Need help : weird fps loss after enabling AI traffic

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I need all your experiences to help me with this issue.

Up to 2 weeks ago I never had any issues with P3D. Two weeks ago I lost my network connection. The server could see itself and the client. The client could only see the server. It took me 2 days and a System Restore to solve it. Then my server started acting the same. Solution : system restore.

Today I was checking for the first in several months the framerate as I found that moving AI aircraft were stuttering. I have locked framerate to 20 ( triple view ) and it was always smooth enough.  If you look ate my vids , link below in my signature,  you can see that. The moment I enabled PSXseeconTraffic all AI aircraft ( MT ) appeared and the Live ones where taxxiing, landing, taking off. However, within 2-3 minutes I saw the framerate dropping till 11-12...

So I disabled PSXseeconTraffic , but the low framerate remained ! Refresh scenery did nothing. Only shuttiong down P3D and restarting it helped and returned the framerate. Also Reloading the Saved flight returned the framerate. I have deleted the cfg file. No difference.

If I use Unlimited I am getting 29-31 fps . Enabling the Live Traffic makes it drop to 23-24, which is good as 17-25 Live Aircraft and 60 parked aircraft are being added.  However after 1 minute the framerate starts to drop slowly and after a few minutes I am left with 13-14 ( Unlimited ).  Shutting down PSXseeconTraffic  ; the low framerate remaions till reloading the Saved flight or shutting down/ restarting P3D.

PSXseeconTraffic is installed on a client and uses Simconnect . As I have P3Dv4 Booster Live 2018 I can change FTFF value in realtime. If I use 0.4 my framerat even drops below 10. I also un-and reinstalled the Nvidia driver ( clean install ). It is like the server looses framerate because some kind of memory leak...

All your suggestions are welcome...

My testcase is : FT EHAM

Thanks in advance.

Gerard

There seems to be a lot of variables in your situation.  how does P3D run if you do not have your client computer connected to it, so just stand alone.  Can you get consistent rates and simulation for an extended period of time?  We should probably eliminate as many variables as possible and then add things back in one at a time, do a trial flight, and then go from there.  I've found that using a client PC significantly adds to the complexity of troubleshooting problems.

Without AI Traffic the framerate remains stable.

My cliënt has ASP4 + ASCA + TealTraffic + PSXseeconTraffic and  several Prosim modules running

The server has P4Dv4 + Prosim modules + OpusFSI ( Buttkicker ) + SIOC + FSPS 3D Cockpit Sounds running

Without using the AI aircraft no issues with the framerate from start to finish..

A Fs friend of mine , also having a triple view setup , did some tests.

He experienced the same massive framerate drop.

I used Live Traffic 9.16 and 9.18 , while he was still using 9.2.

This starting to give me the feeling that it might have something to do with p3d V4.1 . The last time I checked was with V4.0 and then using Live Traffic cost only 2 fps..

Hi Gerard,

when this happens again, can you go to your menu settings, then general. don't make any changes, just get out of it and see if your FPS goes back to normal. I am having the same issue but only with PMDG aircraft. might be worth a try. I am also using p3dv4.1

Thanks for the idea !

Someone else advised me to try other  AI aircraft as MT aircraft seemed to be very taxing on the system since V4/4.1...

I need to find some V4 compatible freeware models to try and see If it makes any difference. 737 / 777 / 747 / 310 / 319 / 320 / 321 / 330 / 340 to start with.

Who knows a good freeware set ?

Hello Gerard

I'm not good with Traffic or Client PC's,  but have you tried all the little things first ?  Like deleting your Shaders folder and the SceneryIndexes_x64 folder and letting Prepar3D generated these again

Hallo Gerard,

FAIB and FSPXAI are the best you can get for P3Dv4.1.

However it takes a lot of time to gather and install every single livery. An alternative would be to install the liveries of UT "live". They seem to be P3Dv4 compatible.

But I do not think your current liveries are part of your problem. If they would cost a lot of processing time one would see that right from the start and not after 11-15 minutes...

Hi Nico,

The first 30 seconds the framerate is ok , then it starts to decline slowly till after 10 minutes I end up with 11-12.

As another Fs user experiences the same with also a triple view setup , the same scenery and also MT aircraft it cannot be my Windows setup.

regards, Gerard

I don’t have MT or UT live, I only have experience with custom AI and honestly, I rarely get frame drops. I run VOXATC at 70% traffic and every gate is packed with AI and I don’t drop below 20 FPS. I run a two monitor setup so slightly different than yours, which may also be a factor. I use FSAIB models and they are very FPS friendly. I haven’t yet to purchase any fspxai models and don’t really want to. When building custom AI, once you have all the models you need, it is very simple to upgrade. AIG is pretty much the place I live when updating traffic. They have plenty of painters and traffic gurus over there that have just about everytbing you could imagine. They also have compiled a great list of v4 compatible aircraft and links to just about everything. It sucks that you are having this issue. Maybe one day, we will have a sim that basically builds traffic for us that is realistic, but for now, I think custom is the best alternative.

Just tried with EHAM parked percentage set to 15% instead of the default 35%. It takes abouty half a minute longer , then the framerate starts to decline till again 11-12. So the same as with parked percentae set to 35% but a slower decline.

I deleted the Shader folder and the Scenery Indexes 64 folder, but unfortunatley no difference. Also I remebered using AI Light Reborn and uninstalled it. Perhaps the Dyn Lights from all AI aircraft was too much. No difference too.

Buying UTL just for the aircraft without knowing if this will help is not the smartest way . And a small part of their aircraft are also older MT models.  Justflight hasn't released their package yet.

I will send you my FAIB collection of P3Dv4.1 compatible Boeing's and Airbusses, including Neo, (2400) this weekend...

Btw did you try to remove the tool that dynamically changes P3D settings that you were talking about lately?
