So, it's the potential version which will be released to everyone if nothing bad shows up Chock 1.1: "The only thing that whines louder than a jet engine is a flight simmer."
June 22, 20178 yr Did Ksan Klas yesterday in rotate MD80, ortho @17 Butter-smooth., is absolutely outstanding. I'd say 200% performance gain, no major stutters. Wonderful job.

You don't WANT to wait...as the Colonel stated, it totally removed any pause, and in fact, no more waiting at the out-set, for the FPS to climb after the ortho loading in. They must have put it on another thread... With that Shadow Boost and FPS reclaim, as well as my other tweak on the other thread, I am now getting 48-55 FPS, over my zl17/19/2 ortho, using this update... Mind blowing....
June 22, 20178 yr OK, I am giving for granted that you are all measuring your performance using addons and a terrain you already know from previous flights with the official version, correct? Newbie question (I have been using X-Plane for less than one month now): can I be sure that replying No to any overwrite prompt I will keep my current configuration and Custom Scenery structure unchanged? Which is the safest way to proceed when you install an update in XP11? Thanks

What exactly does it try to overwrite? Usually, custom scenery should be left untouched by any update except if an addon has changed default files in XP11. The update will then try to restore the default files of course. I've only had this with MisterX's Airport Environment HD addon, which replaces some default textures. Replying "no" to the overwrite prompt would be safe in that case, I guess.

To be honest, I did not even try any update yet. That was just a 'preemptive question' as this is my first update in XP. Anyway, @longrangecruise, yes, I always backup my sims. I was sure this rule of thumb would also apply to XP :-)

June 22, 20178 yr Agreed, nice improvements loading orthos, with nice overall improvements, outstanding update indeed! June 23, 20178 yr You guys with Ortho - are you using it from a SSD or HDD? My Ortho4xp stuff is all symlinked from my A: which is my slower HDD. XP itself runs from my SSD. It would be nice to have the ortho on my SSD but size constraints.... As for me - I'm still getting a bit of a stutter, but it's shorter duration than before, and the micro stutters are higher fps than before. Previously I'd get about a 10 sec pause and or huge stutter, followed by about 1 min for 5-7 fps while the scenery loads, then fine. Now I get about a 5 second pause, followed by 20 sec of 15-20 fps stutters. So it's better. It may be that I only 8GB of ram and 4 of vram. Also I noticed my 2500K is working harder - more cores are being used and at higher percentages. Oh, I also used Socal area for testing. Departed Ry 27 at KRAL and did 250 KIAS on a 250 heading towards KSNA. There's a pronounced scenery load about 4 min into the flight where the ZL16 ortho loads the new tile. | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
June 23, 20178 yr I have it on a HDD. Sesquatchtoo has it on MyBooks. It would quickly overrun any SSD that is affordable.

For running XP11 with orthos, you're running a low end system, so stutters are to be expected and I don't think it's the slow HDD or X-Plane code to blame. To give you a perspective, in the scenario you describe, I have 12GB RAM and 10GB VRAM in use by X-Plane, however no stutters while the orthos stream from an external USB3 drive. Memory and bandwidth is crucial when running orthos, it's logical you will face issues here with 8GB RAM and 4GB VRAM (although you can make sure to not overload the latter). - Currently giving X-Plane 12.10 a spin on Shadow PC. 10 years with X-Plane now, since 10.20
