Do clouds move with the wind?

Featured Replies

I just started p3dv3 and sitting on the runway I am seeing clouds move across. I was pleasantly surprised. Never seen this till now..So do they move with the wind?

And all I am doing now is munching on the cookies and doing cloud spotting... :D

It seems as though clouds move with the winds, and even if it doesn't really, it has me convinced. I'm pretty sure that even FSX had moving weather fronts.

Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-10700F CPU @ 2.90GHz (8 cores) Hyper on, Evga RTX 3060 12 Gig, 32 GB ram, Windows 11, P3D v6, and MSFS 2020 and a couple of SSD's

They sure do... And their shadows will drift along the ground and even darken your flight deck as well, it's  gorgeous!

Yes, the clouds objects are being pushed by wind patterns as loaded by the METAR data available in the area and with 80,000 meters worth of cloud shadowing turned on you get an amazing display of shadowing moving across the terrain, buildings and your own aircraft.  It is a very nice feature missing from FSX.

Sometimes just to relax, I'll sit at an airport when it's raining and turn the traffic up and just watch them come and go. The sound of the rain is calming.

I think they've only been moving since about fs2002 havnt they?

They've been moving at least since FS9 and in FSX, FS8 I don't recall.

Cloud shadows is one of the best things P3D brought us imho. They make the world come alive and look so much more real. There absolutely is no going back to a sim without cloud shadows.

Plus a BIG one, Jeroen.

Cheers, Mac
