October 8, 200520 yr Personally I don't like the looks of it (panel wise that is), I was sort of hoping it was the screenshots but from the coloring to the readouts on the displays they look out dated IMO, in fact if someone said this was developed 2 years ago I would have believed them from what I see. Certainly in this day and age of developement we should expect high quality displays for payware. This is only my opinion from these shots, perhaps some closer up shots will help to confirm or not. A 777 is a very complex airliner to model system wise, I own United manuals for the 200 series and would be very suprised from PSS if they model 50% of the actual systems on this bird. EDIT: Zooming in looks MUCH better. Only thing which is an easy fix would be the fonts. The panel is sharp and clear so I suppose it's a personal taste thing for such a "clean" looking panel. October 8, 200520 yr Actually it's a "Flight Simulator", which has advanced far away from just an aircraft systems simulator. If that's really the case, then place your texture sliders to 0, and terrain, then turn off ATC and weather. Enjoy flying your flightdeck through an empty space. FS has evolved into an "almost everything involved with flight" simulator, and some people, including myself, LOVE to gaze at an expertly detailed model. Doesn't make us wrong or fetishists, friend. :)-Jeremy BurchThe Ozark DogfighterHappy Flying!Pilot-The friction locks are causing the throttle levers to stick.Mechanic- Umm, that's what they're there for...
October 8, 200520 yr Agree! The triple seven is what got me interested in flight sims to begin with. I hardly fly anything that large anymore, but still, I'm slightly dissapointed. Melvin's bird is way above this one in visuals, with it's only let-down being the lack of VC. And since I'm starting to hug VC-equipped models now, the 777 get's pushed further back. I was extremely interested in the PSS 777, but not if it looks like this. Would I fly it, even though the model wasn't as good as MelJet's bird?YESBut I wouldn't PAY for it, regardless.to PSS: Improve it, please. We likey accuracy. Make it so!-Jeremy BurchThe Ozark DogfighterHappy Flying!Pilot-The friction locks are causing the throttle levers to stick.Mechanic- Umm, that's what they're there for...
October 8, 200520 yr Actually, it's pretty hard to fly an airplane, especially an airliner, from the outside. External views, flushing toliets, tray tables, and the like are useless to me, serve no purpose, and bloat the cost and the size of the add-on. Give me an accurate flight model, an accurate set of instruments in an accurate panel and VC, and that's all I need. To me, it's a flight simulator, not a "look at the outside of an airplane" simulator. If the systems are good, it's worth at least a look when released.
October 8, 200520 yr Honest to goodness ... what a place this has become. If I were on trial for my life in US courtroom, and had some of you people on a jury ... I would be pronounced guilty based on prejudgement and NO evidence ... good grief.Wait til the software is released ... then make your judgements, and I'm damned sure there will be tons of them at that time.Of course, having said all that, people are certainly entitled to their opinions however premature.PSS has always been a good software supplier IMHO ... and I have spent untold hours of flying in the old days with their previous 744 and 777 and still use the Airbuses (if that is a word). And YES this IS a systems simulator to many many people ... me for one, and I know many of you care about the hi-fidelity systems simulations rather than external views, toilets, etc. Why would LDS, Feel-There, Dreamfleet, F1, PMDG, Ralph's Panel Shop, Stellan Hilmersby, Lago, MDMax and maybe others that I have missed (all the little GA and bizjets I guess) spend all the time making detailed systems simulation of people didn't want it or BUY IT ... and Eric, why would you spend so much time making very well done, in fact excellent models if this were only a game?So wait a bit and see what actually comes out .. I have been waiting for a good 777 for some time now and have great hopes for this one.Prejudgement is not a good thing, especially based upon low quality jpgs ... but o well...AND ... no one is telling you you HAVE to buy it..Cheers,Paul BenoitKSAN
October 8, 200520 yr Your opinions don't make you wrong. My opinions don't make me wrong. So the logic would be to make it possible to choose which type of aircraft you wanted. Want it boring outside and awesome VC? Buy that one. Awesome externals with no VC, panel aliased to default? Buy that one. Model with EVERYTHING, including the lav sink? Buy that one.If they're promising to deliver "The Very Best in Commercial add-ons for the flight simulation community.", then they need to step up this jet. Granted it's still very early, so I'm not going to make my final decision yet.-Jeremy BurchThe Ozark DogfighterHappy Flying!Pilot-The friction locks are causing the throttle levers to stick.Mechanic- Umm, that's what they're there for...
October 8, 200520 yr Man, I have been looking forward to the 777 since the release of FS9...how many years ago? Now that PSS is at the verge of releasing the "quiet-as-kept" B777 and have released screenshots I must say...Judging by the screenshots, and screenshots only, I must say I am underwhelmed. The outside visual model, well, wow...their FS2000/2002 model looked far better (judging my the screenshots). The 3D pit, which I insist on - never EVER fly in the 2D pit, looks visually bleak. Now, with that said, I would assume that it is fully functional and that will make up for the lack of photorealistic texture that tend to bring the VC to "life".Still, I am an extremely visual person who is not turned on by buttons and knobs only. I am a total package type of guy. I want to enjoy the outside when I am doing my walk around, I want to enjoy the cockpit when I am in it and the TOTAL package is what does it for me. That said, if all you care about are buttons then good for you...let the rest of us who want great visuals too (and have the rig to run it) state our pleasure. Unfortunately, from the screenshots...which I am assuming PSS released to generate excitement, I am not excited. At this point, I think as impulsive as I am and proud owner of just about ever high fidelity airliner ever released for MSFS, I'm gonna wait and see what Feelthere offers and chose between the two.Regards,Mike T.
October 8, 200520 yr Great hopes is not necessarily good either... but oh well...And I've seen some severe thrashing on lots of forums, this is NOT one of them.Granted, some here have gone overboard, but not this one surely. My take on the screenshots? There's nothing to see in them we haven't seen BETTER of before. Granted, it's early. BUT, they either hope we'll all be Oooohing and Ahhhhing the screenies and want to rush out and but it, OR they are showing us, hey, it's ALPHA and already looks like this, just wait till you see it when it's released! If the latter is the case, then I'm all set to order it when it's done, if indeed it does blow my socks off. But if it's the former, according to how this thread is going, not such good news. And not one of us stated we felt we had to buy it. :D-Jeremy BurchThe Ozark DogfighterHappy Flying!Pilot-The friction locks are causing the throttle levers to stick.Mechanic- Umm, that's what they're there for...
October 8, 200520 yr Well Paul:"If I were on trial for my life in US courtroom, and had some of you people on a jury ... I would be pronounced guilty based on prejudgement"If you were on trial and I had pictures of you "apparently" breaking the law, then you would indeed be pronounced guilty! It is not prejudgement when you have pictures of something..."a picuture is worth a thousand words" right? So, the available screenshots make the Phoenix 777, look very unflattering in both the visual model and the VC. This is not based on prejudgement or rumor, but by the visuals that Phoenix themselves released for public consumption.Regards,Mike T.
October 8, 200520 yr Drac, you old bag. You wouldn't know what to do with a 787 dreamliner if it bit you on your wrinkled bum!!!! :-lol I think I told you already to stick with something from your generation...like the Wright Flyer! :-lolI'll call ya later so we can go over how to use the telephone again.CYA my friend,Mike
October 8, 200520 yr Like I said ... no one forces anyone by buy anythingNot worth arguing with naysayers ... I have no clue why I even try!!!O well,Happy SaturdayPaul BenoitKSAN
October 8, 200520 yr Paul:Does stating one's opinion make one a naysayer when the opinion is in the negative and differs from yours? If I were lauding the merits of the PSS screenshots would that be better for you?Come on man, what makes us different makes us great. If you think the PSS shots are without reproach then good for you, but why think you should be on a cruisade to switch the opinions of those with differing opinons?Regards,Mike T
October 8, 200520 yr It maybe true that none of us are forced to buy it, but a lot of us were looking forward to this and it has so far been dissapointing. Some of you guys are castrating us for "pre-judging". My eyes don't lie. The external model looks bad. If it looked great and everyone said so, would you still dislike people for "pre-judging"? Yes the external model isn' the most important part but PMDG, Dreamfleet, and others have managed to create fantastic overall packages with great external modelling and amazing systems modelling. Is it so wrong to expect that bar to be met by one of the pioneers of complex add-ons like PSS? Especially from PSS who will probably charge a bit of coin for each livery, I expected more. I'll wait for the reviews to decide whether I buy this one.
