November 1, 201510 yr I've tried installing this into FSX SE, Prepar3d v2.5, and Prepared v3, and I always immediately get an error after I enter my serial that says "error opening file for writing" and gives me Abort, Ignore, and Retry as the only three options, it does this for every file. I run the program as administrator. Its not just this plane either, the Embrair Phenom 100 I have from them and the Pilatus PC-12 do the exact same thing. The older carenado aircraft I own with the older installers have no issues.
November 1, 201510 yr Have you tried all the usual stuff? Have you Disabled your User Account Control, type uac into search bar, hit Never Notify. Do you have the correct Permission Rights on the Installer and Sim. And also hit Compatibility and Run as Administrator, Don't forget to hit Apply  Depending on your Anti virus Software you will have to completely disable it to Install or just add Exclusions for the Process and files and folders, i prefer using the latter method
November 1, 201510 yr Author Yes, I just looked into that, each sim and the installer has full permissions, and always run as administrator, and disabled UAC alerts. Still nada. Ill contact Carenado. Thanks for the replies!
November 2, 201510 yr Author Well, that ended up being no help at all, since I am unable to install into Prepar3d v2.5 either. And I never have any other programs or flight sims open when trying to install these aircraft. "Carenado Support Today at 19:37 Greetings, Be aware that while some of our aircraft works ok in FSX Steam Version they are not designed for it, several tests are being made to check functionality, from our side and steam side, and until those test are not finished is not possible for us to offer support. On the other hand, we are working on and making some compatibility tests for P3D v3. We don´t have a specific date yet, so stay tuned. About the "error opening file for writing" message, this appears when you have the file running on another program or it is already installed, so we suggest to make sure that no programs are running at that time and no files are installed. Regards, Carenado."
November 4, 201510 yr I have had similar, but not exactly identical, problems that prevented my installing the PA31 Navajo into P3Dv3 (See thread in this forum). I was advised to do all of the things that you did, but nothing worked, and finally Carenado compensated and gave me free of charge another a/c: the Seneca V; and it worked! not sure why some of their a/c installers have problems, others do not. My system specs: Intel [email protected] - 5.2 GHz, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080, 32GB DDR4 RAM, Noctua NH-D15 CPU Cooler,1TB Seagate SSD, 4TB Seagate HD, Windows 10, Asus 32 inch monitor, Saitek Yoke, Throttle Quadrant, Rudder Pedals and Trim Wheel Sims: MSFS2020 Preferred Aircraft Black Square Bonanza, and Baron, A2A Comanche, PMDG DC-6, Red Wing L1049
November 4, 201510 yr Author Its just the Pilatus PC-12, The Seneca V, and the Embrair Phenom 100 that I have these issues with. None of the 40 or so other aircraft I installed (A2A, Real Air, Aerosoft, and earlier Carenado ones) have any issues at all. And its not just it installing into P3D v3, its installing into anything. I have P3D V2.5 and FSX:SE installed and it will not do anything for those either. Its a problem with the installer itself. Ive tried just unpacking it on 5 different pc's (all running windows 10) to see if I could manually install it, but no go.
November 4, 201510 yr finally Carenado compensated and gave me free of charge another a/c: the Seneca V; and it worked! not sure why some of their a/c installers have problems, others do not. I was following your other thread, Glad you got sorted
December 14, 201510 yr Did anyone ever figure out what is going on with the Carenado installer? I am having the same problem as the original poster, just purchased the Seneca V on sale, and it gives me this same error "Error opening file for writing", \effects\fx_CARIdnPA34V.fx, only option is Abort, Retry or Ignore. I too have tried the above suggestions, have other Carenado/A2A/RealAir/PMDG/Alabeo aircraft all installed and working great. This is into P3D v3. Curious if anybody figured out what is going wrong. Thanks! Allen, flight sim lover and AA-5 Traveler owner
February 7, 201610 yr Sorry to dig up an old thread but I had this same problem and figured out a workaround. First let me say I'm running Prepar3D V3.1 on Windows 10 and have three Carenado aircraft; two of them installed without any problem (the Tomahawk and the Skymaster) but the one that gave me the error was the C172RG.The first error I got during the install said: "Error opening file for writing: \Effects\fx_CARIdnC172RG.fx" with the Abort/Retry/Ignore options. I figured out that the installer is trying to install files in the root directly of your hard drive (this despite the fact that I specified the correct install path during the installation). To fix this, what you need to do is manually create the folders in the root directly of your hard drive that the installer is trying to write files to. So for the first example I listed, I created a folder in the root directory of my C: drive called Effects (i.e., C:\Effects). After you do that, click the Retry button and the installer will write the files it needs to to that directory. You'll soon get another error for the next directory it needs to write to. Create that folder in the root directory of your hard drive, then click Retry. Continue creating the necessary folders as the errors pop up.Note that some folders are nestled, and in that instance you need to create each one of the folders listed in the path. For example, the installer tried to write the file \Sound\SoundAlabeo\openwindow_alabeo.wav. For this I had to create both the C:\Sound and the C:\Sound\SoundAlabeo directories, one after the other. After you've gotten all the way through the install, move the folders you created to your P3D folder. There were some files that it found existing identically-named files for and asked me if I wanted to overwrite or skip them (like some of the sound effects files); I compared these files with the existing files and they were identical, so I skipped them. These appear to be Carenado's reused files from other aircraft (the same "window open" sound effect for example). After I got everything copied I did a quick test flight in the C172RG and it ran perfectly. I did not detect any problems in the visual model or the performance of the simulated aircraft. The installation program only gave me the choice of P3D v1.4 and v2, but it does appear to run in v3.1 without any problems.I don't know if this will work with all of the Carenado aircraft that are supposedly Prepar3d compatible but won't install, but since the error messages referenced above are identical to what I was getting I think it's likely you can get them installed the same way.

I was having the same problem, contacted Carenado support, and they simply said they were in the process of upgrading their aircraft for compatibility to v3, and had no estimated completion date. Then I saw your post and thought I would give it a try. It seemed to work, somewhat. I was able to get the installation to complete using your work-around. The Seneca V aircraft does appear in the list of available aircraft now, and when I select it, it does start to come up. However, it ends up being mostly transparent. The individual instruments do appear, as do the yokes, engine nacelles, and props. But the rest of the aircraft appears transparent. Any thoughts?
May 5, 201610 yr I really like this plane but after a full reinstall of my PC the same problem. I left FSX and went to FSX-SE. This is the only plane that will not install...same write error. I will try your workaround tomorrow. Neal Howard
May 16, 201610 yr I found a little tip for install Seneca V (Probably you already know it).During install Keep clear selecton of sim type, just define install folder. BUT, whatever path to install you define, anyway install will be performed into folder C:\Program Files (x86)\Carenado Installer. At the end installer warning about it can not modify FSX\DLL.XML, i've just cancel this popup. After complete installation just copy whole content from folder C:\Program Files (x86)\Carenado Installer into YOUR SIM root folder. I don't know how perfect works all aircraft systems after that installation, but base function is ok.P.S. Sorry for my English
July 27, 20169 yr Pretty poor from Carenado. I've just purchased the PA44 Seminole and have the same issue. Will give the suggestions a go this evening and report back.
October 12, 20169 yr Just discovered this thread...thanks so much for the solution - it worked for the Alabeo Saratoga! Scott
