High end PC, how ever Blurry Textures FSX

Recommended Posts

Hello guys,

Well, just what you see in the tittle.

These are my specs:

Mobo: MSI Z97 Gaming 7

RAM: GSkill RipJaws 16Gb @1886Mhz

CPU: Intel I7-4790K @4.4Ghz (No Overclock)

Cooling: Cooler Master Nepton 280L

GPU: MSI GTX970 Gaming 4Gb

Now the question is: Why in the world do I get blurry ground textures in FSX?

I configure the FSX just like the FTX Global manual  says, how ever I get blurry textures some times in from of my plane and some times iven Below the plane itself.

Has anyone had this problem? How can I resolve it and get (As I expected when I bought the computer) excelent graffics for the FSX?

Thank you very much for any help you can provide me with.

Regards.

PD: The frame Rate is great, only the ground textures are giving me probems.

If you're running FSX on a hard drive, it could probably use some defragging. That's usually what might cause blurry textures.

Your profile doesn't list what kind of drive you use, but the faster it is, the less blurries you should have.

If you pause the sim,  do the textures clear up?

What speed are you flying at?   what LOD settings are you using?

Even with a fast system, it is possible to overload FSX,  and blurry textures are a sign of that..

It is a Western Digital hard drive (No SDD) I re-used from my old PC, I have actually been thinking about buying a SSD, now; if I run FSX in the SSD and Windows in the normal hard drive, would that affect FSX performance? I would say no but not really sure.

The LOD slidebar in FSX is set to max, and in the FSX.CFG file is set to 6.500000. (I followed Kostas's tweaking guide) but it did not really fix the issue.

Thank you very much for your quick response.

Best Regards from Colombia.

Should be okay. The only thing that FSX would use from the hard drive would be the CFG file and scenery indexes. Everything else will be read from the SSD.

Good, so, any ideas on how to fux the problem at least for the moment...??

Thank un advance!

Sorry about the duplicated reply, it's my cellphone's fault.

Blurries are in most cases related to a badly tweaked FSX.cfg, where frame-limit-settings, bufferpools, LOD_RADIUS and FIBER_FRAME_TIME_FRACTION simply do not work together. For example: if you use a very low FFTF value (such as 0.10) along with a high LOD_RADIUS value, you will run into blurries really soon. If you then even run unlimited FPS in your FSX, you get blurries right away... So, as long as you do not post your FSX.cfg here, nobody can help you.

It looks to me that your resolution isn't set right it should be 1920 x 1080, also I would dump most of your tweak's as your system doesn't need them. Turn down your textures to 2048 and also your scenery slider to one notch back from right. What inspector settings are you using ? I got the same system as you and my performance is stellar.

FFTF=0.15... maybe too low.. try 0.20 or 0.33

Also try without the Affinity mask as a test.

With your GTX 970, you should be better off using

[bufferPools]
UsePools=0

Then, I would strongly recommend to turn down your car traffic from 20 to 5, it is a performance killer:

[TrafficManager]
FreewayDensity=5

What you can also try, is an increased texture bandwith value, FSX:SE for example uses "160":

[Display]
TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=160

And finally, your FSX.cfg shows EXACTLY what I was guessing in my last post: it seems that your settings regarding bufferpools, FFTF, LOD_RADIUS, TextureMaxLoad and framerate limits are completely mistweaked. So, I try to help here, but you need some adjustments done on your own:

[Display]

TextureMaxLoad=36

Try this. If this does not help along with the other tweaks (FFTF=0.15, no bufferpools), delete TextureMaxLoad, or try other values (can't remember the default value there)

[Display]

UPPER_FRAMERATE_LIMIT=33

I strongly suggest to use a frame limiter, as the blurries are usually a sing of overloading your system and limiting FPS allows to use the spare resources for other tasks, like loading of textures.

Finally, you have to set up your nVidia inspector correctly and accordingly to your FSX.cfg (anti-aliasing, framerate limits). For this, you will find plenty of information on the net...

Thanks to the posters in this thread.

I have been having the same issue since I had to rebuild my FSX.cfg file.  I've tried most of the suggestions here, and I think the blurred textures in front of the aircraft are clear now.
