Avsim's low PSS 777 review score...

Featured Replies

Considering SSTsim has the best Concord on the market yet Avsim gave PSS a 5 star review leaves me very surprised at the low score for the 777.For PSS the 777 was the best add-on they

If you read the rules of the rating system you'll see that 5 stars are reserved for quantum leaps in development. The 777 is none.

What did the Concord have that was so special???Oh, I forgot the it was the first ever FS2k4 release from a major developer that didn't have a fully functioning VC...The 777 brings many new ideas to the table:1. In sim fuel manager (done in a way no other developer has done)2. Weather Radar (done only by one other developer at the time but the PSS version doen't bring Framerates to a crawl)3. Ram Air Turbine Simulation (with the visual unit functioning on the external model)4. The whole 'Performance and Setup Panel' is a very good and new idea in FS.5. For the type of simulation this is, we have a very fluid Virtual Cockpit that is only rivaled by PMDG's 744 and Level-D's 767 in performance. So many can't figure this concept out...I really don't see how anyone could feel the Concord tops the 777... :-hmmm

3.5 Stars = Positive Tweaking of Today's State-of-the-ArtWhich seems very fair to me reading the PSS support forum.

They do have a weather radar, however, it is not accurate to real world standards. Again, I also feel the review is right on according to the standars that are set forth for commercial addon reviews.

O.K. well help me understand what's so special about the PSS Concord versus the SSTsim offering???I'm comparing what the score Concord got versus the 777. There's allot of complaints on the PSS Concord forum as well so that's a mute point. I've given examples of the PSS 777's advancments above and I shouldn't have to comment on how outstanding the SSTsim offering is. I don't have the PSS plane but:>The 777 brings many new ideas to the table:>>1. In sim fuel manager (done in a way no other developer has>done)The 747 has had an in-sim manager since release.>2. Weather Radar (done only by one other developer at the time>but the PSS version doen't bring Framerates to a crawl)It's the same one that's in the FeelThere I believe... Neither company actually developed it.>3. Ram Air Turbine Simulation (with the visual unit>functioning on the external model)The original 767PIC and LDS both have this.>4. The whole 'Performance and Setup Panel' is a very good and>new idea in FS.Not sure what you mean, but almost every plane I have has something for tuning the CRT/LCD refresh etc...

I believe the point we are all missng is that fact that Avsim and Avsim alone set the stadards for the ratings and judge accordingly. While I might not agree with their rating system it certainly gives users an idea of what to expect and is fair. We of course are free to rate any add-on by our own standards and to publish these for all to read. In the end I think we should look to the tract record of developers, the quality of their products and let them speak for themselves. PSS are good developers, I bought their bus and was happy with it for the time. I have not purchased the 777 but it looks like a nice aircraft.[h4]Randy J. Hello Ryan,Pictured below is the 'Performance and Setup Panel'. This panel is built right on the 2D panel which gives you allot of options not requireing you to go into FS's main menu dropdown or an external setup utility. You would have to own the add-on to know about this feature. As far as I know no other add-on has something like this, surely not the PMDG 744. It would seem this would qualify as something new and innovative don't you think???http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/135943.jpg

Or, could it be that the Concorde rating is too high? :-) I don't own the 777 but I haven't seen or read about anything yet that puts it in the exceptional category. Doug

I think its time Avsim got rid of the 5 star system and went to a report card system where they rate 10 key features based on a set of criteria....a crude example might be:Flight DynamicsA- Matches real world numbersBC - Problems in key areas of flght (takeoff, landing, cruise)D - E - Not even closeVCA - Complete, Frame Rate Friendly, All buttons clickableBC - Some clickable buttonsD - E - Not IncludedI think this type of system would give people a better idea of where things stack up.

avsim reviews have the worst consistency ever. They can never make up their minds whether they want to actually review something yet give it a bad score, or just repost a press release and give it 4 or 5 stars.Captain Sim gets a 2 part review so they can cover up the bugs and still get people a positive first part so they go out and buy it (granted they did fix most of the problems but thats not the point...)Flight Scenery gets an inadequate review of their ground breaking and amazing Rhode Island scenery. What next? You can only guess

How about just buy from those who offer your money back if not satisfied. Print the review out and use it in your bird cage.
