gigabyte GA-Z97X-UD3H-BK ATX LGA1150 Memory G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1866 SSD Samsung 850 EVO-Series 250GB 2.5" SSD Storage Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Video Card Asus Radeon R9 270X 2GB DirectCU II Case Corsair 760T Black ATX Full Tower Power Supply SeaSonic 850W ATX12V / EPS12V Optical Drive Asus DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS DVD/CD Writer Operating System Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 (OEM) (64-bit) Sound Card Asus Xonar D1 Wireless Network Adapter Asus PCE-N53 802.11a/b/g/n PCI-Express x1
January 4, 201511 yr High end CPU is good. Low end GPU is no good. Go for an Nvidia. AMD suck for FSX. Nvidia 970 is what you want to look at.
January 4, 201511 yr Author High end CPU is good. Low end GPU is no good. Go for an Nvidia. AMD suck for FSX. Nvidia 970 is what you want to look at. So everything looks good besides the graphics card?
January 4, 201511 yr Would swap the 212 for an all in one water cooler like the H80 or Antec 650 P3D v4.5 MSFS2020 Hisense 50" 4K TV Ryzen 9600x 64gb DDR5 6000mhz, Asrock B650m HDV/M.2 Gigabyte 16gb 9070XT, Thermalright Aqua Elite 240mm 2TB NVMe Boot/FS2020 Drive, 2TB NVMe P3D Drive. Saitek Yoke, Pedals, Radio Panel, Switch Panel, 2 x FiPs
January 4, 201511 yr The cooler is adequate if you don't intend to overclock. The PSU is more than you really need, particularly if you follow the good advice above and purchase the 970 instead. You can save a little by investing in 8Gb ram. FSX, FSX-SE and P3D can use only half of that. Go 16Gb only if you do image manipulation, video production or intend to run a large ram disc.
January 4, 201511 yr Get 8gb and get 970 or budget $$$ limited get 760 gtx. 270x would be great with other games just not fsx because of cloud issue and its AA not optimized for FSX.
January 5, 201511 yr Author So I should use a liquid cooler and get a better graphics card? Probably bump down on RAM if I want to? How many watts is reasonable for the setup's PSU?
January 5, 201511 yr An air cooler will actually do the job, it is a matter of taste.. air vs water. 2X4GB RAM may save a little money, not much. Likewise the PSU, stay with 850W. But graphics card, yes, go for a GTX970, or 770. Bert
January 5, 201511 yr 16gb ram is overkill for fsx build. Get an nvidia like everyone says. What resolution are you running? I have a gtx770 2gb running 1440p and its not enough. I wish i had known about vram before i went for the 770. So yeah, get 8gb 1866 CAS9 and a gtx 970(gigabyte gaming g1 is the fastest ive read) i7 4790K 4.8GHz, 16GB DDR3 1866MHz, EVGA RTX 2080 XC. 1TB M.2 SSD, 4TB HDD, 4K display. P3D v4.4, FSLabs 320, ORBX Global, Vector, Fly Tampa Airports, FSDT Airports, ActiveSky, REX Sky Force
