Do we still only activate scenery where we fly ?

Featured Replies

Very basic question about v3 :

Now that VAS has been optimized do we still only activate the scenery where we fly or doesn't it really matter anymore ?

I have 368 entries and if I could let them all Active that would be nice...

Good question.  But I thought one of the benefits of the VAS fix is that we don't have to implement that painful workaround, because the sim now discards scenery it doesn't need.

Without any basis in fact or experimentation, I'd say that no - you probably do not need to micro-manage your scenery library anymore to optimize memory usage.

The theory is P3Dv3 is now loading scenery in only when needed, and releasing it from memory as you fly past. Your highly detailed departure airport will be long gone from RAM as you work your way to your destination.... as will any other higher detail scenery you happen to fly over or near along the way.

Having watched a lot of VAS tests it seems we no longer have to, But I still will as it takes so little time and I just do it out of habit now.

I also leave them activated but has not tested it so much. I like that i finally can make stints or more flights without even closing the sim. FS2crew has a funtion for that and now its really possible.

you don't have to for VAS..but for load time its still necessary I believe. Its taking a lot of time to load if you have US, EU Asia with lots of photosceneries..

I don't deactivate scenery anymore. This is one of the great advantages of v3, because at least for me this was always annoying...

I would love to test it, but that damn controller assignment problem is stopping me from flying.

I’m with Manny there; keep doing what you’ve been doing so far,
even with VAS management being greatly improved in v3.x;
you’re still looking at much longer loading times with 300+ scenery entries!
and inevitably increased VAS regardless of the improved management ability,
you will still see a difference in VAS usage when loading 1 vs. 300+ sceneries,

have no doubt; in the not too distant future people will start maxing out v3.x as well;
richer sceneries more AI; more objects, higher res textures; you can see where this is going;
you will find yourself in the same place you were before; how do I cut back on VAS,

There’s no overhead with a SimStarter profile (a new and improved build is on its way)

Btw; it already started,
Earlier I caught ImagineSim ATL for v3 on ADX; I thought I was having blurry vision or seeing double,
