August 11, 200520 yr Hi Colin,I hope you have seen there are a buch of shots over on the BEV forum that are essentially default FS with some add-on mesh and the BEV textures. There is work underway to provide more comparison shots.Everyone agrees there should be no smoke and mirrors, and that's why I stated in my very first post here all the different add-on we tend to use. One point I do want to get across is these are simply textures. Wonderfully done textures, but textures all the same. If you see a forest in your install of FS, you will see one with BEV. If you see a road in your install, you will see one with BEV. If you see a town or city, you will see that as well. If your hometown, farm, or house doesn't show up in FS now, it won't with BEV. What will change is how that farm, town or forest will look. It is the paint on the outside of the building that is changing, not the building itself. I think this is the thought that has led to the suprise in all the requests for default shots on our part. That said, the requests for more comparison shots with default landclass and roads has been heard, and you will see more and more of that as we get it put together for you. We appreciate your interest and feedback, so keep it coming.Tony=http://www.flightsim-bevs.com]
August 11, 200520 yr So, with the discounts offered, the pricing for the whole world, except Antarctica, would be $288. Think about that guys. Some of the textures in FS are down-right horrible, especially in the "far-off lands". AND, this is a complete revamp of Autogen, as well. For those (such as myself) that believe this is a LOT of money, look at it this way (as I did, and as has been pointed out already)1. You can choose to only buy what you really want first (or ever) with subsequent purchases later.2. You can organize season and region priorities and purchase, say, 4 at a time, with one more free each time.3. Or any mix/match of methods. Added up, yes, it is a rather high price, but for what it offers, in my opinion it's worth it. Besides, if I were to put a figure on what FS9 is worth to me personally NOW, compare it to what it could be worth to me AFTER BEV, their price could very well be a bargain. The whole point I am making is that someone has finally done what I always wanted in FS9. That only earns them my whole-hearted thanks. Now, I have to decide, like all purchasers of this or any payware add-on, is where to spend my money, and how much. Freeware definately has it's place, as my HD is full of it (about 30GB), but FS is worth more to me than a simple monetary value. I mean, how much would you take to NOT EVER use ANY FS again in your life? I couldn't off-hand place a figure on that. All of this is my opinion, of course, which I thought I would share with my fellow simmers. But the most important reason for my posting is to say a BIG Thank You to BEV for taking the time and talent to make this product to begin with.-JeremyThe Ozark DogfighterHappy Flying!
August 11, 200520 yr Hear! Hear! Release can't come soon enough. After pondering the situation however, I realized I will really need to buy FSGenesis Landclass too. So have to add that cost on too. I have the mesh and American Roads already, but it seems sort of silly to upgrade the textures without spending the $15 to insure accurate placement geographically.
August 11, 200520 yr Hi CowlFlapOpen,I guess you have come to conclusion, at least for yourself, to the question you asked when you opened this thread? :)Thanks again for your interest!Tony=http://www.flightsim-bevs.com]
August 11, 200520 yr I would like to see a poll of how many pilots actually fly online as opposed to offline.
August 11, 200520 yr StephenThis is becoming a very long thread so I hope this reply doesn't get lost, but thank you for your response. I did give an indication of what I would be prepared to pay for improved textures in an earlier post but perhaps more realisticly you mighy like to look at what is being charged for Ultimate Terrain as this addon seem to be accepted as fair value. Now UT delivers an awful lot of data- a one gig download for the US version and once Europe and Australia are added the total cost might be about $110 (this of course is for all seasons). Now this isn't the whole world by a long shot but probably covers say 80-90% of the areas simmers fly in. If you feel the added benefit of BEV is equivalent to UT then you have a price point, whether the market will think the same only time will tell.I might add that in my experience the thing that can greatly improves the look of FS is accurate landclass as much or more than better textures. I did buy one season of FS2002 FScene textures for Australia but I was quite disappointed with the result. If someone can come up with textures that accurately represent the Australian landscape I will certainly take notice.Bruceb Bruce Bartlett Frodo: "I wish none of this had happened." I'm a part of the BEV project (marketing, webmaster, admin, all round nice guy) - and I live in Australia. Let me assure you when we get around to releasing BEV Australia, it will be a big, beautiful golden brown sunburnt country. I've already supplied some initial aerial photos to the devs (Melbourne, summer, brown, dry) and I can honestly say that I won't let Stephen release BEV-Oz until I'm happy we've gotten it right.

My beta test spec is a P4 3.2Ghz O'clocked to 3.6Ghz, 1024MB DDR RAM, nVidia 6600GT 128MB video, 17" LCD panel @ 1280x1024.In my video card settings I run 2XQ AA, and 16XAF, and "Quality".Inside FS9 I set MIP to 8. Everything else is maxxed out. Using ActiveSky V, I set visibility to 30 miles. I think that is the key - reducing vis (which is how the real world is anyway).I am capped at 25FPS and I rarely get below that, and I don't have blurries. For my fs9.cfg, I've mainly followed the tips here at AVSIM and other forums.Hope this helps. IMHO the biggest FPS killers are AI traffic, ground shadows and overcast clouds. I have AI at 50%, try to avoid overcast clouds, and have ground shadows because they add so much realism to terrain.
August 12, 200520 yr >BEV Australia, it will be a big, beautiful golden brown>sunburnt country. Desert, arid areas are much more difficult to get right in the simulated scenery. August 12, 200520 yr We hope to have desert textures to test in the coming week - screenshots will be posted asap :)
August 12, 200520 yr Lanclass is highly recommended. I bought it and it made a world of difference. Here's a trick I got off the FSGeneis forum. If you are using Ultimate Terrain USA (UTUSA), you can 'extract' the urban Landclass from UTUSA which has really good urban placement, and install it in a layer above FSGenesis Lanclass which has a broad coverage or the rual areas. This sandwich of lanclass gets the best of both worlds. In the scenery library:Ultimate Terrain City LandlassFSGenesis Lanclass (FSGLC)Ultimate Terrain USA(In that order.)See the FSGeneis Forum for instructions. This will create a nice transition into the urban areas. With 38 meter Mesh installed, NuRoads2 and FS Environment I can't wait to fly some VFR.BEV will be on my immediate purchase list. Convincing colors and the autogen feature are very attractive.dlm9000

Any chance of some further help, please? It's the 'extract' bit that intrigues me. Title of the thread should help to narrow down the search considerably. Thanks!Mike
