Video Card Upgrade - Strix GTX 980 TI

Featured Replies

Good Morning,

I have just sold my trusty Asus GTX 780 and have been looking to upgrade to a GTX 980 TI. The card I have settled on is an  Asus GeForce Strix GTX 980Ti

Just wondering if anyone has one of these beasts and would like to comment on how it performs

Richard

From what I've read, an upgraded video card will yield better performance with X-Plane 10.

That's one of the reasons why I retired FSX. I know that when I sell my gtx 660ti 3gig card and buy a 980ti or equivalent, I will get the value I seek.

I'm looking forward to reading from those who have the card.

Just got one, but have no sim installed at the moment. Just one piece of advice, don't worry when you first start up your computer and the fans on the card don't spin up, they're not supposed to. They only turn on when the card heats up past 40*C.

Going to get v3 installed at some point and have a little fun with that, but I'm waiting on EZDok to sort itself out with both Win10 and P3Dv3. (I know it's been updated but it's still broken.)

Take it from me, an old die hard FSX enthusiast. Check out the latest version of X-Plane 10 as soon as you can. I've retired FSX and it's children FSX-SE & P3D.

Yes X Plane surprised me and now it takes first place among my flightsims.  I run a gtx 980 and it seems to do great with X Plane.

If F1 can get the GTN into XP (and realair comes too) I'd probably leave MS/ESP for good

Thanks Guys,

Just picked up the Strix,

Had a panic moment as this card is huge. I didn't think it would fit in my case (Which isn't a small case !!) Some gentle persuasion and it is in.

Just installing drivers now. Why do I feel like a 2 year old who has free reign in a candy shop lol

Try stuffing three of them in some time,,,I thought there was no way but they do fit. The newer upcoming graphic cards from Nvidia are said to be much smaller in size.

Heading towards the Alps at FL360 in the JAR A330 with Extended DSF turned on and 8X SSAA+FXAA

Crossing into France with 3.7GB VRAM

Lets see what happens with the mountainous terrain. That was a killer for my GTX780 with Extended DSF & 4X SSAA+FXAA

My old graphics card was a 4 gig Gtx 690, its still a pretty powerful card even today,  i could run X-Plane very well with no probs, (only the usually)  i only upgraded to a 980 ti because the gtx 690 was a mini Sli card which caused artifacts in the sky (flashing) with P3D.  The first thing i done was try out all my games with the new my new card,  It stomped through everything on max,   When it came to X-Plane it was no different then my old card really, decent but not amazing.  The big thing was the flashing in P3D and with the 980 ti it was gone so i was happy with that,  also a sloid 10ish Fps more, so personally it was a nice upgrade for P3D  all in all i'm happy.   If your running little Resolution (1080p)  on 1 monitor,   I don't think one would notice a substantial difference in X-Plane or P3D between a 980 and a 980 ti.

Get yourself this tool    http://www.evga.com/precision/   I run it on aggressive and my Temps always stay good
