Thx. After reinstalling FSX to my new SSD I gave this a try. I must add that it looks great. Thank you for this magnificent gift.

Regards

I was monitoring FSX using process explorer and didn't noticed any increased vas usage.

You're welcome! Yeah, the VAS usage shouldn't see a hit.

Great mesh. Just did a quick comparison on my blog with my previous payware FS Global 2008 and FS Genesis Worldmesh X, and it looks like FreeMesh is the best option. Can't really beat that: Best and FREE!

Cool comparison! I still have some areas that need some cleaning up though. Hopefully afterwards they'll also compare favorably.

Daniel, you're doing better than Google Earth, so you should be proud of the work you've done!

Could be a collision with UTXv1, but the Kangerlussaq (Greenland) area looks like this:

If this can't be cleaned up, I'd understand as source data for such remote parts of the planet might be hard to come by.

It's not the Mesh. I don't have this problem near or around Kangerlussaq. Must be the vector data for the lakes etc. that creates this.

Raron - Aosta over the shoulder of the Matterhorn is one of my favourite short scenic flights, and not just because I recently had a marvellous holiday in that area.  However there seems to be an artefact just where the valley splits in two at Stalden.  Vanilla FSX, visible at  mesh resolution of 38m or less.

I still can't manage to post a picture on this forum so here's a link:

Not to knock your work, I love your mesh and really appreciate your releasing it as freeware.

Izamm. Holger Sandmann has created some great freeware mesh of the Alps and Himalayas. Try a search in the library here or other freeware places.

Thanks simmerhead but I removed all my piecemeal meshes after installing this great product.  For the alps I used to use the LOD-11 mesh from vf-air (their Courchevel is great!), but although this is technically twice as fine as FreeMesh, you have to look really hard to spot the differences - excepting the anomaly of course!

Do you have an add-on for this area installed?

(I'm not even sure whether UTXv1 includes Greenland or not.)

Oh SRTM artifact. Why art thou here? Now I have to go find you and kill you. With love.

Thanks lzamm. We'll see what we can do.

I haven't checked myself, but it could be that the stock vector information doesn't play nice with the new elevations. I'll check and see with FTX Vectors on and off.

Bjoern, I have no addons installed for Greenland - only FTX Global texture replacements.

It's not the Mesh

I checked out the area in my addon-free FSX install and the raised lakes are still there.

With Freemesh
