Phenom 300 released...first impressions

True Bert and this one does not. I initially set a desired alt and the AP climbed right up through it. Once I got it manually and latched it, it held just fine though.

RE FPS - I don't check them so I have no idea. It stayed smooth so I'd guess that the fps didn't drop at least.

There is one I found but only one so far.

I bought the plane (I don't own their Phenom 100, but people seem to like it, so I thought this one should be at least as good as the 100) and have severe problems with it:

-can't select an altitude on the MCP (weired logic behind the altitude knob, seems to manipulate 100s and 1000s totally randomly)

-A/P goes totally nuts while in FLC

-A/P never levels off at selected altitude

-strange logic on MFD while using the ENT key (entering flight plan, confirming data entry, etc)

-FPS are really bad, much worse (10 - 15 fps less) than their Hawker

I asked them for a refund, this release is really bad and absolutely not usable for me.

Hi Michael,

What you report is what we are seeing also.  Carenado told me they are working on a fix.  Regarding the altitude knob, it is weird.  It seems to jump in 1,000's when going up and in 100's when going down.  Never saw one do that before.

Hang in there.  What Carenado doesn't fix, the community usually fixes.

Best,

Bill

Re. altitude knob:

Carenado implemented a system where you can toggle between 100s and 1000s by right-clicking the ALT SEL knob once.  A nice idea, but there's a problem...if you're in 1000s mode and you're selecting a new altitude while in the climb/descent, it's simply adding or subtracting 1000s relative to your current altitude (which is changing)...thus rendering that feature quite useless.

That's what the F1 Mustang does and it works fine.

Of course it works fine in the Mustang!  :P  I'll explain the problem I'm seeing differently...if you're changing altitudes at the moment you turn the knob, the 1000' increment will be relative to the aircraft's current altitude, not the previously selected altitude.  So, let's say I have a selected altitude of 12,000, I'm currently climbing through 8,700', and I now I want to continue my climb to a new selected altitude of 17,000 without pause.  If I'm passing through 8,700' the moment I turn the knob, that one click will give me a selected altitude of, for example, 13,700, and the next click as I've gone through 9,100' will yield 15,100...and so on.  So, I have to revert back to the 100s mode anyway in order to set the cardinal altitude.

Anyway, it's just another tweak for the list.

That is what it is like to be part of Public Beta 1

Hope you are feeding these bugs back to Carenado..

Bert

  I honestly can't think of one developer who would let that even go out as an alpha bug.

Can anyone that has both the Hawker and the 300 tell me which one has the better frame rates.

Well...I haven't ever tested an alpha...so there is that.

Hawker's great here - will not be buying 300

I already stated in a post above that the P300 is much worse on my system, 10-15 fps less than the Hawker. So, on dense airport sceneries, where the Hawker is still fluid in the high 20's, the P300 is as bad as 15.

Plus all these A/P problems, this is very easily the worst Carenado release I've ever bought.
