Just did a flight in the Zibo 2.83 with FMOD, KSAN - KLAX, US Ortho, Mister X Airports and 8 default 737 as AI aircraft. It was extremely smooth, the "ortho stutter" (which would appear 3-4 times on that route and last for 5-10sec) is completely gone. Also no microstutters at all. Solid RC!

Fantatsic!  Good to read. Still need to download it.  It is taking hours for the FMOD to create a zip file...hours...:(

You are the man!  Thank you so very much for your head's-up Colonel, for the 737-800...just waiting for the zip file to be built....and downloaded. I am sitting at a 1/16 of an inch yet to close on the download circle..but seems to be no movement....

Belay that...download now happening....thanks!

That's actually very encouraging.

I can not update, it seems that you have problems on update server.

I'd try again. I also noted that it installed the default 7370-800, after I had deleted it, for use of the FMOD.

I think though...that you can have both installed, and do an a/b comparison, if you want...or just delete it again, in total.

I haven't flown the new update yet...and am finishing up on one Ortho4XP tile yet to go.  After that...you betcha!

Is this a beta?  I thought RC meant ready for everyone.   I tried to update, but it didn't seem to do anything.

You most likely need to have the include Beta box checked off...for RC is still a beta of sorts, but a Release Candidate...meaning zeroing in....:)

Does this also include the performance improvements (for water, traffic, and core usage) that Ben said were coming in 11.02 back at the end of may?

Yes, but that stuff is already in the previous beta that's been out.

I hadn't downloaded the previous beta, so it's all new to me.

RC stands for Release Candidate. So, it's the potential version which will be released to everyone if nothing bad shows up

Did Ksan Klas yesterday in rotate MD80, ortho @17 Butter-smooth., is absolutely outstanding. I'd say 200% performance gain, no major stutters. Wonderful job.

I'll just wait, then.  Thanks.

You don't WANT to wait...as the Colonel stated, it totally removed any pause, and in fact, no more waiting at the out-set, for the FPS to climb after the ortho loading in.  They must have put it on another thread...

With that Shadow Boost and FPS reclaim, as well as my other tweak on the other thread, I am now getting 48-55 FPS, over my zl17/19/2 ortho, using this update...  Mind blowing....

OK, I am giving for granted that you are all measuring your performance using addons and a terrain you already know from previous flights with the official version, correct?

Newbie question (I have been using X-Plane for less than one month now): can I be sure that replying No to any overwrite prompt I will keep my current configuration and Custom Scenery structure unchanged?
Which is the safest way to proceed when you install an update in XP11?

Thanks

What exactly does it try to overwrite? Usually, custom scenery should be left untouched by any update except if an addon has changed default files in XP11. The update will then try to restore the default files of course. I've only had this with MisterX's Airport Environment HD addon, which replaces some default textures. Replying "no" to the overwrite prompt would be safe in that case, I guess.

To be honest, I did not even try any update yet. That was just a 'preemptive question' as this is my first update in XP.
Anyway, @longrangecruise, yes, I always backup my sims. I was sure this rule of thumb would also apply to XP :-)

Nothing will be deleted , it only updates the core system and the default "scenery" in the customs scenery folder. e.g.   if you overwrite the clouds or the sky bitmaps it will prompt you if you want to download the default ones , yes getting Betas can cause issues with plugins but at least where scenery is concerned i never had any problems.

update it , and if you already have a backup then you are fine.
