April 8, 201511 yr Author Some of them sound like former hippies from the 60's, I was waiting for one of them to say 'Groovy' They are a game bunch though. They get exposed to a lot of stuff, some of it very strange, that they might ordinarily have little to no contact with, and they are always up for the challenge. We are all connected..... April 8, 201511 yr A bit patronising don't you think? Like that bloody phrase 'silver surfers'. EDIT: I didn't bother to listen to this clip but from what I saw the reactions didn't look all that different. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SM9s5cOKe8c The World is divided into two groups. April 8, 201511 yr Author A bit patronising don't you think? Like that bloody phrase 'silver surfers'. Not really. there is actually an entire "react" genre of Youtube, which includes Kids react. teens react, brits react etc. There is a difference though. In the video you posted, the teens knew generally what the Oculus was, and knew of the type of game and what to expect.(They also all could use the controller on their own) In the elder react series, the participants usually have no experience/knowledge of the technology or of exactly what to expect, and that's what makes their reactions interesting. The fear reactions are similar, but the context is different. The Kids react series will often go in the opposite direction, and introduce the kids to things they have no knowledge of, like an 8 track tape machine. We are all connected..... April 9, 201511 yr Author Has anyone started using HTC's Vive with flightsims? I have not seen that, But I did see a sort of parallel tech that has already been snapped up by the Oculus people, that might be germane to the problem of manipulating plane controls while your face is buried in a mask........ Things are moving awfully fast, in the VR world, right now.... We are all connected..... To each other, biologically...... To the Earth, chemically...... To the rest of the Universe atomically. April 9, 201511 yr I am 68 years old, and have been into computers since the Sinclair ZX-81. Been into programming (C++, VB and even COBOL), and worked as a network engineer for 12 years. I am also A+ and Network+ certified. I have BETA-tested several versions of Windows. And I have been flying flight sims since Sublogic first produced one. My house is full of devices - I have two desktops networked for FSX, ASN and Aivlasoft EFB. I have a Kindle Fire, and my wife has a laptop, a Paperwhite and an I-Pad, all of which are wirelessly networked in my home. So you see, just because I am an old fart doesn't mean this new technology confounds and surprises me. I am familiar with Oculs Rift, and would love to see it work with FSX, instead of TrackIR. I'll jump on the first chance to test it. While I am not of the home cockpit genre, I like as real an experience as possible. Because, you see, I am also a licensed private pilot - just the small stuff: single engine Cessnas and Pipers. But again, do not connect old age with senility. we all aren't pushing one foot in the grave and the other on a banana peel. -= Gary Barth =-
