Personally I would go Intel any day for flight sims over AMD. Minimum today of an i7 4790 4Ghz with DDR3 2400. Also, with prices where they are at a GTX 970 4GB video card. Windows 7 is a great choice.

So these specs are in your signature. Are they the specs of your current system???? Before your new build?

Don't buy AMD for flight simulation. Stick with intel. I would also buy the GTX 970 over the 750ti.

I used to be an AMD guy till I tried intel. I had an FX-8350 rig at 4.5ghz and when I switched to an intel 4790k at 4.5ghz I gained around 20fps by just switching the CPU and mobo here is a topic where I talk about my initial impressions. Basicly stay away from AMD's for FS as they are poor in single core performance and thats what counts in FS

The problem with AMD is the poor IPC , the phenom II have better IPC but not a good clocker.

 

An I5 760 is faster in FSX !!!! If you not is a AMD fun boy go for a Intel.

 

As Hardcore Overclocker i have some Golden Amd chip, FX4300 @8.0ghz and FX8320 @8.46ghz cpuz validated.

I'm about to build a mini ITX system for my daughter, based on the Intel 6600k, you'd be surprised how cheap. But it will be powerful.

I have found everything listed NEW on Ebay except for the GPU and HD for less than$250. When I put INTEL in to the picture the price tag goes up to $600+ quickly that is prohibitive right now and for the foreseeable future . I am tired of sharing the desktop with the wife and want something that is dedicated to just FS and internet connectivity,

 

I am looking for a performance boost over what my current system is. Currently my FS9 FPS are set at 30 and am smooth with Ifly 737/747 and FSDreamteam scenery with sliders to the right. My FSX experience is limited to 16FPS with default scenery with sliders in the middle.

Don't bother.  Save some more.

 

Either that, or get a Pentium G3258K and either an MSI H81-E33 or an Asus H81 Plus and a cheap aftermarket cooler (something like the Akasa Venom).  This combo will clock to 4.2ghz without trying, and will dump all over the AMD system

This - 400 bucks isn't enough to get great performance out of FSX ... MAAAYBE FS9 but doubtful. Save up 1200 bucks at least

Yep, really sorry but as we say in the UK, 400 is bugger all.

FX-6200 and 550ti user here.  You're not going to get 'orders of magnitude' gains in performance without switching to Intel.  The only way to get substantial performance gains with AMD is to dial back the eye candy.

 

However, your proposed build will give you better performance than what you've got now.

 

If you're mostly a GA flyer, stay away from resource-intensive study sims and you're OK with keeping those sliders in the middle, you'll probably be happy especially given the price of the upgrade.  If you're getting 16FPS with your current hardware I'd expect you'll probably be in the low 20's (but still diving into the teens in heavy weather or complex scenery areas) with the new build.
