Ultimate Terrian - Convince Me!

Hello,I have USA Roads, Ultimate Environment and FSGenesis Landclass, why do I need to get Ulimate Terrain USA?I am not being sarcastic, I almost boughtit! I have downloaded it and was just about to push the button, but wondered why if I have the other stuff........Paul

I don't have it myself but I much prefer having realistic coastlines and rivers. Add to that the very impressive night-lightning that comes with it I can see myself purchasing the the soon to be released european version of it.

I haven't bought USA UT yet but have been using UT for Canada and Alaska. Prior to that I had to spend hours using Ground2K4 to enhance the areas around the airports I build. I was skeptical at first about UT, probably because of the amount of work I had already done, but can say now with certainty, that it is a major enhancement for FS at a very reasonable price. Not to mention that it makes my present and future work much easier. Much improved coastlines, river and the night lights do add a really nice aspect to flying at dawn, dusk and nighttime. I guess what I like the most about it though is the vast area that it covers. I also like the fact that you have a large amount of control over what aspects of the scenery you want displayed. The only add-ons I usually buy are aircraft, but UT is a rare exception. I highly recommend. That said, and not knowing how detailed FSGenesis, USA Roads and Flight Environment are, obviously it's going to have to be your decision. Adam

Paul,I bought it the evening it was released and love it. The coastlines have been greatly improved. Railroads are now properly placed and come with updated textures. The night lighting is unbelievable. I had USA Roads and found this product to be a major improvement. I also have Justin's Landclass and Flight Environment and are both compatible. You also qualify for a 25% discount on your purchase having owned USA Roads. I don't think you could possibly be dissatisfied. It's a very well-made product and the support from the developer is outstanding.

It is well worth the price for the accurate water and the night lighting. However, for the area I fly in, rural upstate NY, the landclass and the roads are not nearly as accurate as FSG's landclass and USA Roads. I will be switching back to those.Hopefully, then I'll have the best of both worlds.Jim

I have Ultimate Terrain... And I am jonsing for the U.S. version to come out... The nightlighting is superb... The Coastlines, Roads are also great..Good Add-On.. Happy Landings,

I have mixed feeling about it. As a owner of it I give great praise to what it does and how it works but find that the default does do a better job blending in with the auto gen and what not.I flew around seatle and nantucket and found roads and buildings in the water and ships on land. Its not a fault just a fact that the more acurate info doesn't mesh 100% with the default.Maybe inland flying would look better for my taste. One thing that I find does work well is the lighting (night). Prior to this during the day it was harder to find airports than at night and seemed realistic in the day but at night it was to easy. Now with this bright raised lighting it seems way more real at night. So it not only looks good but is a very close to real life environment.

I judge by the criteria that if it looks more like it does from the real plane it is an improvement. The lake I live on while not a major lake does not even exist in FS. It does now with Ultimate terrain-in fact every body of water does-not just blobs representing lakes but actual real life resemblance (There are lots of lakes in Michigan where I live and the difference is astounding). The rivers are amazing-flying out of Jackson Hole for instance now looks like it does in real life-rivers are now correct.Of course the roads are all there and the new night lighting.End result is the sim looks even closer to reality-and this is a major improvement imho-one of the most major that has come along, along with Active Sky and Reality Xp instruments of course. :-)Seems like we already have fs10 with these add ons-not sure what MS is going to be able to cook up! http://mywebpages.comcast.net/geofa/pages/rxp-pilot.jpg

WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE-the best Flight Sim!

I'm confused, USA Roads and UT:USA are supposed to use the same database for roads. Are you sure UT does not have all the roads in Upstate NY? The comments about the landclass are true and they are working on a fix to make them compatible.Thomas

Why should other consumers need to convince you? The return policy from Flight1 is pretty straight forward. If you purchase an item and are not satisfied with it, they will refund your purchase price. I've only returned one purchase and was treated well. Try it and if you don't like it, get your money back. I wouldn't consider it a waste of time.

Hi there,I'm still waitng to try this Ultimate terrain but I can't wait to get my hands on a copy ASAP. Been busy working on the FE update 2 which gives massive numbers of clouds (over 35,000 cumulus clouds alone) and much more water.I can't think of anything better to try Flight Environment with than Ultimate terrain: Canada is fantastic, USA looks even better add that to an amazing weather engine like Weather Maker Pro and presto. Awesome. As far as being convinced is concerned please trust me when I say I can't think of anything better to partner FE than UT.Peter

USA looks even better add that to an amazing weather engine like Weather Maker Pro and presto. Or ASV!

Do you want scenery that is essentially true to life and that you can recognize on a sectional chart or not? If not, than you don't need UT. Landclass only defines what textures should go in a given area. The problem with the default scenery for FS2004 is that coastlines, lakes, rivers, railroads, etc. are missing or misplaced and do not share anything in common with the real world in most cases. UT takes actual GPS data for all these things (as well as roads), and incorporates them into the FS scenery. For example, I have a lake near my house that with the default scenery was placed more than 5 miles in the wrong spot, and the shape didn't really match reality. Now it's spot on with all the roads running around it. Add the night lighting and other nice features, and in my mind it's a no brainer.

hi!I've been flying around Europe for years with only a couple of short hops in the States. Now when on vacation I today decided to begin enjoy the sceneries on the other side Atlantic Ocean. Since having most of Europe covered with mesh sceneries etc., I wanted not to fly with default ones in America either..I read these columns here and bought FS Genesis mesh for the US and am now downloading UT Usa (a biig size :)).Do You think they together make the scenery worth looking around?RegardsPetteriEFHK
